This short novella/prequel is basically a teaser for the upcoming first book in the series... its sets the stage for Sloane and Joseph's story in Her Romeo out in February 2022.
Sloane Brennan is the daughter of the Irish mob boss in NYC, and Joseph Rossi is the oldest son and heir apparent to the Italian mob in New York... they use to secretly be best friends as children until their circumstances torn them apart on the night of their high school graduation. In the five year since, Sloane has distanced herself as much as possible from the family business as she studies to become a lawyer. Joseph, on the other hand, leaned into his role and is working to become his father's right hand man. When a chance encounter in LA, where Sloane has been living, leaves the pair fighting the emotions they've been worked hard to ignore all these years, they find themselves fighting for not only a chance at a future together but their safety.
This ends on a cliffhanger, ensuring you'll read the full story. There's Romeo-Juliet style mafia romance if that's your thing, good girl-bad boy trope, and steam.

I really enjoyed this book, I read it in about two hours. It was very short, but it is a short story/prequel that is leading up to the first book in the series. I'm very excited about the first full-length novel in the series because I know there's going to be a lot of emotions, it's going to be a complete whirlwind.
I think that the characters are pretty likable, except Caleb (If you've read it, then you know why) The romantic and sexual tension that is between them is so strong and it's definitely going to make for an amazing, crazy book 1 in the series.
I wasn't a fan of the ending, but it is setting up for the first book... sooo i'understand.
Thank you, NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book felt longer than its 80 pages but not in a bad way. I really enjoyed this and was certainly left wanting more.
Also I didn’t realise it was a prequel. It is and Her Romeo is out in February. And I’ll be keeping my eyes open for its release.
Sloane and Joseph were secret best friends growing up. They never stood a chance since they’re from opposing families. Her father is one of the biggest mob bosses in New York. His father is the other and the families hate each other.
So when these two accidentally meet after a five year gap. All kinds of feelings are exploding between them.
I really enjoyed this one. Not the ending obviously because it’s left ready for Her Romeo. But the rest was good.
Don’t let my rating put you off. I’m a bit stingy with my stars and this was only a short prequel.
