I found this book to be decent, although it had a slow start. It employs multiple points of view, which adds depth to the narrative. While the pace picks up towards the end and there's an unexpected plot twist, I felt somewhat let down by it.
The story follows Denise, Petra, and Anna, all experiencing romantic misfortunes, as they venture into the world of online dating. They each become enamored with Dr. David Kingfisher after a single message, only to discover they're all dating the same man. Their realization comes when they see a Facebook post asking for information about David's whereabouts. Despite never meeting him in person and lending him money, David vanishes.
Determined to find him and reclaim their money, the women join forces. Their pursuit takes a dark turn when one of them is found dead. What follows are a series of bizarre events leading to an unbelievable conclusion.
Just Another Liar by Mandy Byatt Narrated by Melissa Woodbridge was a brilliant book and I loved it. This was a book that had me gripped from the beginning till the end especially as it has great twists and turns throughout with a cracking ending! Brilliant! The narrator Melissa was excellent. I highly recommend this audiobook/book.
It took me some time to get into this book, I found that although there were only 3 POVs I struggled to keep up with the names of all the characters, particularly as I listened to the AudioBook. I think there's a lot of surprising parts in this book and a few that actually shocked me (one, early on, was really not in a good way). It's an exciting read, a really interesting story and I absolutely did not see the twist coming at the end!
Overall, a really enjoyable thriller.
An ok read told by the 3 main characters POV . I did find that the author made the plot more complicated and unbelievable than it needed to be which ruined it a bit for me
The narrator was really good and made each of the characters stand out
This was an amazing read. I loved every minute of it and I found this book unpredictable and a roller coaster of a ride with its brilliant twists and turns. I could never work out what was going to happen next. I listened to the audiobook and loved the narrator. She was fantastic at creating each and every distinct voice and at a perfect pace. It was so easy to follow. This book is definitely a really page turner. You could lose track of time reading this book. The storyline was fantastic with so many twists and turns that it kept me on the edge of my seat. I just loved how different the characters were and started to really feel for them. The ending was brilliant but I won't be giving any of that away. This is definitely an author to look out for.
So much praise goes out to the author, narrator and publishers for producing this brilliant and uniquely told story. I will definitely be looking out for more books by this bery talented author.

I didn't download this in time so I waited to get it from my local library. Denise, Petra, and Anna have all met the man of their dreams. They spotted him online and he appears to be the perfect partner. The problem is they've all fallen in love with Dr David Kingfisher. It’s only when Denise becomes suspicious that they find out about each other...
Anna is a teacher who has split with Robbo. Petra is married, but is hurting so goes online for fun. Denise is lonely and looks after her ill mother. I loved the curveballs lobbed by Mandy Byatt; there was certainly no boredom here! The audiobook was narrated by Melissa Woodbridge and listening to it was a terrific decision. I thought it was narrated really well and she brought the perfect amount of verve to the proceedings, adding to the drama and intrigue. Very clever and highly recommended. 😊🤞🎧
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Avon and HarperCollins Audio via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
An ok plot with plenty of red herrings . This book explored how easily manipulated women can be and romance fraud with sensitivity.
Told from the point of view of the 3 main characters Denise, Petra and Anna. It took me a few chapters to get to grips with them but after that I found I was interested in the storyline and invested in each woman’s individual story. The story moved at a steady pace but did stall a little in the middle. There were a few characters to contend with and I went between liking and disliking at every turn. I’m still trying to decide if I actually liked the outcome. I did have my suspicions but not what actually came to be but if I’m honest I think it was a bit of a letdown as it could have gone so many ways. I did enjoy it to that point though. I liked the narrator as I found she held my attention but think it would have added a little more to have different voices for each of the ladies. Worth a listen though…
3.5/5 🌟🌟🌟/🌟
Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review this ARC that was published on the 20th of Jan.
This was a bit of a love-hate for me. I didn’t find any character other than Denise to be at all likeable but it was a really powerfully written book that had me shocked and feeling lots of emotions throughout. I think my biggest issue was the narration, which seemed a little surface level and lacking somehow with it being hard to distinguish between characters at times. I think if I had read this as oppose to listening to it I would have absolutely loved it!
I couldn't settle into the audio narration and so I switched to a physical copy. I found the multiple POVs a bit too similar and it got confusing. However once I switched to a paperback I found the story gripping. A real page turner and the ending was fabulous. I would definitely recommend.
I’ve only recently got into audio books so was so pleased to have been approved for this one.
Anna, Denise and Petra are all lovely and looking for love.
As a last resort they all try online dating, where David seems to be the man of their dreams. Unfortunately they can’t all have him - who will it be? Will they get their happy ending?
The ending of this was so unexpected - usually I have an inkling as to who is the perpetrator but for this one I didn’t have a clue.
I really enjoyed how at the end the characters were linked in more ways than one and the whole story was unravelled.
There were definitely some ‘no!’ moments where I couldn’t believe where the story was going.
I’d definitely listen to another by this author
David Kingfisher seems too good to be true, and when Petra, Denise and Anna all come across him on a dating website, they all begin an online relationship with him, only to find out that he /is/ too good to be true and is just another liar. In trying to hunt him down, the three women find each other instead and set out to uncover the mystery of who he is.
This was a well plotted story with a great "Aha!" conclusion that I hadn't seen coming despite all the clues along the way (possibly because there were so many red herrings scattered throughout.) I have to say though that this must win the award for being the book with the most awful cast of supporting characters that I have ever read - not that they are portrayed badly, just that they are all really despicable and grotesque people! The audiobook narrator did a grand job of voicing them - she made my skin crawl! The story was narrated exceptionally well and really enhanced my enjoyment of the book. I found the story gripping and involving right to the very end.
