This is a good read.
Ally is a CSI and worked with the major investigations team until she refused to lie in court for a lead Detective. She is then shunned by his colleagues and given all the tedious jobs away from major crimes.
She’s surprised when she’s asked to attend a murder and examine the scene. She feels good to be back dealing with something meaningful but when her findings go against the lead Detective, she feels pushed aside again.
Ally has a teenage daughter who constantly tells her she works too much and she seeks attention elsewhere.
When her daughter is found badly beaten and close to death, Ally is determined to find the attacker.
We also have chapters from the person carrying out the murders and attacks which I found a little distracting from the main story.
Overall this is a good read that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to HQ and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

This is a debut offering from this author, and it was excellent. We meet Ally, who is a crime scene investigator, and a single parent to her teenage daughter, Megan. Ally is a frowned upon colleague as she shopped a detective for falsifying evidence. Now, she is getting all the rubbish jobs. But she doesn’t let that stop her fighting for justice. One morning, she is called to a murder. The murder looks clear cut, but Ally knows somethings isn’t right. She is forced back on her opinions because of her previous shopping of the detective. But then crime starts to get worse, and Ally ends up on a one woman mission to catch the criminal, even if it means she goes to prison herself.

This was a great read. I really liked Ally. She was brave, and tenacious, and she knew that she couldn’t let justice pass her by. The writing was great, and flowed really well. The book drew me in and I read this in two sittings. I look forward to more work by this author, I’d also like to see what Ally gets up to next, as it was a breath of fresh air to read from the perspective of a CSI rather than a police officer for a change.

This started out brilliantly, it was very well-written and the blurb really appealed to me. Unfortunately, we discover the identity of the protagonist very early on and that just wasn’t for me. I like to puzzle my way through the twists and turns right through to the end.

However, it’s still an excellent book and I’d highly recommend it. Just not for me, sorry.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Books for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.

Thank you to #NetGalley for my advance copy of #BreakneckPoint by #TOrrMunro

Ally Dymond is a crime scene investigator with a conscience, banished to a rural patch after giving evidence that leads to corrupt police officers being jailed. When a murder is committed Ally thinks the detective in charge has got it wrong but no one listens to the sneak.
They should !!! I was hooked and I wasn’t disappointed.
When Ally’s own daughter is attacked she will stop at nothing to get justice.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

To be honest I have not enjoyed this book. I find it quite gross in places and that does not make for enjoyable reading.
This was not for me.

I’d like to thank HQ and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Breakneck Point’ written by T Orr Munro in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

After exposing corruption in the Major Investigations Unit, Crime Scene Manager Ally Dymond has been redeployed to North Devon where she’s sent to all the cases of petty crime, and even those where no crime has been committed. When the body of a woman is found at the end of the pier Ally thinks it’s suspicious but DI Holt, the officer in charge, disagrees. Then a woman’s body is found in a house fire and Ally suspects foul play, but again her opinion is disregarded. It’s only when the killer makes it personal that Ally’s forced to take matters into her own hands.

‘Breakneck Point’ is an exciting and totally gripping thriller written from two viewpoints, Ally Dymond’s and that of the killer. It’s been brilliantly written with a cleverly thought-out plot and breath-taking twists and turns, and although we’re told the identity of the killer from early on this knowledge successfully adds to the tension that’s building up. This thriller is amazing and with the perfectly described and believable characters it’s kept me enthralled from page one, unable to put it down until I’ve reached the thrilling and completely unexpected ending. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this novel, the first I’ve read by this author, and I have my fingers crossed that it’s just the first of a fantastic new series.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this exciting book

a csi down in devon..whats not to like in my neck of the woods....

allie is the disgraced csi that nobody wants to work with, her only crime was telling the truth and because of this a perp gets off and a police officer goes to prison...

as the police pull rank on her sending her on wild goose chases a murder is committed...but nobody wants to believe what she has to say....

