Such a great read that always had you guessing throughout. I've read several books from this author and I will continue to buy her books. I highly recommend this book. Its so addicive.
WHOA!! What on Earth have I just read??!! My brain feels like it’s just done it’s own workout at the gym and now my head aches!!
This is a crime thriller like no other crime thriller that I’ve ever read because this one involves time travel and time loops. I love books that involve time travel because it absolutely fascinates me and makes it seem that anything could be possible; and this book carries that same premise of possibility.
The book opens with Jen waiting up for her son Todd to return home from a night out on the night that the clocks go back. As she’s watching through the window she witnesses Todd commit a brutal murder of a stranger.
The next morning she wakes to find that it’s the day before the murder and so she continues to go back in time every time she wakes, going back in days, weeks, months and decades searching for answers and piecing together how this horrific event came to pass. Can she stop the murder before it happens?
Jen relives her life backwards and realisation dawns on her that she has previously witnessed things that she never knew the significance of. Things that she can now fully witness with the unique hindsight of the future as a reference.
This is a superbly plotted and complex story full of twists and mind blowing turns. Extremely clever and highly original - I defy you not to be reeling after you’ve read this!
Fantastic physiological thriller kept me up guessing all night I could not put this book down I love a good thriller that keeps you turning the pages so fast paced an enjoyable read
I really struggled with this book overall. The writing was fine and the initial set up was good but i didn't love how it continued the story. The action was written weirdly and i really struggled to connect with and focus on the characters. This had so much potential but really failed to deliver for me.
I struggled a little with the one maybe because this isn't the type of genre I normally read.
I found it took alot of thinking and concenrtration to work out at what point of time we were in. The story shows a mum who sees her son commit murder and then wakes up and has gone back in time prior to the murder and then wakes up even earlier in time each day to try and work out the events leading upto the murder.
I didn't actually finish this book either as although I did give it a chance and kept perservering I just couldn't find it in me to finish it.
I love a good time loop plot, and boy is this a good time loop plot! I couldn’t put it down, absolutely gripping and thrilling.
Very clever book, unique concept and must have taken a long time to weave all the plot points together. I found the main character a little grating at times but the plot was gripping so it didn't really matter. Great book.
This is an unusual type of mystery. The concept of time travel was a new concept in a thriller. The twists in this book were so clever and unique. Fantastic
I loved this really clever novel, focusing on Jen, her husband Kelly and their son Todd. Although as a massive Stereophonics fan all I could picture in my head was Kelly Jones every time I saw Kelly's name!!
Jen is waiting for Todd to return home one night from a night out when she witnesses a terrible crime, and her son is the perpetrator. Whatever can have possessed him to do such a thing? She and Kelly support Todd when he is arrested and taken to the station for questioning, but they have no choice but to return home whilst the police continue their work.
She barely gets through the rest of the night, but when she awakes it is the previous day, the incident hasn't happened. and neither Kelly nor Todd have any idea of what she is talking about when she tentatively broaches the subject - although she isn't explicit as she understands something strange is going on.
The following day she awakes dreading the day ahead, and then she realises it is the day before, the day before and Jen realises that she could have the possibility to change the future. Whether she succeeds or not I can't possibly say. You need to discover the novel for yourself.
This is a fabulous read and highly recommended.
It has taken me a while to get to Wrong Place, Wrong Time and yet I"ve been desperate to read it. The concept is just brilliant and the hype around the book is well-founded. A unique concept pulled off with Gillian McAllister's usual ease and style.
I've been in such a reading and review writing slump, and am so behind with everything, but I bloody loved this! 😍
I'm actually abroad, but have been endlessly annoying my family with the plot and characters from this book, instead of relaxing, which is a sure sign it sank its claws into my skin ha ha.
I did figure something out, but I didn't care, I loved the characters, their relationships and the plot! Please, please make a film or TV series about this!
Well that was different!