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the audiobook in return for an honest review.
I really wanted to enjoy Just Another Liar. I was sold on the title, premise and artwork of the book.
Unfortunately, I just found it a “hard listen” as an audiobook. I found the narration quite difficult to follow as the voices of the characters were so similar. I found myself getting quite muddled because I couldn’t distinguish the different women characters. I think I might have found it easier to follow reading a physical book.
I normally finish NetGalley ARCs and audio-ARCs, but because of the narration which muddled me, I stopped listening midway through. Huge HarperCollins UK Audio & Avon Books for making the audiobook available to me for a fair and honest review. Also, huge apologies to the publisher for not finishing the audiobook, I really did want to finish the audiobook but found it too challenging.
I was intrigued by the blurb for this book. It’s an intriguing premise and I thought it started well, but I
lost a little impetus as the plot unfolded. The narrative switches between the three central females who, for various reasons, are looking at an online dating site. Unbeknown to each of them, they’ve all been hooked by an male who claims to be a Dr. Problem is, no one has actually met him or knows anything about him, other than the yarns he spins. There are twists and surprises, but overall I didn’t find the tale quite as gripping and engaging as I’d expected.
The characters fall just a little flat and it’s saved by the final twists. The narration throughout is good and I’m disappointed I didn’t enjoy the story more.
My thanks to the publisher for a review copy via Netgalley.
I really quite enjoyed listening to this audiobook and although there were points when the story ebbed a little, it kept my interest.
Three women from very different backgrounds join a dating website and all think they have met the man of their dreams - Dr David Kingfisher. They are all convinced he is 'the one' despite never having met him in person. None of the three know of the others existence until a Facebook post by one of them asking for help to find him after he disappears. Cue an investigation by the three but in their attempts to find him, they put one of their lives in danger.
The main characters are well developed with Denise being my favourite but Petra and Anna, not so much. The other characters weren't particularly likeable at all but they all had a part to play in the overall story. The pace is mixed - it ebbs and flows with a lot of the 'action' taking place in the last third of the book. The plot is relevant and topical and the vastly different lives of the three main characters is interesting.
The narrator is good and whilst there were some distinctions between the voices of the characters, I think it would have worked better if different narrators were used for the three main characters. That being said, Melissa did a good job particularly with the voice of some of the male characters where she captured their 'smarminess' perfectly.
Overall, a good book that works well in audio format.
Many thanks to HarperCollins UK Audio and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for giving me the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately, I don't think that Just Another Liar for me.
I went into it having already fallen in love with the synopsis, when sounded very intriguing in the 'then'. I also really loved the cover. But when I started reading the book I just found that the story was very slow-paced and boring. There was also something about the book that just lacked. I suppose it was the characters who lacked any really characteristics.
It's just not realistic.
Denise, Petra, and Anna all fall in love with David Kingfisher who they have never meant. A guy that they don't even know and just makes excuses when they ask to go out with him.
The multiple POV ideas was smart but at the same time, I don't think that it was mastered properly because despite the fact that each character speaks of their backstory, the writing style makes all the characters have the same voice, if you know what I mean.
The plot also took a lot of time and it was too slow for my liking, but points to the narrator for the audiobook, they made it so much better.
This was such a great listen. I particularly enjoyed it as an audiobook. The characters seem so real and the story flowed really well. Totally addictive.
Anna is a teacher. Her long-time boyfriend has left her for good. She is heartbroken and wants to get him or get over him. She moves towns knowing that her ex is there too. Will her love life improve in this new place?
Denise is stuck at home looking after an invalid and verbally abusive mother. Her fiance left her after her mother had a stroke and she has a non-existent love life now.
Petra is married to Sam. She has had a miscarriage recently and cannot get over it. She logs on to a dating site just for the novelty of the whole thing.
David Kingfisher is a paediatric surgeon. He has a BMW and lives in a lovely home. But does he? Or is that just what he tells Anna, Denise, and Petra over the dating app?
Whatever the truth, David Kingfisher has now disappeared after taking money off Denise and Petra. And these three women have to come together to find him. So who is David Kingfisher? And why did he lie?
This was slow in the beginning but gained speed eventually. I listened to the audiobook and thought that three different narrators would have done more justice to the three leads.
I guessed the mystery at around midway point but that didn't take away from the listening. I really liked Denise too and gratifyingly, her character had a good arc. Anna and Petra, not so much.
There were a few plotholes in the end though the story tied up most of them well.
Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK Audio for the audio ARC.
3.5 stars
Denise, Petra, and Anna all have their reasons for being alone.
But they’re not ready to share them.
David is the answer to all their problems.
But they’ve only met him online.
Each woman wants her happy ending.
But only one of them can get it.
One of these women will end up dead.
But which one? And will you ever work out who killed them? The narration has good pace and flow, and the narrators voices seemed right for the characters they were portraying. I listened to this as an audio book and felt the narrators really helped bring the story to life. The narrator narrated the book beautifully, and I loved the depictions of the different characters.
**please note due to low rating I will not be leaving a public review for this book as I have not paid for it.**
Narrator 5 stars
Great voice. My ears loved her. Would definitely buy books narrated by her.
Story 2 stars
The cover is FANTASTIC! absolutely eye catching and the title of the book is great, however the story is a little dull. It just never fully grabbed my attention enough that I would recommend this book.