you get to know who the perp is fairly early on in this story and its a race against time for ally to somehow find the evidence to point it in the right direction

my only bug bear with this one was the ending was hoping for a better outcome but on the whole the book kept me riveted and i couldnt put it down

looking forward to hopefully the next book in this series, love a good csi book

For a debut crime novel, this one really hits the spot. Written from the point of view of a female CSI struggling to convince the investigating officers that they are on the wrong track. Ally Dymond has been removed from major crimes after refusing to testify in court to evidence that she knew was planted resulting in a DI being jailed and several officers being disciplined.
Called to investigate a crime scene she does not believe the evidence which leads to the arrest of a man she believes to be innocent leading to further conflict. The plot thickens when her own daughter is involved in a further incident. Her previously held position, that everything should be done by the book, is tested to breaking point. The question of how far it is acceptable to go to ensure that justice is served and how far would you go to protect your own child is raised.
If this is to be the start of a series I will certainly be buying more from this author.

I found this an unusual book as the murderer was announced very early on and so the book was about the CSI Ally Dymond and her pursuits to find out the truth.. I thought that Ally was a great character wo showed how difficult it can be for working mothers to be there for teenagers who want priority. This was a book that gripped me from the start, qould Ally catch the murferer before her did any more, despite n0-0ne belieing her gut feelings.
A fewr book for deving into crime detection and I look forward to a follow-up.

CSI Ally Drummond was pushed to the side and down the ladder after she refused to conform to a colleague's testimony in court. No one trusts her - not her capabilities or her knowledge but her loyalty-but now they need her because a body's been found in her sleepy new post. Ally finds evidence that once again doesn't fit with the theory of the case and then there's another murder. Ally's daughter Megan becomes a target and well, all bets are off. She's a frustrating character in spots but her commitment to the truth is admirable. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. It's a good read and here's hoping we see another installment.

I was drawn to read this book and am really pleased I did, some unexpected twists. Felt for Ally who seemed to be disbelieved at so many points by colleagues that should have backed her, afterall she found evidence that no-one else seemed to be able to do. Quite shocking that someone so trustworthy could ruin so many lives.
I look forward to reading future books by this author.

Somewhat frenetic murder mystery but generally good fun. When a CSI has been banished to a Devon backwater after revealing police corruption in a major incident unit she seems to be the sole person who sees inconsistencies in a local police investigation into a murder. The solution is just too convenient for her, the boyfriend did it, but no one wants to listen. It happens a second time again with evidence ignored and when her daughter becomes the third victim a convenient suspect is quickly charged. Her history and relationship with family and friends takes up a large part of the tale but it’s all relevant along with the perpetrators story also revealed. There’s a bit of a shock ending but nevertheless a satisfactory one with hopefully another episode to come.

CSI Ally Dymond's commitment to justice has cost her a place on the major investigations team. After exposing corruption in the ranks, she's stuck working petty crimes on the sleepy North Devon coast. Then the body of nineteen year old Janie Warren turns up in the seaside town of Bidecombe, and Ally's expert skills are suddenly back in demand. But when the evidence she discovers contradicts the lead detective's theory, nobody wants to listen to the CSI who landed their colleagues in prison.

When CSI Ally Dymond is called out to help investigate a murder on the beach, she's shocked to find she already knows the victim. 'she's a woman who she's attended to for a domestic abuse incident. We know quite early on who the murderer is and we follow them as their murder spree continues. Ally is a single parent try to balance work and family life. The characters are a mixed bunch, some likeable, other not so much. I was pulled in after a few short chapters. We get an insight from Ally and the antagonist. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Really enjoyed this! The story follows the criminal, a sick, twisted Paramedic who has people believing butter wouldn't melt and CSI Ally Dymond. I found Ally a little frustrating, as a CSI she was driven and precise however as a mother I wanted to take her aside and tell her off!

I never repeat the b;urb. Loved this - unusual premise and a cat and mouse game plot from start to finish. Maybe a tad rushed at the end - hence 4* - but a really good read and I look forward to reading more by this author.

