Gillian does it again!
Totally unputdownable (is that a word?!)
This was a really well written book and had me totally on the edge of my seat a few times. It was very well written and the story flowed well and I didn't want it to end. Highly recommend.

Now this really is Gillian Mcallister at her very best. The concept of this story is a real brain squeezer. I have no idea how you come up with an idea for a story format like this, except I do as she explains how she came up with the idea at the end of the book!

It is a simple and at the same time complex format. Jen witnesses her teenage son stab another man meters from their front door in the early hours of the morning. The police are called and following some hours at the police station, on getting home going to sleep, Jen wakes up the day before the stabbing. Was it a dream or is there a bigger reason for this.

You then see Jen trailing back through time trying to figure out why she is reliving these selected dates and see if there is something she can do that will mean her son doesn’t end up stabbing this stranger.

There are a few twists as always in this and not ones you see coming. I really enjoyed this book, I read 2/3 of this on a very long train journey and it took my mind off the stress of cancelled trains and cramped conditions. Thank you to Netgalley for this advance free copy.

Really excellent book. Original premise told from different timelines. Twists and turns that I didn't see coming.

Would really recommend.

A lot can change in a tick of a clock. One minute Jen is anxiously awaiting her son's return home, the next minute she sees him safe and sound. The next minute her son is being approached by a stranger then a few minutes later one of them is dead. Her son's childhood is lost before her very eyes and she does not know what to do to help him. The next morning she is determined to help her son out of this mess..but when she goes downstairs to start phoning round solicitors nothing has happened as it's the day before?!

Today I am reviewing a little known book you are doubtful to have heard of..who am I kidding this book has been everywhere and I don't know how I have not read it sooner. Now this is not a book that you can read with any sort of distractions as important details and clues are literally on every page masterfully woven into the complex story. I am a huge fan of time travel and time loop stories and I have never seen one where the story is told in this way. Kudos to Gillian McAllister for telling an intricately plotted story backwards as it was impressively done. Equally impressive was how McAllister provided heart to the story rather than just relying on a sci fi style gimmick. I found it especially difficult at times to see the drama play out as a mother to teen boys. Wrong Place Wrong Time is a slick thriller but at its core is a message that will resonate with most people in that life is short and as such you should be present for your own life.

Wow! What a ride!

I love a good thriller - but to read one backwards? You’d never think it’d be possible - well I’m telling you it is!

I was so engrossed in the story of Jen, Kelly and Todd that I struggled to put it down. The timeline was so clever and each chapter linked into another part of the story.

I loved the interspersed parts which included Ryan - they really helped gel the whole thing together.

Clever writing, an imaginative addictive plot and intricate characters made for an amazing read!

What a fantastic read! Absolutely loved everything about this book, the characters, the writing and most importantly the unique storyline. Definitely the best I've read in a while and my favourite Gillian McAllister so far.

Highly recommended and well worth the 5 stars.

Thank you Netgalley.

I've come to realise that sadly, this author is just not for me! I've read a few now, the first rating highly but since then I'm just not enjoying them or engaging with them at all.

I tried, really tried to get into this one but the jumping timelines and background detailing felt exhausting, my brain felt like it was being jumbled constantly which stopped any enjoyment of the actual storyline. By 40% I couldn't actually relay back what had happened. Complete brain fog.

So my rating is purely based on the fact that what I did read my brain didn't!

Thanks to netgalley and Penguin Michael Joseph UK for the ARC.

An intriguing premise with an emotional core. A page-turning, unpredictable, brilliant read from a stellar author.

