The Golden Couple, Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen

Avery is an unusual therapist. A “maverick” an article dubbed her. Marissa and Matthews marriage is strained. They need help. As all three collide, secrets are revealed nobody is quite who they appear.

The beauty of Hendricks and Pekkanen is that no matter how many times you think you’ve got it. You haven’t. Every single twist has another one hidden beneath it. Following both Avery and Marissa this is my third novel by the pairing and my second favourite. The pair are always a solid domestic thrill. This is worth the investment of time.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #PanMacmillan for my copy of this one.

Greer Hendricks has written a lot of books I have enjoyed over the years, and I was very excited to try The Golden Couple.

Avery is a very interesting and complex character, Marissa even more so. These two women are on a path that will collide with catastrophical consequences.

I urge anyone who loves a thriller with twists to read this!

Amazing as usual! I have read a couple of books from the same authors in the past and have liked them. So I knew this book would be good as well, and am happy to say that it lived up to the expectations. This is a superb psychological thriller which had me gripped from get go.
The story is excellent and I loved the way it is written - from the POV of different characters. This book is an absolute page-turner and really hard to put down once you start reading. I’m really glad I got a chance to read it. Can’t wait for the author’s next book, hope it comes out soon!
Thank you to the publishers Pan Macmillan for an advanced copy of this ebook and giving me a chance to review this fantastic book!

I’ve enjoyed Hendricks and Pekkenan’s previous books, but I found this one terribly sow and difficult to get into. I didn’t like any of the characters and that made it difficult for me to care about what happened.

'The Golden Couple' is a great read - the characters have depth, the story hooks you in and the plot is exciting. It's one of those books where you tell yourself you'll finish the page and then go to sleep or do some chores etc but you'll just want to carry on reading! It's my third book from this writing duo and within minutes of finishing it, I've downloaded the audiobook of 'An Anonymous Girl' as I wanted to read more of their work and that one's new to me.

It's written from the perspective of two women; Avery is in the first person and Marissa is in the third. The writing flows well and the suspense builds steadily as the story progresses. Initially, I was a little surprised when I read the reason why 'the golden couple' of the title were seeking help from a therapist, as it seemed too excessive for their problem but it wasn't long before it all became clear, as more information began to emerge. There's also a sub-plot which takes shape too and no loose ends are left hanging at the end,, which I like!

I highly recommend this book and wish the authors every success.

I have been waiting for this book for a long time as have been a fan of these two authors since ‘The Wife Between Us’ - if I hadn’t been suffering from sinusitis I would’ve easily devoured this a lot quicker too am sure!

‘The Golden Couple’ introduces us to Avery Chambers, a therapist that claims to fix any clients issues within ten sessions using a specially designed programme. If she doesn’t think she can in this timeframe then simply you don’t become a client. The story begins when we meet her latest clients, golden couple Marissa and Matthew, and suddenly there are too many secrets in the room

The fourth title from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen does not disappoint, another page-turner that keeps you guessing right up until the end. I love the writing style of these authors, they involve you in the characters and their backgrounds, all the while progressing the main storyline seamlessly, always ready for the next twist or reveal. A few times I thought I’d figured it out only to be completely surprised by the next direction the story took us in. A very captivating book, the only thing that disappoints me is the wait I have to the next title by these authors! Highly recommend!

I have read books by these authors before and find they are especially good at keeping the reader's attention because you really start to live inside the main characters' heads. The same goes for this book, told from the points of view of Marissa, a woman with marriage problems and Avery, a not so traditional psychologist. All through the book you get little clues as to what actually may be going on but the strength of it is that you can't really know the truth until almost the end. It's about the secrets people keep and the damage they cause to themselves and others but also about power and control in relationships. When I got to the last chapters I just had to find out, so I kept going even though I should have gone to sleep. It's that kind of book. So definitely a yes, if you are a person who likes that kind of book.

I scared myself by reading this book alone! It's a real thriller of a ride and I raced through to try and work out what was going on. The twists and turns were magnificent. No spoilers! My favourite character was the therapist, Avery, Although I didn't really warm to her, she was a fascinating person. A good read and well worth your time.

Absolutely Superb. That's all you need to know about this book but if you want to read on .....

This is the first book I have read/reviewed by these authors and I now realise that I have been missing a lot.
I have a habit (annoying?!) of categorising books/stories and, for me, The Golden Couple, fits firmly in the Big Little Lies category. The pace of the book is never lost nor is there any over elaborative descriptions of locations or of past events that do not contribute much to the story.
The chapters alternate between Avery (The Therapist) and Marissa (The Wife/Mother needing help). There are little twists as you go along but as always with books of this type you try to anticipate/guess the ending. I don't think I really worked out who and why. The secondary story lines are very neatly wrapped up in the final couple of chapters.
Loved every minute of it.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the loan of this book.
I absolutely love this duo of authors, and have read all their books to date. This one was just as fabulous as the previous books and I couldn't wait to reach the conclusion.
Marissa and Matthew are seemingly a golden couple. Both are successful working parents to a lovely young boy, and a beautiful home who met as teenagers and have a wonderful relationship. Why then did Marissa cheat on Matthew? And can their relationship survive this betrayal? Enter psychotherapist Avery Chambers who boldly states that if she cannot fix a relationship in 10 sessions she wont take you on as a client. Marissa hires Avery and takes a reluctant Matthew to their first session in the hopes Avery can help repair their damaged relationship. After the first session Avery takes it upon herself to investigate the couple and find out exactly what makes them tick. She undertakes a bit of detective work to find out more, but the more she digs the more complex matters become. This is not just your average couple needing help in their marriage. It is much darker than that, with long buried secrets and murderous intent. Deceit and lies aplenty. This is yet another cracking read from my favorite writing duo. A must read!