Fantastic story, gripping police procedural. A paramedic is killing women he has previously attended and framing other people for the murders. But when he targets the daughter of CSI Ally Dymond, she is onto him and the chase to catch him begins. Great story.

My thanks to NetGalley and publisher HQ for the ARC.

Now, this is the start to a new crime series featuring Ally Dymond, a CSI. It starts off well when Ally is giving evidence in a murder trial which, on the face of it, could do nothing but incarcerate the accused. She was part of Devon County Police's Major Investigations Unit but, with her colleagues looking on, she refused to accept a piece of falsified evidence, resulting in several of those colleagues losing their jobs, and liberty. It also resulted in her being shunned by former colleagues and banished to the backwaters of Devon to work alone. That is until staff shortages cause her to attend a murder scene on Bidecombe Quay..

DI Bob Holt makes it clear that she's not really welcome but he's only got an inexperienced CSI in Jake Harris. As Ally goes about her work she becomes unhappy about the quick conclusions DI Holt is coming to, and when she tries to raise points with the DCI she's not listened to.

We are shown from the beginning who the killer is - he's cruel, unfeeling, manipulative and controlling, and he preys on the weak and vulnerable - but you don't find out until much later just how he goes about it.

To say anything else would rather spoil things. Although this has a well thought-out plot, I didn't really get into the characters, especially Ally - on the one hand she's exceptionally conscientious about her work, then she takes off and throws out the rule book! An overriding theme throughout is her relationship with her daughter versus her job, and this became rather tedious after a while.

Overall, good story, but Ally's character definitely needs some work.

This is a superb 5 🌟crime thriller.

If you love tension, drama, twists you don't see coming and one of the sickest killers invented, then this book is for you.

I was so engrossed the hours just flew by. I was really annoyed when real life got in the way forcing me to stop. I just wanted to read and read and read.

Highly recommended

I really enjoyed this debut and, possibly, start of a new series. Our protagonist in this story is Ally Dymond a CSI in a cosy Devon community. She was kicked out Major Incidents after throwing a Detective Inspector under a bus in court by telling the truth and not confirming his planted fingerprint evidence. So doing the right thing has cost her and her new colleagues are not too kindly disposed towards her. She gets all the boring jobs but one day she is called to a murder scene.

This time the SIO DI Bob Holt thinks he’s got his man as CCTV shows the victim and the apparent perpetrator arriving. An argument was heard and the man was seen running away. Clearly he killed his girlfriend. Ally is not so sure. There is a footprint that doesn’t seem to belong but no one is interested. Soon Ally is called to another death where the victim apparently started a fire by smoking. Only Ally knows she stopped smoking months ago and was using a vape. Again no one is interested in her theories and the death is put down as an accident.

By now we, the reader, know there is a sick killer operating in plain sight. We know who he is and yet the police have nothing. But when the killer targets Ally’s 15 year old daughter, Megan, he makes the biggest mistake of his life. You don’t poke the mamma bear! Ally is like vengeance personified in hunting down the killer. And if she can’t get to him by fair means then let it be foul!

Ally was a frustrating character in a way and she was clearly torn between her job and needing to be with her daughter. On behalf of all working mothers - I understand. Her friends were deserting her in droves as she pursued her daughter’s attacker with a single minded determination. It got very suspenseful towards the end. The actual ending is quite shocking but, in a way, fitting. I will be very interested in reading a sequel if there is to be one. Many thanks to Netgalley for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

A bleak story centred on two characters. A single mother with a teen-age demanding daughter and a demanding job as a CSI with limited support, ostracized by colleagues for not endorsing planted false evidence on a case, and fighting to further investigations on some questionable deaths. In parallel a serial killer at work in plain sight as a paramedic selecting victims from patients with whom he has obtained enough background information to pose anonymously as a possible acquaintance and groom them via social media while at the same time to cover his tracts, planting clues to implicate a scapegoat for the police. Things come to a head when the teeh-age daughter is attacked and left half dead with the police falling for the scapegoat as usual. How the mother takes matter into her on hands and ironically obtains justice is the story.
