This book was just…I’m not sure how to properly put it into words. It was hilarious at times, slightly confusing at other times. It was relatable in some scenes, and totally out of the park in other scenes. But it’s safe to say I loved it! It was wild from start to finish. I enjoyed the journey we took with Lucy, which was a journey of self discovery of herself as well. It was intriguing and definitely kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what craziness was going to happen next. And then the ending, it came full circle and was better than I ever expected. Read this book and you will have a new perspective on life afterwards, I promise.
Am I Allergic to Men? Is a funny, women’s fiction story about the importance of being true to yourself and how great it is to have sisters in your life.
Lucy is nearing 30 and after an unfortunate accident, ends up with amnesia and thinks she is still 17. As she tries to piece together who she has been for the last 10+ years, her family and friends - and especially her four older sisters - are there to support her along the way.
I really enjoyed the British slang and humor throughout the book. And while I couldn’t relate much to Lucy (I’m a very stereotypical oldest sister, ha), I think she was a great character and a lovely sister and friend.
When I started reading, I didn’t realize that this book was part of a series, but definitely plan to go back and read the earlier books!
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture, and Kristen Bailey for the advanced copy of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily, and all opinions are my own.
This book is filled with love for family. The relationships between the sisters was hands down my favorite part of this book. I haven’t read the other books from this series yet but now I want to!
#AmIAllergictoMen by Kristen Bailey is the 5th novel in the Callaghan Sisters Series. This novel follows the youngest sister Lucy in her quest to find who she is following an accident that results in Amnesia. In order to find out who she is in the present day she must work through her past including meeting old friends and lovers and moving back in with her family.
A fun and entertaining read, that may be a little over the top but still worth a read.
Thank you #Netgallery and the Publisher for this Arc in exchange for a review.
While the premise of this book was promising, I just couldn't get into it. Perhaps I would have felt differently had I known it was part of a series and had the opportunity to get to know the author's writing style. The backstory in this book was enough to help me understand each character, but again, the writing style threw me off.
It doesn't help at all that I really didn't enjoy the main character. Lucy wasn't the most likeable heroine; she reminded me a bit of Rebecca Bloomwood from Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic series. A lot of people find these characters charming and downright silly, but I tend to just find them and their antics annoying and obnoxious. It's hard to like a book when you can't connect witht he protagonist!
There were some hilarious moments, but what I enjoyed most about the book was the depiction of Lucy's relationship with her sisters. It seemed realistic and authentic, even when the characters themselves did not.
I definitely should have read more about this book before diving in, and that probably would have saved me a lot of disappointment. I think this author has a lot of potential talent, but I must have jumped on board too late in the series to really see that.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was an adorable and funny story. Lucy wakes up from a coma and believes she is 17 and its 2009 (oh to go back to those days!). In order to get her memory back, she has to track down exes to see what has happened in the past decade. I really liked Lucy, but some of the plot points throughout were a bit of a stretch for me.
Follow up to the series which i have enjoyed , i read this book in a matter of days fun book quick read.
This is a follow up from the other sisters stories from Kirsten Bailey.
Lucy is probably the most lively sister and I think this book reflects it. It was fast paced and the character development was good, it was nice to see things following through from other books too,
It was a light and easy read but with some deeper topics. I would recommend this book if you enjoyed the other Kirsten Bailey books.
I like the writing style as it is easy to read.
Love, love , loved this! I have read each of the books following the ups and downs and the utter hilarious antics of the Callaghan sisters and even though I've thoroughly enjoyed each one, this one is my favourite. I knew Lucy's story would be full of laughs and I wasn't wrong. I laughed out loud so many times, I love Lucy and her quick wit.
I enjoyed the story line of this book and adore the relationship of the family and the closeness of the sisters. I feel like I know them all, I want them to be my sisters, there'd never be a dull moment that's for sure. I'm so glad I found these books as they've given me laughter and made me smile at times I have needed it. To be able to write great books and make people cry with laughter is an amazing thing and I can't wait to read more from Kristen. I'd give this way more than 5 stars if I could.
As the name was really interesting I thought the book would be more. It's not bad, I liked the book. But the spark between the characters, that didn't happen. I was not dying to come back to read where I left off.