I loved the slightly different take on the typical "perfec couple seek therapy" type story turned into a suspese/ thriller. It did keep me more engaged than others of a similar plat have and there's so many twists and turns that have you suspecting everyone of everything. The book isn't the most fast paced, it does plod along rather slowly and then all of sudden everything goes full speed and there's the bit twist and big reveal which to me, just felt a bit rushed. The characters were really well written and you will be hooked, if for no other reason than to finally find out just what's going on. Overall, it's a pretty decent read and will pass q few hrs in the blank of an eye

Another fantastic read by this wonderful duo.
The writing is pacy and intriguing and the characters are all interesting.
There were plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing and the ending was unexpected and very well written.
It’s definitely one that I’d recommend.

I have really enjoyed Greer Hendricks' and Sarah Pekkanen's other books, so I was super excited to get my hands on a copy of The Golden Couple.

It's written in the same pacy, engaging way that their earlier works are. I found it incredibly easy to get sucked into.
The story was well paced, with just enough twists and turns to keep the ending from being overly obvious.
I do, however, feel as though this book didn't hit the mark quite as well as their earlier ones. Thrillers can be quite predictable, despite the nature of them, but their earlier books explored interesting characters, relationships and dynamics outside of the typical "troubled marriage, sinister secret" formula.

This book, while very well written, goes back to that old formula. It's an enjoyable book and time well spent reading it, but it didn't stand out to me as much as the character dynamics in You Are Not Alone and An Anonymous Girl.

What a start to 2022 with this gem 👏🏻👏🏻
THE GOLDEN COUPLE is the upcoming book by @ @ - out March 📆 Meet Avery Chambers and Marissa Bishop. Avery is an ex-therapist who’s unorthodox methods promise to “fix” her clients in 10 sessions. Marissa has cheated on her husband but desperately wants to repair things with him and seeks out Avery’s help.

The story unfolds through the alternating perspectives of Avery and Marissa. You think you know what’s going on, but you’re wrong … You start to question EVERYTHING, you’re made paranoid - who can you really trust? 😬

It’s a brilliant and clever suspenseful psychological thriller with a mystery + multiple plots that will keep you on the edge of your seats throughout - Intensity building with each page *𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘵 𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘢𝘨 𝘩𝘺𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘫𝘪 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦*

I was utterly HOOKED on this one - 5🌟

I’ve read all of the books so far from this much loved duo and and so I was naturally very excited to read their latest offering. However, as is often the case it sadly didn’t live up to expectations! I like the dual POV from Marissa and Avery and like the whole therapist gone rogue storyline. It started out pretty interesting but I was just waiting and waiting for the inevitable twist and when it arrived it was one I’d already predicted and so was super disappointed with the ending. Sadly I think this might be my least favourite book from these two. Having really enjoyed The Anonymous Girl though it wouldn’t stop me from revisiting them in the future.

This is a gripping book with a compelling storyline that engaged me the whole way through. it was susoenseful, unpredictable and fullof twists that left me unsure what would happen or who was trustworthy. I couldnt out it down and I really enjoyed it.

The Golden Couple; Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen
Genre: Domestic Suspense/Psychological Thriller
Rating: 3.5 stars

The Golden Couple is the latest from bestselling duo, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I was excited to read this after being a fan of their earlier novel, The Wife Between Us.

The plot follows alternates between Avery, a therapist who has recently lost her license due to misconduct and Marissa, a wife seeking couples therapy due to infidelity. Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen weave a complex story about secrets and marriage and asks the question about how much we really know about those closest to us. Avery is steadfast in her mission to help others using her unconventional therapy techniques and is determined to help this couple mend their relationship. Marissa is relatable and believable as a wife and mother and you feel invested in what happens to her. The authors throw in enough red herrings and twists that it will leave you wondering how on earth is everything going to tie together. The ending was satisfying and I’ll confess I didn’t see coming.

This book is just as a good if not better than the Wife Between Us and I’d most definitely read other books by these authors.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for an early copy of this novel.

A good story, with numerous twists, which I didn't foresee. The characters were all very believable, and I found it difficult to put this book down. I would definitely recommend it.

Suitably Slick Collaboration….
A compelling and suspenseful domestic noir from a suitably slick author collaboration. Characters are wholly credible, scenarios believable and well crafted, twists often unexpected and emotions raw and realistic. What to expect from the storyline will undoubtedly change several times as the reader reads on. A page turner with a premise that really does deliver.
