Who would name a child Sunshine, then give her away?'

Chrissie and Stuart are happily married and members of a successful rock band, but one thing they are desperate for, to make their lives complete, is to have a family and, after years of trying to adopt, they are finally matched with a three year old girl called Sunshine. She appears to have no family history but as the adoption process is completed, snippets of her past emerge and Chrissie fears the worst...

Waiting for Sunshine is a story which will have you laughing one minute and reaching for the tissues the next. It's a tale of love, relationships, friendships and many secrets and in amongst all of this is Sunshine, an adorable little three year old that melted my heart, I just wanted to take her home with me! I loved this authors previous book, Mix Tape, and was looking forward to reading this one. Once again, Sanderson has created a story that is full of believable characters, a great plot and some huge revelations that are drip fed throughout the book to keep the reader intrigued, and it worked! If you're looking for a heartwarming story with a twist, this is one for you.

I'd like to thank Random House UK Transworld Publishers for inviting me to read this title, I will post my review on Goodreads now and Amazon on publication day.

Absolutely beautiful book about adoption. The real star of this story is little Sunshine herself, a wonderful creation that you can almost see, hear and smell. The other main characters in the book are well nuanced too, with good and bad features that make them so much more believable. The only exception is ‘Prospero’, who is such a pantomime villain with no redeeming features. I think he stands out as the rest of the characters are so well drawn. This in no way detracts from the book though, it’s a five star read from me.

This story of hope, trust, love and family caught my imagination from the start. After waiting for what seems like a lifetime, Chrissie and Stuart find that they are about to become adoptive parents to Sunshine, a three year old girl.. But Sunshine brings not only joy, but secrets and a past.
I enjoyed Jane Sanderson's previous novel Mix Tape and this novel has not been a disappointment, the characters were interesting and believable and the storyline kept me engrossed.
Well worth reading.

Waiting for Sunshine follows Chrissie and Stuart, a husband and wife duo and rock band members. They've longed for a family of their own and finally receive the news that a three-year-old girl named Sunshine is waiting for them to adopt. While Sunshine comes to them with no family history, it isn't long before secrets are slowly revealed and pieces of Sunshine's mysterious past life impact her new one with Chrissie and Stuart.

I really enjoyed Sanderson's previous novel, Mix Tape, so I was eager to check out Waiting for Sunshine, which is essentially a book about hope, love and family. While I thought the storyline was compelling and the characters relatable and well-written, Chrissie wasn't my favourite protagonist. In the beginning, I enjoyed getting acquainted with both her and Stuart and their relationship. Then as secrets were revealed in the second half and Chrissie has to examine both her and Sunshine's pasts, I found I didn't agree with her behaviour at points.

However, she was thankfully surrounded by some great supporting characters, like adorable Sunshine and Nina. I was also satisfied with the ending, which tied up all the loose ends.

An enjoyable, but in my mind, slightly over long story of a little girl called Sunshine. I really enjoyed the first half of the book but during the second half the storyline blurred and dragged, even with lots of secrets being revealed. A few likeable characters throughout the book - especially Nina and the absolutely adorable Sunshine!
Overall 3.5 stars from me. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an advance copy of this e-book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read and found it to be emotional and engaging. Chrissie and Stu have a wonderful story to tell that is full of warmth, love, happiness and pain. I was immersed from start to finish. This also had scenes set around where I live which I very much enjoyed.

Hmm, rather a lot going on here. I did enjoy this easy to read book, but was left feeling that too many disparate issues and characters had been packed in.

