A fairly enjoyable read. The chemistry between Violet and Cain was pretty good even though I did not warm up to either of them at first. I did like Violet more as the story went on. It was good to see her change from someone who adapts to what she thinks other people want to someone who makes her makes her own choices, speaks her mind and chooses who she wants to be. Cain was no doubt very hot in a moody broody way but he had a lot of moments in which he was a bit of asshat especially to Violet. Think the story would have benefitted from getting more of his side / in his head especially in relation to his life before Edith found him. Overall though an interesting read worth a look (3.75 ⭐️ )
I really enjoyed this story. The interaction and dialogue was so well written and all the characters came alive. Would definitely recommend this story. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read a review copy. I will definitely be looking out for more books by this author.
Raised in the privileged world of Upper East Side Manhattan, Violet Townsend always says the right things, wears the right clothes, and never rocks the boat. So when a friend of her beloved grandmother asks Violet to teach her newly discovered grandson how to fit in with the city's elite, Violet immediately agrees. Her task? To prepare Cain Stone to take his place as heir to his family company . . . but he's not exactly an eager student. Loved it, amazing… just wow!… this book is exquisite. Absolute perfection.
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Violet is stuck. She is in an unhappy relationship, people pleasing her way through life, her parents died when she was young so Edith took her under her wing and they became very close. Violet would do anything for Edith, but when she’s asked to give Edith’s rugged grandson Cain a makeover (physically and mentally), she isn’t so sure. It is hate at first sight and there is no way she can change this man… can she?
This was the such a sweet romance book, that gave me all of the Blair Waldorf vibes I was searching for! Cain and Violet had such amazing chemistry and I was rooting for them until the end. I loved Cain’s work ethic and the way he fell for Coco the Yorkie warmed my heart!
It reads like an early 2000s romcom movie and as someone who has consumed WAY too many romcoms, I was super happy about that!
This is a story about taking someone as they are, flaws and all, and about knowing your worth.
I had such a nice time reading this and will definitely pick up any future books from Lauren Layne!
This was a pure delight. It was just the most beautiful rom-com and a huge pleasure to read. Violet was such a fun character, I loved to read her story.
Oooooh I just LOVED this book!
It's a grumpy/sunshine, opposites attract, reverse (sort of) My Fair Lady.
Violet is a prim, proper, pearl-wearing lady living amongst the Manhattan hoi palloi. She's sweet and kind, but also toeing the line. Until she gets tasked with turning the rough Cain Stone (a long-lost heir to a massive company) into a city businessman.
The banter between these two is fantastic. Cain can be rude and course, but he's met his match with Violet!
Over time, Violet realizes how wrong she was to judge Cain on his appearance and to expect him to change. Because of him, she even starts to question her life and goals. And, of course, Cain falls for the new, emboldened Violet.
Lauren Layne's writing style is simple, easy to read, immersive, and balanced. (No lengthy monologs or descriptions or backstory.) In fact, it's so natural, that I got lost in the story and forgot to make any notes!
In summary: Sweet, funny, light, swoony, and downright brilliant!
Made in Manhattan is a good book, I like the reverse retelling with a modern twist. My favourite thing about the book is the interaction between the main characters, they are very funny together but can also be wholesome.
I also like the interaction with the 'villain' of the story and how she saves herself, not waiting for someone else!
DNF. I really enjoyed 'To Sir With Love', but this one turned me off almost a handful of pages into reading it. The writing really isn't the best and you can overlook it if the plot and storytelling is good - which is missing significantly in this book. I couldn't force myself to get through any more than I did. As a rom-com, I imagine it'll appeal to someone, but not me.
This was a little bit a downer.
I live this author, and I just could not wait to read this one, but I felt little let down.
I don't know why it just wasn't a read for me.
Thank you NetGalley and Headline for this ARC in exchange for an honest review :)
This was my first Lauren Layne book & I loved it! The writing style is just what I like and the characters were really enjoyable. I sped through this book and finished it in less than a day, and the epilogue finished the story off perfectly!
4.5 stars overall :)
Absolutely fantastic. Didn't want to put it down once I started. Loved the characters and the storyline.
Thanks for my eARC. I loved the premise of this and thought it was executed really well. Loved the characters and tension/steam, I just wish there was more 🤣
Made in Manhattan is not, I think, the best of Lauren Layne's books but it was a pleasant way to spend a few hours this afternoon. I enjoyed the story but I felt that the characters had less bounce and vitality than many of her other creations. That's not to say that Made in Manhattan is bad; it's just less good.
I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I have been a fan of Lauren Layne books for several years and am yet to read one that I have not enjoyed. Made in Manhattan is an enjoyable and easy to read romance that sucks you into the characters world and keeps you turning the pages to read more. The characters were lovable and funny and I enjoyed seeing their development and relationship build. As always I look forward to reading further from this author,
Made in Manhattan features Violet Townsend, a Manhattan socialite, who is tasked with teaching her grandmother's best friend's long-lost grandson, Cain Stone, how to fit in with the Manhattan crowd so that he can take over as CEO. Cain is an unwilling participant at first (to say the least!), but the two eventually reach a mutual understanding.
This was a light, humorous, opposites-attract / grumpy x sunshine book, which I enjoyed reading. There was great banter between Violet x Cain, and I really loved how the book was not only about their relationship, but how Cain helped her grow and realised that she wanted more from her own life.
A thoroughly good enjoyable read. I didn’t want to put it down! I will definitely be looking for more by this author. Well done!
If I am looking for a light easy read, Lauren Layne's romcom are a go-to for me - and this one was exactly what I needed! A cute twist on "My Fair Lady", it's an adorable slow-burn romance and the chemistry between the immensely likeable lead characters, Violet and Cain, really works, despite it being a real case of opposites attract. I loved the New York setting and always enjoy revisiting the city through Layne's eyes. All in all a fun read and Layne yet again delivered (and gave us the most adorable epilogue!)
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and all opinions are my own.
This book is fantastic! A sweet and romantic story that has the reader glued to its pages. I really liked the MCs and thought there was great chemistry between them. There are some important turning points throughout the novel, both for the characters individually as well as together.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and will be recommending it to everyone!
Opposite attracts with great banter and interesting characters overall, this romance story reminds me of My fair Lady movie and I really loved that one years ago.
The interaction between Cain and Violet was such a delight to partake throughout the story, they both grow as characters and all in a great way.
Not sure if I liked all of her friends or their attitudes but I did enjoyed seeing more reliable characters in this fictional world.
It takes a while for Violet to give up and recognise her feelings for Cain and to actually accept that she wants to be romantically involved with him, but this slow burn fits perfectly in here.
Looking forward to read more by the author in the future
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley

Ahhh I’ve loved this book so much. This is a classic Lauren Layne story and a perfect gender reversed twist on “My Fair Lady”.
Pretty sure that Violet is one of my favorite heroines at the moment, the fact that she’s wanted to help Cain made her very endearing to me, and I liked her personality in general. And Cain is just the perfect grumpy hero. Their chemistry is phenomenal and if you still haven’t added this book to your tbr then you definitely should. Plus the epilogue was just to die for.
