Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins Audio and Mandy Byatt for an Audio-ARC in return for an honest review.
Denise, Petra, and Anna have all met the man of their dreams. They met him online and appears to be the perfect man. There’s only one problem, it’s the same man. It’s only when Denise becomes suspicious do they find out about each other and want to find out the truth.
‘Just Another Liar’ was a slow starter to begin with as it was setting the scene but once it got going it was full steam ahead. This is dark, gripping and addictive. The plot is fantastic. The characters are likeable and all have their little quirks. I really enjoyed this book and think it’ll be very popular once it is released. A great read. Perfect for fans of Shari Lapena and thriller lovers.
Sorry I wasn't as thrilled with this book as other reviewers I didn't find it gripping or a thriller despite the murders
The story centers around 3 women Anna, Denise and Petra who through online dating all fall in love with the same man, David Kingfisher
Even though they have never met him they let him borrow money and when he disappears they get together to track him down. but is he who they think he is
There are a few good twist and turns but the book for me is average hence the 3 stars

This was a fantastic audiobook!
It follows three different women, all of whom take up online dating and start seeing the same man. They all have different lives and different reasons for signing up on the dating site, and this book gives a perseptive view of online dating in general.
I really enjoyed the differing stories, but as an audiobook I think it would have benefitted from 3 different narrators for the different perspectives of the women. Until I was a fair way in, I hadn't realised there was a different woman's story and I had to go back and relisten to fully grasp it. Different narrators would have saved this from happening.
That said, I loved the book and raced through it, looking for things I could do around the house while I listened. It was a thoroughly gripping book and made me question all the characters' motives throughout.

Just Another Liar started with a promise but didn’t really deliver. The story was told through points of view and backgrounds of three women who met the same stranger on line. I listened to the audio version and every time it took a while to recognise whose point of view it was as they all sounded the same. Overall the book was quite interesting but not gripping or exciting, the pace was slow in places and the ending was quite abrupt.
Denise, Anna and Petra all meet the same man on a dating site: David Kingfisher. He’s charming and loving and they all fall for him.
Even though they’ve never met him.
When David borrows money from Denise and then disappears the three women find each other and together decide to try and discover who he is.
Cue lots of twists and turns and lots of characters all intertwined together and a very unexpected ending!
I listened to the audiobook version of this book and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for letting me review this audiobook.
David is lying to Denise, Petra and Anna. They all love him and believe that he loves them.
But they've only met him online.
I really enjoyed the beginning of this and found it easy to keep the characters separate but before long I began to get confused and annoyed.
There were some great twist and turns and although I was annoyed with the confusion, I kept on reading and didn't see the twist.
The audiobook is read by Melissa Woodbridge who I found to be very easy to listen to although I really had to concentrate at times to figure out which characters were speaking - for me, there wasn't enough of a difference between to voices of the characters.
Wow that was not the way I thought this book was going to go. This is a fast placed dark thriller about internet catfishing and a group of women thrown together after meeting David online. As their lives are torn apart in the search for this mystery man this book take a surprising turn as it comes crashing to its conclusion. I really enjoyed it although I agree with some of the reviews that using different voice artist for the different women would have made it easier to keep track as I kept having to rewind back to work out which one was talking.
I listened to the audio version of the book, and I found the narration really engaging. The pace was good and the multiple narrative voices were easily distinguishable.
The story itself gets off to a cracking start as three women each decide to try internet dating and each find themselves quickly falling for a man who calls himself David Kingfisher. It isn't long before Denise, Anna and Petra find out about each other either and that the man they have invested so much time and money in is not who they thought he was. However, this isn't a simple story about a cheating man who needs to be taught a lesson. This story is much, much darker. Firstly the reasons for why each woman has decided to try internet dating. Denise's story and her complete lack of agency and feeling of being trapped were particularly moving. I really felt for her. As the three women try to discover the man behind the name, they discover a family with a tragic past, have to face up to their own demons and work together to right the wrong that has been done to them. There are plenty of red herrings and the actual reveal of who David Kingfisher really is came as a surprise to me.
There are some serious issues in the book; family sacrifice, abuse, infertility and mental health, and I felt that if some of these were unpicked and given more attention the story could have been incredible. As it was I felt that the ending was somewhat rushed.
My thanks go to the publishers and NetGalley for the advance copy in return for an honest review.
**listened via audio book**
I just couldn't get on with this book. I found the plot to be really dull, and not the page -turning thriller I was hoping for based on the title and synopsis.
I liked the audio narrator, but I don't think she was great at making each of the POV's different. I found it quite difficult to follow in that sense. I'm not sure if reading the hard copy of the book would have changed my opinion on this - but the narrator certainly did not make it easy.
Overall, the book was a little too slow and ploddy for a thriller and a little too slow and ploddy to interest me.
This book is certainly one of the best I’ve read in months. It centres around cat fishing (stringing woman along with promises).
Anna is a teacher. She’s come out of a failed relationship. She’s moved cities to see if she can rekindle her romance. Once she realises it is a non starter she dives into online dating. Where she meets David!
Denise is trapped at home with her disabled mother. She has given her life up to look after her. She meets David online. Charming her she falls hook line and sinker for him. She even loans him money.
Petra is a married woman who has joined the online dating scene for fun. She knows she shouldn’t do it but she’s deeply unhappy and longs for something different.
David is a doctor working in paediatrics. He has a glamorous life saving others. Drives a sport car and has a dream home. David spends time dating these women online. The perfect man that any women would fall for. However, the never meet. There’s always an emergency that crops up.
It’s not till these woman come together they discover they have been hoodwinked.
A belter of a read/audiobook. I would certainly recommend this to everyone. It also shows how easy a person in the wrong state of mind can be catfished.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to get an advance copy of the book