I really enjoyed Jane Sanderson’s previous novel, Mix Tape, so was keen to read Waiting for Sunshine. Chrissie and Stuart are members of a successful rock band and have a good life, but long for a child of their own. They are in the process of adopting and finding it very stressful. They have been disappointed when previous attempts fell through, but now their adoption of three-year-old Sunshine looks like it might finally go ahead. Sunshine is a delightful child, but there is a mystery surrounding her past and how she came to be put up for adoption that is slowly revealed as the story progresses.
The characters are well written and believable, but I thought Chrissie’s behaviour was a bit unreasonable and rather irritating at certain points in the story. In the second half of the book, family secrets are revealed that change everything she previously believed to be true, and she has a lot to come to terms with. The ending is satisfying as it ties up all the loose ends. I liked the musical references, especially Sunshine’s favourite Beatles’ song. I enjoyed Waiting for Sunshine, and will definitely look out for other books by this author. Thanks to Penguin and NetGalley for a digital copy to review.

I both loved and hated this story at the same time.

Chrissie and Stuart are lucky enough to be chosen as adoptive parents however they get a little more then they bargained for when Sunshine arrives. Along with this Chrissie changes and I really came to dislike her as a character which is a shame as it had the potential to be a beautiful story.

A really enjoyable book that opened up my eyes to the world of adoption. I really loved the characters in the story, especially the wonderful, fun little 3 year old called Sunshine! There are plenty of twists and turns in the book, including the revealing of long buried family secrets.

I would recommend this book to anyone, especially those looking for a story showing some wonderful relationships, such as Chrissie and Stu had.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest opinion, which is what I have given.

Chrissie and Stu are married rockstars who have enjoyed an artisitic and bohemian lifestyle until now. Although they are ready to have a family it doesn't look like it will happen naturally for them, so they start the long, process of applying for adoption.

When they are finally approved to adopt three year old foundling Sunshine it looks as though their dreams have come true.

However it seems that there is more to little Sunny's past than they realise and, when a stranger drops off mysterious gifts addressed to her and starts to follow them, things start to get a little sinister... How has Sunny been found? where has the breach of information come from? Is the child in danger? A compelling story, which becomes not only about Sunshine's background but also forces Chrissie to examine her own past.

Wow what a fantastic read, This story had me gripped from the first page, it starts with Chrissie and Stuart finally getting a chance to adopt a longed for child and they instantly connect and fall in love with Sunshine ,but things don't go smoothly. There are lots of twists to the story and not just about Sunshine but also family secrets that eventually come to light which could tear the family apart. I really enjoyed this book and thoroughly recommend it

I found the two story lines here generally engaging; Sunshine’s adoption and the mysterious backstory was interesting and tautly presented. And I liked the dysfunctional family drama of the Stevensons.
However I genuinely disliked the character of Chrissie, so that was odd, given that’s she’s the ‘heroine’. I found her bratty and privileged and arrogant, and anyone she was mean to, I found myself sympathising with- against the authorial intent I’m sure :)
Also I couldn’t understand why Stuart had to be American; there seemed so little payoff in that, so it seemed like just a random pointless addition.

I loved this book, the journey of finding Sunshine was a delight. to read. I found that the more the story developed the quicker I needed to read it. I loved how the characters were written and felt an instant warming towards them - I felt very invested in the whole process and loved Sunshine's little ways. A brilliant read.

An intriguing concept for a book and I couldn’t put it down.

It is so emotionally involving and enjoyable.

I love reading about the relationships between people and this is a really good example.

This was another book I had mixed feelings about, it seems to be a trend recently!

I really enjoyed the beginning and loved the characters of both Chrissie and Stu, musicians and members of a successful band, they had a good life and there was a laid back, happy vibe with the story and their relationship, even though they were looking to adopt and it was a bit stressful.

But then they finally were in line to adopt a 3-year old called Sunshine, who was a real little character, but she did come with baggage that slowly revealed itself as the story went on. Chrissie changed because of certain circumstances, became very paranoid, and her character started to really irritate me with reactions to situations.

The story sort of took a turn in the second half and lots of things were happening, along with plenty of secrets being revealed. There were some really great characters in the story, Sunshine and Nina being my favourite, but also some really irritating ones like Chrissie and her mother, Diana. An enjoyable read overall.