The book starts with the crime taking place, then instead of going forwards, through the inevitable police investigation / trial, the book instead goes backwards as mum Jen relives the days, months and years leading up to that fateful day to see just what went wrong.
Such an original idea for a thriller and it worked so well. It was fascinating to go back with Jen and unpick seemingly ‘normal’ moments that at the time she ignored but once she got given the chance to relive it, noticed clues that pointed to why her son did what he did.
There were plenty of twists, which I did guess early on but it didn’t ruin the story for me. It constantly keeps you guessing from each chapter and I really enjoyed how it all wrapped up at the end, along with the epilogue!
It took me a little while to wrap my head around the backwards retelling of this tale, but once I did I couldn't stop reading. Compelling and brilliant, McAllister has penned another achingly good tale!
Unfortunately not for me. Found it slow and boring. Really thought I would, love it after hearing great reviews but guess I am in the minority on this one.
A time loop novel that I really wasn't expecting as I went into this blind. I'm not usually a fan of these kinds of novels, but I really enjoyed this exploration and experiencing Jen's confusion with her and trying to work out what she is being told about each time period she's gone back to. An enjoyable read and the ending made me smile.
Wrong Place Wrong Time I thought was a crime novel however as soon as I started reading and realised that there was a time loop I was hooked. A great story about the butterfly effect and a Mother's love for her son as she desperately tries to stop him from murdering a man.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the novel in exchange for an honest review.
Excellent read. Great story line and thoroughly enjoyed the whole premise of the story. Highly recommended.
The first thing to say about this book is: wow! I am blown away with the planning of this book.
Secondly, do not let the whole "time travel" thing put you off. That is the whole reason I left this book on my shelf for SO long, thinking that I wouldn't be in the mood for a book with a sci-fi slant. How wrong was I? Although our main character is indeed stuck in a time loop, it doesn't affect the feel of the book as it is very much a mystery thriller but very cleverly written in reverse. Kind of. I very much wish I had read this book as soon as it landed on my virtual shelf and am SO impressed with Gillian McAllister's ability to write this book, keeping all the facts in order and lined up despite working in the opposite direction to the way this kind of book usually works.
Jen and Kelly have a great relationship. They met when Kelly arrived at Jen's father's law firm, him touting for business as a painter and decorator. Kelly is mega chilled, so laid back he's horizontal, as the saying goes. Jen is the super organised one, the disciplinarian who makes sure their 18 year old son Todd knows right from wrong and is one of the nice guys. It is therefore a major shock when Jen watches as her son comes home from a night out, is approached by an older guy. Todd turns and stabs him to death outside their family home. He's arrested and taken to the police station where he's kept for questioning. Jen and Kelly have no choice but to return home, shocked and tired, leaving Todd to the consequences of his actions. Or do they?
Jen wakes up the next morning - except it's not the next morning, it's the day before. Once Jen can compute in her mind what's going on, she realises she's been sent back in a time loop in an attempt to put things right for her son and change his future.
It's a few days since I completed this book and I am still totally overwhelmed at how an author can so accurately write this storyline. Every detail was spot on in how it fitted with other facts in the book later on (or earlier, depending on how you look at it). The characters are fleshed out perfectly at the various ages they would have been given the change in period. It's all just SO DARNED CLEVER and the conclusion to the book was an absolute pleasure after reading the challenges Jen and Kelly had to face along the way. I can honestly say I have never read a book like this before and Gillian has set the bar so high if any other author wants to try a similar theme for their next book.
A crime thriller with a twist from Gillian McAllister!
Jen watches in horror from her window as her teenage son Todd murders someone in the street. Devasted and guilt-riddled over what made her lovely little boy carry out something so evil, she looks into their family’s past to find out where is all went wrong.
This is an intriging and original time-loop plot, cleverly constructed and utterly addictive.
Amazing, telling a story backwards! This book has everything and kept me on tenterhooks- i struggled to put it down - crime, love, fear and finally peace, I LOVED IT!
