Another good book by Jane Casey. Have these been made into film or even better a TV series? They really should. Maeve and Josh would make wonderful characters who everyone would be talking about. although this is one in a series, the book works well as a stand alone. A good interesting plot and terrific characters.

Jane Casey has done it again! I love this series as Maeve is one of my favourite characters in a series l Every book she writes gets better and better and this book is a prime example. It is a fast paced and gripping book and one that will demand your attention. FIVE STARS!!!

Another great read from Jane Casey continuing with the lives of Maeve and Josh. A different format for them as they are working undercover with all the trials and tribulations that go with that. Two separate plots are on the go to keep your mind alert.

My first Jane Casey book and I was not disappointed.
A great storyline and I really enjoyed learning about the characters and their relationships as I turned the pages. It was never clear who had committed the crime(s) until the end of the book, as so many of the characters could have been involved. I feel that there was much more of the goings on in The Close that could have filled another book!
I look forward to reading more of Jane Casey's books.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced reader copy in return for an honest review of this book.

Many thanx to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this book.

I have never read any of Jane Casey prior to this book. My interest was held from page 1 and it was very interesting reading about all the many characters and their interaction with their neighbours. Each one had some hidden characteristic which led the reader to suspect most of them of a crime! Lots of red herrings and a really good book. The only downfall of this book was the rather sudden ending, leaving the reader with a few unanswered questions
Enjoyed this book, none the less.

I’ve read a few of the Maeve Kerrigan books and I do rate Jane Casey as an author. This was a strange one as it’s not your usual "whodunnit". Maeve and Josh Derwent go to live in Jellicoe Close as house/dog sitters because of the strange disappearance of vulnerable young men.

There is a lot on the sexual tension between Maeve and Josh, but this seems valid when you’re actually living together and having to pretend to be a couple. There is also another murder which Maeve had been working on and it blends into the larger narrative.

The pacing is good, the characters in the Close are different enough that you form a clear picture and it’s obvious that there’s more going on than just the case Maeve and Josh were sent to solve.

An enjoyable read with a lot going on and I’ll continue to look out for DS Kerrigan books.

I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley

This is book 10 in the Maeve Kerrigan book series but can definitely be read as a standalone. I love DS Maeve Kerrigan and DI Josh Derwent as characters but also their relationship as colleagues. It’s a great storyline if a little slower paced than I’d like but maybe that’s the idea to build the suspense. There are 2-3 different storylines running but really well written and it’s very clear which one is which. There is a great mix of characters some likeable and some not and Casey writes the storyline in such a way that you are suspicious of everyone. Another great read from Jane Casey.

Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for the opportunity to read #TheClose

This one is definitely a five star review from me. It had everything going for it. There are multiple plot lines ongoing, while all the while the main characters, Maeve and Josh are suffering under a freakish heatwave undercover. There is a fair share of possible suspects and a big dollop of sexual chemistry. I loved it.

Thank you to the author, the publishers and Netgalley for the chance to read and review.

What a great read. Had a bit of everything. The main characters were interesting and loved the way they worked so well together. Was a little bit disappointed with the ending but didn’t ruin the book for me

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to review the book!
I have advertised The Close to my work internal project monthly newsletter, targeting 300+ employees.

The plot is not disappointing, not a single bad word could be said, the story is brilliant, keeps on edge till the end, I was completely hooked to get to know what happens next. I love the main characters and their story, oh, my! What I really like, is that there is no retelling what happened in the previous parts much, I enjoy the author has kept the same style for writing as it has been throughout the series! Its a book, that make me miss and long to read what will happen next. Its a total 5 star read! It's fast reading one! One of my favourites.

What happens here? It's a crime scene within the crime scene. It touches many important topics of women vulnerability, how one may cope having had trauma, being a warrior, it's hard to let the feelings go through and be vulnerable, how we keep on thinking we are fine when we are not, how many woman across are affected by narcissist's and those psychopaths around us within reach, How ideal and social pressure, pity, jealousy can be blind to what others are scarifying in their lives and how much it matters when humans can connect and feel united. It is a story of friendships, neighbourhood, small town behaviours, relationships and how much some people mean to us and what it takes from us...

I found this book a bit slow for me and with a lot of different characters to get to know & remember.......however saying that I persevered with the book, and read to the end.

Thank you to Netgalley, Harper Collins and Jane Casey for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I was absolutely hooked - this is so intense, it's unreal. It is dark and utterly gripping.
There's no way you can put this down, it needs to be read all in one.

Put your phone on silent. Check into a hotel room, ditch your family. And curl up for this book! I quickly became obsessed - was not pleasant to those interrupting me.
Fast paced, love the writing. And the characters - can't wait for the next!
A surgeon's neighbor finds him in his car, parked in the hospital lot. Murdered. His husband has a tight alibi.
Jane wonders how they could stand the noise next door - young children.
Forced to go undercover, gah the sexual tension. Even in just he office is INTENSE.
Great addition to this series!

I am a big fan of Jane Casey and was not disappointed.
We are back with our favourite Maeve Kerrigan.
I have lived in a close but it was nothing like this!!

A lot of the characters are really creepy, like they are hiding something.
It is definitely one of my favourite books of Jane Caseys.
It has twists and turns and the story is intriguing enough to keep the reader involved.
I loved it.

I haven’t read all the books in this series but have really enjoyed the Jane Casey books that I have read.
This was another great read. Loved the storyline of undercover police officers trying to become part of a small neighbourhood in order to investigate a potential link between a local house and the death of a vulnerable young man who stayed there previously.
At the same time Maeve is trying to solve the murder of a doctor found dead in his car at a hospital back at home.
Not all the neighbours turn out to be friendly and several are definitely dubious characters.
Due to not reading all the previous books in the series I felt I didn’t fully grasp the situation relationship-wise between Maeve and DI Josh Derwent and the will they/won’t they thing they have going on. Guess I’ll just have to start at the beginning to work that one out.
Lots of twists and turns along the way culminating with solving both death cases.
Clever twist at the end just when the reader thought it was all over.
Look forward to more from Jane Casey.

A long-time fan of the Maeve Kerrigan series by Jane Casey, I was very excited to step back into Kerrigan's world (and of course Derwent's too...). This has all of the elements of Casey's earlier novels - a puzzling murder, professional politics, drama and, of course, the ever-evolving friend/relationships. "The Close" is especially focused on the personal elements, and it works brilliantly at this point in the series.

Kerrigan and Derwent are tasked with going undercover as a couple in a seemingly idyllic neighbourhood, but peel back the veneer of normalcy and you'll discover a darker side, one that appears to harbour unsavory characters who stop at nothing to maintain their shady activities. As they navigate the perilous labyrinth of secrets and lies, Maeve and Josh find themselves caught in a web of deceit and danger, unsure whom to trust and haunted by their own demons. Plus the continuing tension of line between duty and desire. The plot thickens with each page turn, unveiling twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

I'm already looking forward to the next in the series!
