Thank you so much to net galley for sending me a copy of this book! I loved this idea but this book was so idiotic and had nothing good about it unfortunately.
I just could not connect with this one. The characters were very unlikeable and the story just didn't hold my interest.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the read
A perfectly creepy insight into the mind of a psychopath.
I loved the way this book was written and devoured it in one sitting.
Plenty of twists and turns and more ups and downs than a rollercoaster.
Suspense and intrigue a plenty with a smidge of blood lust and murder thrown in.
Highly recommended 5 stars from me.
I was under no illusion that I would like the narrator but I truly hated reading his thoughts. The element of music added to this book made it bearable but all in all it was not a satisfying book for me.
While I kind of tuned in and out of the writing style of this one I enjoyed it especially the ending/last 25%. It seemed like the author was writing as a combination of what they thought a killer’s inner dialogue sounds like and American Psycho which worked for me during some parts and not others. However, the top 40 songs/kills was original and I did really like that. Jez was a very overly sexual which annoyed me a little bit but also seemed realistic to actual killers. It was his weakness (besides the actual killings) which was I think what made the ending so good in my opinion. Maxine, his overbearing and clueless wife, was a bit dull and nagging, however that’s exactly how Jez saw her too and we were both off base. He mentions her stalking tendencies multiple times throughout which seems like he just hates his wife but it’s fun to see how it plays out
It felt like a "documentary-style" narration of the life and inner thoughts of a psychopath. Overall interesting, I thought the music component made this book more interesting.
Thanks for the opportunity to read this ARC.
3.25/5 stars
The Psychopath by AM Edwards is a first-person narration of a serial killer - his thoughts and feelings (or lack thereof) as he navigates his first murder all the way up to the present day.
From my recollection, this is the first book I've read where the main character is TRULY unlikeable. It was a very interesting reading experience! I found myself with my jaw dropped at some of Jeremy's innermost thoughts. I think the author clearly captured a truly un-empathetic psychopath in Jeremy. Where this book slightly lacked for me was the declarative nature of the narration at times (how many times does he call himself a psychopath) and I think the twist at the end was a little rushed. I think this book would have been even better with a dual POV with his wife!

Unfortunately, I didn’t end up finishing this book completely. I made it through most of the book but I didn’t particularly like the writing style. I don’t know if I continue to want books like this, or if I’m choosing the wrong ones just in general. But this was a no for me.
I had a difficult time getting into this book. First of all, I think I was hoping for a Dexter kind of lovable psychopath and this killer, Jez, is not a Dexter. He is kind of a jerk who is a murderer/sex starved cheating (and married) professor.

I couldn't get into this book - it did not hold my interest. I tried several times but I just couldn't get through but a couple of chapters.
I went to read this and it was not on my kindle, even though I downloaded it right away. Not sure what happened but I was looking forward to reading this one.
The title of this book grabbed me right away-who doesn't want to read about a psychopath right? It could be fascinating to see the inner workings of such a person. But what indeed makes one a psycho? Is it a person who thinks that they are brilliant, better than others and might kill someone annoying? Or how about someone who has sex at any opportunity? The main character fits these, but I found myself not really caring about him. Should a psychopath be lovable, or at least a little bit likeable? Perhaps I'll write a book called The Loveable Psychopath. There was an attempt at a twist ending, but I saw it a mile away, and I was disappointed at the outcome of a few characters. I'd give this 3.5 stars if I were able, and with a few changes at the end it could have been an 8. I also would have made the main character more likeable, and interesting because his job also seemed boring.
Not for me. Didn't hold my interest at all. I had such high hopes as I do love a good psychopath. Alas, this just didn't pull me in.
3 stars.
This was just OK for me. I felt like we were supposed to like jez despite his psychopathic tenancies but I just couldnt get there. He was too self indulgent. Which I understand was the point but when I think of characters like Hannibal, I don't feel the same amount of connection. I will say the ending was both expected and unexpected. I was convinced I knew what was happening but those last couple pages. Nope! I can't say more than that for spoilers,
The Psychopath was definitely a different type of read for me. It did keep my interest but it wasn’t nearly as complex as I had hoped and I the ending was a bit predictable. Overall it was just ok to me.

This book was ok, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped though. Still worth a read, but not a favourite and wouldn't reread it
I DNF'ed this one at rougly 20%. Usually, I try to stick to a book for longer than that, but the story didn't work out for me and the charakters weren't connecting with me at all.
After attempting this book twice I have finally finished it. This was a real struggle but I felt I owed it to the author. Being in the head of this psychopath has given me a headache. The belittling of women to further their careers was uncomfortable to read. The last 10% of this book was better but as for the rest forget it. This is the lowest score I have ever given for a book. I will not be posting this review on any platforms.
This ended up being just okay... There was SOOOOOOO much cheating, did we really need that much adultery to make a point? Also, quite a few points about women offering themselves to further their career. Again, did that add anything to the narrative? I will say I enjoyed that it was from the perspective of the killer and it's interesting to be in their head and hear how they ration their killings and especially for Jez who is trying to determine if he's a psychopath or not. I was interested in what was happening but not really feeling super engrossed in the story. Until the last 10% of the book. I had a feeling I knew what was happening but seeing it play out was so satisfying. I wish we would've gotten more on that storyline but Jez tapped out so quick!

My first DNF of 2022 unfortunately. I tried 2 different times to get involved with this and it just wasn't working for me. The premise sounds interesting, but I shouldn't have to work this hard to make connections or to really get into a story.
Sorry.
