Are you ready for the roller coaster ride that is The Club? After reading and really enjoying People Like Her, I was keen to see what this writing duo had in store for us next. And I was not disappointed.

The Club, a new exclusive members only club with a waiting list, is opening a new resort. Island Home is said to be the best and most exclusive yet. The launch party is going to be the celebrity even of the decade and everybody wants in. An isolated location, you just know that things are not going to be smooth sailing. That many egos in one place - a recipe for disaster!! The invitees and the staff are hiding things, and will do anything to keep their secrets safe.

A fun, extravagant murder mystery, where anybody could be the culprit. A fast and enjoyable read. Love the insight to the world of the rich and famous.

Thanks to Pan Macmillan and Netgalley for my advanced copy to read. Published April 7th.

This is an ideal beach read, imagine an exclusive members only club in which only the richest elite can join.
Ned Groom has built Home into a club where people can only hope to join, with clubs all around the world, the latest being an old Manor house on an island in the UK only accessible by a causeway. However what the members don't realise is Ned has a surprise in store for a few of them
This is a fast paced read, intruige, blackmailing and surprises in store. Life as a celebrity is not all as it seems.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Pan McMillan publishers for the opportunity to read this advanced copy. I am under no obligation to leave my review

I loved the last book by Elbert Lloyd, so was really looking forward to reading this - and it did not disappoint..
Easy to read, unputdownable, I just wanted to know what happened next. I liked the characters, all were interesting and it was not obvious what was going to happen throughout.

An interesting idea for a story and quite original, I would recommend this totally, modern and current - a great book.

I’ve found my new Jackie Collins! I loved the writers’ last book, People Like Her, so was delighted to be invited to review this one. It did not disappoint. Glamorous characters and lifestyles, jetsetters with huge secrets just ripe for blackmail, mysterious deaths and characters with a grudge. What a great package! I read it avidly and the only disappointment was finishing it. I think these characters could have more stories in them and I’d love to read them.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I've got to say I found it quite hard going to begin with. There are a lot of characters to keep up with and it took a while for the story to get going. However, once I did get into the story I found that I quite enjoyed it. A well plotted murder mystery story with twists that I didn't see coming. A glimpse into the world of the rich and famous and all in all an enjoyable read.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

This book centres around an exclusive clubs called “Home”. They have these clubs in all parts of the world, and they are just about to open Island Home - which is a Home resort, on a larger scale. Only really famous people can become members of Home, for a yearly membership fee. And as we read the story we find that there’s many secrets kept within the walls of this exclusive world.

We read from a few characters points of view, and it totally worked so we’re able to see how secrets come tumbling out. The writing was excellent, and the story weaved together so there were no loose ends. It gave an insight into the world of the rich and famous, and how some get away with all sorts of things, from minor to major things. There were many twists and turns, a couple I guessed, but many I didn’t. This was another great read from this new author. Highly recommended!!

Loved it as much as I loved the last Ellery Lloyd book - full of scandal and gossip, hidden truths and buried secrets.
Centred around the opening weekend for Island Home, the latest venture in a series of exclusive venues, bases for the richest and most celebrated film stars, musicians and artists . Island Home is designed to be the most luxurious exclusive and sought after venues of the lot, and the guests hand picked for the opening weekend are under no illusion that they are the cream of the crop. Ned Groom, the club's owner, has spared no expense in laying on anything that you can think of and then some.
Opening with a driver's break for freedom driving chaotically across an inaccessible causeway whilst fireworks blast behind them and the party goes on into the night, the story is told from a range of viewpoints as well as extracts from a Vogue article giving more background information through the story.

The Club grabbed my attention from the first second and didn't let go. More please!

I enjoyed this read, about an exclusive Club on a island. It was interesting to see what needs to be done to become a member of the exclusive club. Loved the read.

Wow, what a book!! I was instantly gripped and taken on a dark, seedy, intriguing and glamorous high life of the ultra rich and famous and how dark, twisted secrets can fester and make people do and act things which they would never do if not caught in their own trap of lies and deceit. And how the past can catch up with you even when you think you have got away with it. Absolutely first class thriller. Brilliant.

This is the first book that I've read by Ellery Lloyd but I would definitely be up for reading more from this author in the future.
I will say, this does take a bit to fully get going as there is a lot of scene setting and giving you the initial perspectives of many of our characters and chapter narrators. But you simply have to persevere as once it gets going, it really gets going.
I loved the reveals, the blackmailing, the revenge and how I couldn't put this book down once it hit its stride.
I also liked the way the current day articles and reactions to what had happened were weaved in amongst it.
There are quite a lot of characters to keep a track of, particularly the celebrities who up until near the end feel almost interchangeable. But once you realise who is who, this really comes into its own.
None of the characters who are in the firing line, as to say, are particularly likeable. So it is nice to see many of them, if not all of them, get their comeuppance in the end.
You could also imagine who these stars are, as well as what it would be like to visit one of the Home clubs, from the way that everything is described so vividly.
Definitely a unique take on this kind of story and if you are a fan of Lucy Foley's books or even as is hinted in the blurb, the likes of The White Lotus (but with more drama, stakes and murder), I would certainly give this a read.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Outstanding…
A simply outstanding read and a tour de force in this particular genre. Written slickly, with nigh on perfect, sharp and keenly observed characterisation, a twisting and devious plotline with strands aplenty and a well imagined setting, the action just never stops. The dual timeline is done to perfection, seamlessly incorporated throughout. The compelling premise delivers completely, a one sit read that cannot be parted with until that very last page. Bravo!

