Facing Mighty Fears About Throwing Up helps kids navigate the discomfort and avoidance typical in children when they need to vomit. As a child, I remember doing everything possible to avoid throwing up at all costs, and my son cries every time he’s sick so this is certainly a common anxiety for children. The book talks about why we throw up, avoiding contamination, and steps to take to make it less stressful using an instructional and conversational tone.

Facing Mighty Fears About Throwing Up is a great book with lots of interesting facts and explanations as to why we throw up and why it isn't a big deal - It just happens. It explains things in ways children will understand and hopefully will help some children overcome their fears.

Thank you to NetGalley and Jessica Kingsley Publishers for my ARC.

A great resource for parents, caregivers, and children. It describes the fear of throwing up in a clear, nonjudgmental tone--which is essential for a book that seeks to help those who are struggling but may feel ashamed about it. Metaphors are used to break down complicated concepts for kids. Fun facts seek to demystify the act of vomiting, as uncertainty and lack of knowledge can fuel fear. Further resources and information provided for adult readers are exceptionally helpful.

This was a great informative book that is easy for any child to grasp all the horrors that go with throwing up.

The illustrations were wonderful and my nine year old daughter greatly enjoyed it. She even said she is less nervous for the next time she gets sick!

This would be a great read in the classroom or in any outpatient therapy setting, or for any parent to read with their child.

Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I wish I had had this book growing up! Seems quite niche, but I had what I now know was pretty severe emetophobia when I was a kid that impacted my life quite a lot. I would have felt so much better knowing I wasn’t a weirdo for being so terrified of throwing up.

I wish this book would've been around when I was a child. As someone who struggled for years with undiagnosed anxiety, I could benefit from many books in this series. It was a challenge to click on this title, as I have emetophobia, and have since childhood. Finding myself, even recently, in situations where I obsess over avoiding getting sick and spend days with intense anxiety, this book is a great resource. While it will take more than reading this once for me to get over it, I do hope it will help children conquer their fears and avoid getting to adulthood with this fear. As a teacher, I'd recommend this book to my students (through way of their parents, as the language may be a little hard for 7 year olds).

Another fantastic book for Primary School Children easy for them to read and understand, the language is also easy for them to read so they can read on their own or with a parent/carer.
Ideal book for professionals to use with children. I can’t wait to use this book with the children I work with.

When I first read the title I wasn't sure what I got into when reading this book, but I am so glad I did. It is a wonderful book for younger and older kids to help normalize that sometimes throwing up happens. It gives so much helpful advice for kids to help move past the fear of throwing up, and even some wonderful tips for adults. Both kids and adults can use some of these tricks to help ease the stress associated with throwing up. One of my favorite fun facts from the book was how parmesan cheese and throw up can smell alike and the study that was done with them. I think this book could help both of my kids try hot dogs again, which is something that made them both throw up over 5 years ago when they got a bad batch. Overall great book that I recommend to all kids.

facing mighty fears about throwing up is an informative children's nonfiction book on the topic of emetophobia and the book i wish i had years ago

okay hear me out
i'm an adult reading a kids book
because i'm an emetophobic adult and this is a kids book about just that !
ironic really but this is actually really informative (uses proper terminology and validates emotophobia completely) and could definitely be helpful to kids who grew up with the same struggles
reading about your own fear isn't easy but the illustrations made it much less scary
i usually don't like messages that are about incouraging change in children, especially mental health wise but it's well written and helpful and made me smile and the notes to parent and caregivers were a nice touch and genuinely helpful

I wish this book had been around when I was a child as it might have helped a lot. While the advice is aimed at a much younger audience I will still be trying some of the techniques