Amazing take on a suspense story. Such a fascinating way to tell the story.
The main character starts by seeing her son commit a murder…. Then she gets stuck in time loop, don’t worry it’s not sci fi it really is thriller / murder mystery with a sci fi way of getting to the truth.
I couldn’t put this down with each step back in time I wanted more information and couldn’t see how it would end. I could figure out some of the twists that were coming but the actual plot, characters, and finale to it all was perfection

Book Review
Wrong Place Wrong Time
By Gillian McAllister

Main Characters: Jen, Kelly, Todd
I was drawn into this book right from the beginning. It had a strong writer’s voice, and a good, solid, intriguing plot, which at the beginning is very promising.
If I’m honest, I did find myself growing less keen to continue reading during this book, - without too many spoilers, much of this book revolves around a ‘time-loop’, where, as the plot progresses forward, the ‘minus days’ of the main character, Jen, progresses backwards in time, during which the main character who is stuck in the time-loop, is trying to figure out how to stop the time-loop, and ultimately, stop the crime (murder) from taking place, in the present day, which Jen has witnessed, and seen play out. However, the further backwards in ‘minus days’ Jen travels, whatever the reverse time-leap, she doesn’t seem to be getting anywhere, with, seemingly, no significance to the ‘minus days’ she progresses through, which I felt was rather drawn out; not really getting anywhere. This is where I found my interest and my ‘want’ to continue reading, also progressively lacking. However, as the end of the book approaches, I found myself being drawn back in, - which is where it all starts to come together, and slotting into place, - and in doing so, all of the seemingly insignificance which came before, starts revealing itself as becoming significant, and all start to fit together and make sense! So, I would say that as the plot concludes, it isn’t just Jen, the main character, who experiences all of the realization, as she figures out just what she is supposed to, - but I myself, the reader, does too! – So the reader is played, also, right to the end! Therefore, this book is very cleverly written, in this respect. There are also some surprising twists along the way too, which the reader doesn’t see coming.
Overall, this was a good read, which did keep me reading, through to the end.
My Scores (1 – 5) ((1 = lowest, 5 = highest))
Plot: 3
Ease Of Reading: 3
Overall: 3

Loved this! A murder mystery with a time travel twist, I was hooked from the first page. Despite moving backwards in time, the story was easy to follow and I quickly became invested in the characters.

Such a clever book - I’m only sorry it took me so long to get round to reading it.

As the clocks go back, Jen sees her son returning home … and committing a terrible crime. But after this evening plays out, nothing is the same as she keeps waking up further and further into the past, each occasion apparently having some significance to what occurred that October evening.

Though it feels weird at first stick with it. A brilliant backwards narrative emerges shining an intriguing light on all Jen’s significant relationships. A very engaging, enjoyable and thought provoking story that I now want to tell others about

I was so excited to read this book, as I love books that play with timelines and which fit together neatly. This one was very satisfying in that respect - and I didn't see the twist/surprise/connections coming until we were almost there. I'm already a fan of Gillian McAllister, but will now go and read her back-catalogue!

I loved the concept and I thought it was really well done!

It had me gripped from start to finish. I probably would have read the book in one go if not for other distractions.

I would definitely recommend it!

Wrong Place Wrong Time is easily my book of the year.

It’s hard to write something that’s never been done. Time travel has been done before, but not like this. It’s something completely and utterly original and I don’t think I’ll stop talking about it… ever!

Gillian has taken a risk, a huge leap in the creation of this book which is so unlike her others. But it’s a risk that has absolutely paid off; I have never read anything quite like this before and I’m buzzing from such a thrilling story of time loops, the power of love in so many forms and of just how much it felt like a big puzzle we had to solve alongside Jen. I don’t think I’ve ever loved a character as much as I loved her, and joining her on this mission to find the truth and right some wrongs has been one of the most exhilarating rides of my life. A true gem of a book. Something I will never forget!

Wrong Place Wrong Time ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

On a seemingly ordinary day in October Jen witnesses her 18 year old son stab a man to death outside their house.

The catastrophic event somehow creates a time loop with Jen moving back through time, presumably to put a stop to the murder from ever happening.

I won’t say too much but my goodness this is a clever book!! Although a bit confusing at times (tell me a time travel book which isn’t!?) the big reveal is definitely worth waiting for and the loved the final twist.

Could well be in line for my favourite thriller of the year!