The Club takes you into the world of the rich and famous as they embark on what is looking to be the biggest celebrity event of the decade, reserved for only the elite.

It took me quite some time to become fully invested in this read as I just didn't feel the thrill element to begin with, it lacked the excitement I needed. Let me tell you, however, eventually this turns into a book which comes at you with drama left, right and centre! I think it would have kept my attention a little more if we were fed some of those storylines earlier rather than all at once.

This is the first book I have read by Ellery Lloyd and I would certainly be open to reading future material.

thank you netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc of this book. i really enjoyed ellery lloyd's debut novel 'people like her', which i originally only picked up because part of the writing duo is one of my lecturers at university but it was great. gripping, very character-driven and the couple have an amazing way of making you really hate the characters they write.

i'd say the same for 'the club'. once again, ellery lloyd creates flawed and love-t0-hate characters that grip you. although there was a lot more going on in this book and it took more focus than their debut novel, this was worth it to get to the last 1/3 which had great twists and turns.

definitely a great author for both intrigue and a bit of a psychological mind-f*ck.

Rating: 3.4/5

I was very impressed by Ellery Lloyd's debut novel, "People Like Her" and there is also a lot to like about the second book that the husband-and-wife writing partnership has produced. This time around the pair have produced another contemporary thriller, but on this occasion it is set in the glitzy, glamourous and exclusive world of a celebrity club rather than that of online "influencers".

The narrative is provided from the viewpoints of a number of key protagonists, plus an additional perspective in the form of an article in "Vanity Fair" that appears at the end of each chapter. Events unfold across two timeframes, which is quite neatly handled: The "Vanity Fair" piece provides a retrospective report on events surrounding the opening of the latest addition to "The Home Group" portfolio, the "Island Home" club. The accounts from the other characters relate events as they were happening at the time of that same opening. As we gradually learn more about each of the narrators and the high profile members of "The Home Club" it soon becomes apparent that nobody is quite as they would appear and everybody has something to hide.

Like their previous thriller, "The Club" is a cleverly constructed mystery with plot lines that have been well thought through. The characterisation is also appealing and the two writers once again make a good fist of delivering authentic differentiation between the protagonists. Seeing the portrayals of the various world famous stars is great fun and also allows the reader to play their own game, guessing which real life celebrities may have provided the inspiration for these fictional creations.

All of that said, on the whole, I didn't think this consistently matched the overall quality of Ellery Lloyd's debut. It could have - and probably should have. The ingredients are all there to make this a top notch mystery thriller, but certain sections struck me as a touch overwritten and this, in turn, had an adverse effect on the pace of the novel. Nonetheless, this is still an enjoyable mystery and well worth adding to your reading list.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for supplying an ARC in return for an honest review.

Another brilliantly twisty thriller from the writers of People Like Her. Smart, sassy take the mask-eats-the-face horrors of fame and darkly funny too - way more White Lotus than Nine Perfect Strangers, and all the better for it. Next one please!

I have to applaud the skills of an author (or in this case authors since Ellery Lloyd is the pen name for a husband and wife writing team) who can create a world full of horrible people which is thoroughly enjoyable to read. The Home Clubs are designed for the privileged few. The home away from home where the celebrated and the famous can mingle in comfort free from the gaze of the paparazzi and the demands of fans.

The exclusivity is ramping up with the latest venue for the Home Group set on a private island available exclusively for the use of members. The launch weekend is set to be one no one will ever forget, but not necessarily for the reasons they expect.

Movie stars, chart toppers, celebrity artists and talk show hosts. You don’t have to be a big follower of celebrity gossip pages to recognise the kind of people on the Home Club membership lists. It would have been easy to have created characters to populate this book using thinly disguised parodies of real life celebs, but each of the people in this book manage to be both recognisable as celebrity types without ever feeling cliched or copies of real people.

What’s also great is that despite the number of characters, and there are a fair few, it never feels overwhelming. The characters are distinctive enough to easily keep straight, and the narrative is largely focussed through three or four really significant characters.

I really enjoyed how the story played out, and the ending - without giving anything away - feels absolutely spot on.

I actually have no words to explain how much I loved this novel. I devoured it in a few hours- unputdownable, clever, terrifyingly relatable to the ‘members only’ vibes we see and just bloody brilliant!

I thoroughly enjoyed People Like her and was excited to read this new one. If possible, there are even more twists and turns in the story to keep you addictively turning the page to see what happens

Ned Groom owns a chain of extreme top class 'hotels' around the globe only for the very rich and famous who can afford them. For the huge sums they pay for Home membership they are guaranteed complete privacy, endless food, drink and entertainment, and anything they want is provided. Needless to say, competition to meet membership requirements is tough and the contracts are extensive and detailed.

Ned is having an opening extravaganza weekend of the new addition to his empire, Home Island, and social media is abuzz with just who will be invited. The island is only accessible by air or sea and only by road at certain times when the tide is out. Members must all relinquish their phones on arrival and media is banned. Throw into the mix a range of characters with their own secrets and you have the perfect setting for a psychological 'whodunit"!

An excellent read!

Whilst at times I just wanted the story to tell me died, and exactly why,I appreciated the build up to the reveal.
There were a lot of characters,a lot of background, and a lot of secrets, sometimes I felt a bit weighed down by that.
Mostly though,I was entertained and amused by the book, nodding along at some of the characters when I recognised the type (I do not know any murderers I'd like to add,or famous stars)
Enjoyable.
