Wow I had no idea how much and how easy it is to freeze fruits and vegetables! It’s crazy to think how much I’ve thrown away that I could have frozen and used later. Each item has freezing instructions as well as storing and thawing. There’s also recipes included on how to use each item.

I will most definitely be buying this book when it is published because not only is it beautiful and educational but it is also so easy to understand and implement. I hate waste and as a vegan I eat mainly veg and living alone, I tend to get waste more than I like. This book has changed everything. I had no idea about blanching veg for freezing and using little moulds. I love that the book has an A-Z of produce and how to freeze it. This is so helpful. Moreover, the recipes are a huge bonus. Everyone could benefit from using this book.

Freeze Fresh is jam-packed with creative recipes (I never even thought of squash bolognese before this book!) and some of the most gorgeous food photography I have ever seen. Readers and Cooks alike will come away from this with better storage solutions and an enhanced meal-planning mindset for sure!

This was an informative book and I did learn a lot about freezing. I look forward to this year's gardening season, so I can freeze my veggies using the techniques shown in this book.

This was a great guide to freezer preserving almost all of the things I make for meal prep on a regular basis. Highly recommend if you're not sure how to freeze your everyday foods. To know which can be frozen as-is and which need to be blanched or cooked is extremely beneficial.

As a home economist, I didn't find it useful nor accurate. I am not someone who regularly engages in home food preservation but even I have better tips, tricks and advice than this source.

I couldn't believe the section on leafy greens. The comment about freezing lettuce just really frosted my flakes. So in answer the question posed in the book, did you know you can freeze lettuce? You can freeze anything but why would you waste your time, effort, freezer space for something that could be over 95% water. I don't need to freeze water. And then there were no recipes to use said frozen lettuce water.

It provides recipes and different cooking method , explaining how to incorporate these frozen foods into healthy meals.

This is a great guide not only for all of us urban farmers that get a little too excited in the spring and end up drowning in tomatoes by the end of summer, but also for anyone that would like to make their leftover produce go a little farther. I appreciated the thorough introduction to freezing as a method of preservation as well as the science and history behind it. As the author states, freezing can be an alternative to canning when you have too much to use, but not enough to haul out the canning paraphernalia, a situation I am often in. I love the idea of having a broth bowl in the freezer to deposit my food scraps instead of the trash.

My favorite feature of this book are the recipes. Once you’ve followed the instructions and have produced 5 lbs of lovingly frozen shredded carrots, there are hints and tips for use as well as a couple of full recipes that look delicious. Plus, the beautiful pictures are making my fingers itch to plant tomatoes again!

Really enjoyed this book! As someone who freezes a lot of produce in my freezer but in a very amateurish way (by just putting whatever it is I am freezing in a zip lock bag and that’s it), I was really looking forward to reading this and learning something new and usable.

The book is basically divided into three parts: freezing techniques, recipes that freeze well and recipes that use frozen produce.

The foreword hasn’t been written yet and the index doesn’t show the correct page numbers but besides these two little details the book is complete. There are many photographs and the text is well written, comprehensible and the recipes look delicious (though personally I would have to alter many as I am vegan). It’s not a book that you are meant to read start to finish, but rather one to use when you want to freeze a specific item or try particular recipe.

I have had freezer disasters and I know I am not alone. But that is because I did not have this really well designed and useful book at hand.
It is very informative about freezing in general and this provides a really good basis for understanding the techniques that will turn a freezer disaster into a freezer paradise. And I found the whole section about freezing specific types of foods - apples, peas, beans, tomatoes, ginger, potatoes, mangoes, raspberries, plums, cucumber, herbs, corn, etc - very useful, interesting and often surprising. Everything is presented very clearly and pictures are great. The idea of including recipes one can make with the frozen foods is really nice and can inspire to create your own. I found them all attractive and some are definitely on my list to make like the sunbaked strawberry jam, the freezer pickles, or the pot of vegetable scraps to make my own broth.
This book is definitely one for fans of vegetable gardens. Everything grows at once in the summer and there is only so much one can eat fresh. Freezing homegrown vegetable brings your summer vegetable garden on the plate all year long. But even for those like me who do not have a garden, we often can get nice vegetables and fruits from friends, family or the local farm stall and knowing how to freeze them properly will make a big difference to your winter meals.
I am confident now my freezing disaster days are behind me because this book will definitely stay at hand in my kitchen.

