I wondered how this robin hood retelling would be different and truly I got some surprises. John Howard is not only believable but also humane, I almost immediately started to hate other characters.
His enemies though need more working on. They were not only easy read but extremely fickle.
A good book.
Sadly not really my type of book, although it was nice to have a new take on the Robin Hood mythology. I thought the writing and characters needed some work, it was a quick light read, but needs to be more for me.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
Found this Robin Hood retelling very good. Quite frankly at least in my opinion there's not enough Robin Hood retellings in YA. We need more. Though this retelling is at a later time than
Writing style is a little weak (majority is dialogue), but the story is fun and well-developed.
Villains are super obvious- could have done with some nuance and humanizing of the villains.
Otherwise, this is a quick, fun read for when you're craving Tudor England.
Wow! Having previously had very little knowledge about the way of life in medieval London, John Howard has not only taken me through a rollercoaster of emotions but also brought the history of the times alive.
When a young, important John Howard first comes on to the scene, it is hard to imagine where the book will head due to the vast social differences between the rich and poor. The way in which John is outlawed is told in such a way to make any reader feel his fire and makes you keep reading, to settle not only John’s, but your own personal desire for revenge!
The heroes and villains of different ages, backgrounds and personal motives all intertwine perfectly and you feel the whole of London if not the whole the country falls in to one of these categories adding to the drama and suspense throughout. I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the next instalment of the series.
