🌱THE EXCELLENT
~ Historical Japanese Rakugo Storytelling deep-manga-dive
~ Teaching us the importance of finding and investing in your passion
~ A story about finding your family as you go out into the world

There is a little tanuki (shapeshifting raccoon) eager to make it on her own and trick all of the idiot humans she comes across; only problem is, people have become more difficult to trick, and all of her cheap con-woman plans fall through. She is ready to call it quits until she comes across the masterful Rakugo performer, Bunko, the best in Japan. Through this experience she watches as this storyteller spins a tale with her actions and voice that transports all listeners, brining them into the world of the story, essentially tricking them into believing they are living the tale. She decides she will become a master at Rakugo, so that she may completely trick all the humans her little tanuki heart longs to trick.

The beginning of a tanuki’s journey to finding a place of acceptance and transferring her talents into new passion instead of giving up.

✨Give it a read.

🌱THE MEH
~ A slow story which develops gradually and may not be for those who prefer their manga with many action scenes and intrigue.

I received a copy of this manga through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I had no idea what Rakugo was and at first this manga did not feel like totally my cup of tea but it grew on me over the course of the story. The characters were cute, the situations funny and the art cute! I learned a lot about Rakugos and their art of story-telling. Overall a nice educational manga!😊

2/5 Decided to give feedback even though I didn't fully finish it.

I really was not enjoying this and I enjoy most comedy and slice of life type manga. I gave it two stars because I didn't hate this (usual reserve for books with bad themes and such) and the artwork was really pretty. I would consider checking out more from this author but this one would be better suited for those who like tanuki shenanigans.

The tanuki, Mameda falls in love with the rakugo performer master. She wants to learn rakugo with her. And end up living with human beings. It's a story about the tanuki, probably tanuki it's a main character in most Japanese fairy tales. I'm glad there are notes about rakugo and explanations of those Japanese traditional stories.