Full of useful tips and information with regards to freezing fruits and veg. I'd say this will be a useful addition for a new cook to have to hand. It has step by step instructions for all processes with handy hints and tips alongside some tasty recipes i recommend the raspberry cheesecake brownies!

Freeze Fresh by Crystal Schmidt is a great guide for teaching you the optimum way to freeze and store all your fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs.
I found so much helpful and useful advice in this book! The author goes over pros and cons of freezers, containers for storage, and the best ways to prep individual types of produce to get the best results.
I also enjoyed the recipes that were shared throughout the book.
A great resource for those looking for a way to start and keep an inventory of their favorite fruit and vegetables in their freezer.

I am guilty of composting produce because I bought too much to use before the food is past its prime. This book gives excellent advice on how to freeze fruit, vegetables, and herbs to minimize your food waste and maximize tasteful flavors. Each featured food item has an ideal way to freeze that particular item. Recipes to use the frozen ingredients are included as well as explanations of supplies to have on hand. I look forward to freezing fruit, vegetables, and herbs when they are in season so we can enjoy those fresh flavors and nutrients year round. Using the tips offered in Freeze Fresh will guarantee tasty results.

Where has this book been all my life?? Seriously. Cooking for one is a constant race against the clock (and the mush) when it comes to produce and I have never really learned how best to freeze excess produce or how to prep and freeze it for later use. I've tried with varying degrees of failure, but Freeze Fresh offers simple-to-follow instructions on how to prep and freeze dozens of fruits and vegetables, as well as recipes for both fresh meals as well as items such as sauces and pickled vegetables to freeze. I feel like for some people the methods in this book will seem like common sense, but if that's not you, you just might find a few useful gems in here! This is definitely a useful book for anyone who wants to reduce their produce waste.

Absolutely love books like this especially given the climate we are in. As a home Gardner I am often looking for ways to store food so it lasts as we often get an over abundance. Thanks to the author.

I received this book from the publisher through Netgalley for review and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Many people are turning to homesteading, urban gardening and local farms for fresh produce. Buying in bulk means best quality produce and lower prices with seasonal selections. In this lovely cookbook, the focus is on freezing techniques for best quality, longevity of seasonal produce and recipes to make with the food you freeze. Photos are gorgeous, showcasing fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables.
The book is highly informative with information on freezing techniques and history of the methodology. The methods of food preparation for freezing are well illustrated for the beginner. From containers, length of safe freezing times and labelling, to recipes for meal preparation from frozen; this book covers it all!
Best book I have found on the topic so far and I've read many a book on the topic. Definitely a book I want in my cookbook shelf.

I’m a sucker for a good deal and often get big baskets of fresh produce in season from my local farmers markets. My only regrets are that I sometimes can’t use it all. Then winter comes around and I really wish I had some of those fresh berries, or beans or corn, etc. this book is going to change things now that I better understand what freezes well, what may be better cooked vs just frozen for later, and just how to perfectly prep it for a winter treat.

The author provides great detail in her instructions along with plenty of pictures. In some of them, I felt like I was seeing my Grammy’s containers from her freezer…what great memories they invoked. I’m going to be ready for Summer’s bounty this year and my family will reap the rewards right along with me. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in doing the same. It’s a great resource!

This is a really informative and in-depth book about how to freeze a wide variety of fresh foods. It begins with all the information you would ever need to know about freezers, how to freeze and how to get the best out of your freezer. It then goes on to list all the 55 fruits and vegetables and explains clearly how to freeze them, and how to use them. There are several lovely recipes for each food item, and there are definitely some that I will try. This book is for someone who wants to invest time and effort in freezing and cooking, and wants to learn from the vast experience and skills of the author. I was surprised at some of the ingredients that could be frozen, and I think I will try freezing some of them. It was also helpful that she explained the best containers/bags to use for each item, and the different ways of defrosting each item. However, I know that I could cook some of these recipes from shop-bought frozen ingredients - they probably won't be as nice as the home frozen fresh fruit and veg, but some of these recipes look so delicious, that I'm sure the end result will be great.
