This book was amazing. I loved the characters and families. This book is happy and sad at the same time. A great historical saga
A great host of characters, really enjoyed getting to know them all and finding out their stories. Am trying to add more wartime fiction in to my reading.
2.5
I am so disappointed with this book. It sounded like it would be my ideal read but in reality I found it really long and drawn out. I was just a bit bored for quite a bit of it. Sophie irritated me so much. She was so judgemental and rude at times. I couldn't warm to her at all. I was glad when I eventually finished the book. Definitely not the most memorable historical fiction book I've read.
Loved loved loved this book, the story is wonderful and I loved the 3 girls, who all had there own story to tell, which came together nicely.
The story is set in 1944, so if you loved a good ww2 story then this is for you
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
The story is set in 1944, Stockport, of three friends. Each one has their own story
It seems like Alice’s living a happy married life, but in actual fact her marriage isn’t what it appears. She’s taking care of the shop of her husband as he’s at war. Will meeting Louis from Guernsey who arrives with twins Phillip and Grabriela, change things in her life?
Sophie who is a heir is looking forward to getting married, she just wishes her mother approved, as she’s worried that the guy is marrying her as she’s got money, whereas Sophie is doing it as she’s in love. So, is her mother right in not being happy of her nuptials?
Then there’s Emily, who’s fed up of being made to feel bad for being their single friend. She does want to get married, but, it’s just that she’s in no hurry. Then she meets.Marco, who is Italian and Emily realises that they can’t have any life together as he won’t be welcome by her family.
It was interesting to read about the characters and their lives, which do run smoothly. I felt like I was there living their lives with them.
There was moment of happiness and also sad parts too.
If you love reading about WW2 you’ll love this book.
I recommend this book.
A great read, I enjoyed the diverse set of characters. A story of friendships and relationships, I really hope there will be a follow up, I want to know what happens next.
Wow what a book. I am still sat thinking about this book even though I finished it a few days ago. I cannot write a review to do this book justice. I was hooked from the first page. The writing is superb and enthralling and overall, I just loved this book.
I have loved this book it's story and the characters go so well together which helps the reader to enjoy the book. This book will draw you in and give you the feeling that you are with the girls in their daily lives.Brilliant book loved it 5*
Friends Alice, Emily and Sophie are always there for each other, Alice the peacekeeper is married to Greg who has joined up which leaves Alice to run the shop owned by his mother who has passed away. During this time Alice is asked to take in row evacuee children, assist by Louis who she comes to like, where will this lead?
Emily is the quiet one, a school teacher who becomes friendly with one of the Italian men from the prison camp when she bumps into him (quite literally) in a shop. Emily know she has feelings for him but is put off by the knowledge that some of the villagers, including her own parents view any of the men from the camp in a bad light. Will she allow this bias to put her off!
Sophie helps run the hat factory with her mother after her father died. Sophie is planning to marry Tony who her mother is not keen on. This may come between them, especially when her mother and Alice overhear Tony’s family discussing what plans he has for the factory.
Will they be as understanding of each other as things develop.
As I live in Stockport, this title attracted me first of all.
This new saga by Lilly Robbins is an excellent read and I definitely recommend you give it a try.
Follow the girls through sorrow and read about the loyalty and strength they show.
Thanks to#NetGalley for the advance copy in return for an honest review
1944 the Stockport girls, Sophie Morley, Alice Fairclough, Emily Browne all have a story to be told as we join them in Stockport in Cheshire, the war is still on going , this book was amazing, I loved reading about all the characters and their families and its far from plain sailing. The author has told yet another enchanting read that readers will love you just feel like your in there with them. I'm not giving any details away but just to be prepared for a lot of happy and sorrow all rolled into one. I highly recommend it to all saga readers out there. got my five star ratings. I again loved it