I enjoyed this story a lot. However, I needed to give it a 4 star rating because it is not a romance. It is more of women’s fiction for me. It does not have the lovey-dovey between couples that I was expecting. Nevertheless, I like this story. I could read the other novels by Kristen Bailey since Lucy’s other sisters seem interesting. If you like women’s fiction and Sophie Kinsella’s novels then this is for you.
This book was so so so cute! The relationship between the sisters is so amazingly realistic. As someone who has two sisters myself it was so nice to read something that felt like home. This book was such a compelling story about life and all the crazy places that it takes us. This was my first book by Kristen Bailey book and I can not wait to read more. She is a true talent.
I really wanted to like this book, the title and premise are cute. I did not enjoy the writing style and was actually very hard to get through. I will say I did appreciate the cursing and thought that made the book fun. Lucy also was the el reflect balance of likeable but real. I do not think I’d recommend this to a friend but if they seemed I retested in it I’d tell them to give it a go.
We finally reach the end of the story of the Callaghan sisters. It has been full of ups and down, laughs and tears and now it is the turn of the youngest sister Lucy.
Lucy, brash, bold, fun and a free spirit, loses her memory in an accident, Cue funny scenes and tender moments with the sisters to try to help Lucy to regain her memory and reunite with her uniquely named cat.
Funny from the beginning, with heartfelt moments and a superb epilogue to finish the story of the Callaghan's.
The book can be read as a standalone, but it makes more sense to read the previous books about the sisters first.
An warm, funny, enjoyable read., I look forward to Kristen's next novels.
Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for the ARC of this book.
Lucy is a young woman who hits her head and loses her memory. As she tries to remember what's missing, she becomes worryingly aware that there have been a LOT of men in her life and starts to wonder what it is about her that means she just can't tie one down...
This book had a great premise, and the start was good. However, I found Lucy unbearably annoying and really struggled to care about her or her problems as a result. A lot of the comedy I didn't find funny, and it felt like the book was trying too hard to be labelled as "laugh out loud". By the end, I really didn't have any interest in how everything was going to be resolved, I just wanted it finished! Unfortunately, the book was not my cup of tea.
I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I didn't love this. I don't get what if anything the title had to do with the plot. It had potential to be great and there were nice moments but overall it wasn't for me.
The title was intriguing which was what drew me in. However, I did not find it as un-put-downable as others were saying. Lucy is a force tobe reckon with, but I was unable to get into it. The book was pitched as a romance but I could not find it at all.
A fun, quick, cheeky read. I had not read the other books in this series but found this to be easy to follow as a stand alone.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
Am I Allergic to Men is the 5th book in a series. I did not read the previous books, but I don't feel like I missed any major plot points (I assume that the other books are about the main character Lucy's sisters... as she has many.) I think that this book was hyped up a bit too much - but it was a fun beach read during my annual trip to Jamaica.
Lucy gets in an accident while riding a bike to get to a job where she will perform as the princess Elsa. When she wakes up in the hospital after having been in a coma, she can't remember the last 10 years and still thinks she is 17. Her phone has a lot of dick pics in it and she is curious why she wasn't married. She ends up tracking them down and trying to find out why there's been no commitment - is she allergic to men? All the while rediscovering herself.
To be quite honest I am not sure I laughed out loud at all, but it was a fun story and you couldn't help but root for Lucy to get her memory back and hopefully find a decent man! (At first I was a bit worried the story may hit too close to home.) The book is also based in the UK so maybe some of the humor was over my head.
I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.
The front cover appealed to me and this is the first time I am reading a book written by this author. Though the book is supposedly a funny romantic novel, this wasn't my cup of tea.
Lucy is one of the Callaghan sisters. She gets hits by a bus and then have lost her memory, she is allergic to men and her cat despises her. With the help of her sisters, she tries to regain a memory. While trying to work out a memory, she discovers a note with Oscar and the date 9th February--is there a significance to that name?
Let's start with the good ones--the writing was really good and I do like the author's style of writing--it was truly engaging. But here's the thing--the story was too bland for me. I felt like I was watching this soap opera on the TV with baseless plot, too much dialogue that kept me distracted and there were some parts in the story that I was left a bit confused. Nonetheless, despite the negativity, there were some funny parts in the book that will make the reader laugh out loud.
For ones who enjoy cheesy romance with unrealistic plot, then this book is one for you. Worth 2.5 starts in my opinion.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