Wow I didn't expect that ending! This is an excellent cleverly plotted and entertaining read full of unlikeable characters, secrets, lust and jealousy. It centres around the perils of online dating and putting your trust in people who you only know from behind a screen. The story is relevant and unique and I raced through it as I needed to find out who David was and what his motives were. I thought I had it all sussed out from early in the book but I was proved wrong and I was gobsmacked over who was behind it all. I particularly enjoyed David's small parts between the main chapters as he is watching the women trying desperately to track him down as they created a sense of menace and added to the suspense, keeping the reader guessing as to who he could be. Overall this is a riveting 5* read and I can't wait to see what this author produces next!
Wow what a great thriller! I loved the storyline and it kept me hooked all the way through! I usually find thrillers pretty easy to predict but this one kept me guessing! Great book!
Just another Liar - Mandy Byatt
Sleeping with her mothers ex-partner wasn’t great!
It wasn’t the worst but I felt it was missing something. Reading the reviews and people being horrified over certain things that happen was the reason I wanted to read it…
…I just didn’t think it had any clout it was stuff and people put together. 🤷♀️
Finished It In A Day
🧡 There was so much to get my teeth into here. Three very different women, three unhappy lives, all hoping one man will fix it. It was never going to end well now, was it?
💚 Beyond the mystery itself, the characters’ backstories had me invested, especially Denise. Each one was rooted in very real issues.
💜 Long story short, I stormed through this in one day. Sorry, not sorry.

SOUNDBITE
🎧 You have to keep your wits about you listening to this. Especially if you, like me, enjoy trying to guess the twist.
🎧 In a story with three main female voices, one narrator has quite the challenge on her hands. But Melissa Woodbridge was not only thoroughly engaging. She also did a decent job of differentiating the characters. I still think three narrators would have been easier in this respect, but it didn’t detract from the overall performance.

SHALL I COMPARE THEE TO...
At first, this reminded me of John Marrs’ The One, albeit without the sci-fi element. Overall, I thought it had elements of Rachel Abbott and Adele Parks. A mix of dark backstories, twisty turns and a hint of glamour.
Big thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK Audio for providing me with an ALC in return for an honest review.
I received an advanced audiobook review copy in exchange for an honest review
The plot sounded so interesting but the mystery was flat at times, would eventually pick up and crackle for a bit until the next dip. It definitely helped that the narrator sounds exactly how these women talk. Definitely a beach read- an entertaining guilty pleasure. 3.5 rounded up.
Catfish Online Dating! How will 3 women team up together to catch their online predator?

"Just Another Liar" by Mandy Byatt, is fiction. However, many real women can relate to being catfished. This book/ audiobook has some great curveballs the reader/listener will not be expecting. It starts off slow, but works up to a surprise ending. The audiobook is narrated by the talented Melissa Woodbridge and will be published January 20, 2022.
Thank you to NetGalley, Avon Books UK, and Harper Collins, UK Audio, for allowing me to review this adorable e-book while listening to the audiobook. It was a pure pleasure.
3-star read
Denise, Petra & Anna have met David Kingfisher online – they have all chatted with him, exchanged messages and some photos, and some money too – thus begins the hunt for David Kingfisher, where past secrets are revealed.
This was a good read, fast paced after you get the hang of all the characters, and then their family members names – I found it a bit difficult to remember all the names initially!
Narration by Melissa Woodbridge was very good
I was sent an advanced reading copy for Just Another Liar, but had forgotten its blurb by the time I started reading it, so judged the book by its cover. That and its early set up had me thinking it would be more romance... and then the twists began. Three women, all sad, all lonely, and at least 2 out of the 3 not very likable ( I very much enjoy books with unlikeable MCs) and all seeking love via the Internet. This story feels very topical as it explores the pitfalls of Internet dating. As the story unfolds, it becomes increasingly darker and develops into a psychological thriller, albeit an easy and gentle one. I read it very fast, as I was intrigued about where the story was headed - certainly not in the direction I initially expected, nor towards an ending I ever saw coming!
This is a psychological thriller about three women called Denise, Anna and Petra, who join a dating website and find there a man called David. But, is David who he says he is? Why is he so secretive? Is he playing a game with them? This is a twisty story, which left me wondering who David really was, right until the end of the book. I had no idea who he was, and I was very surprised when I found out, but looking back on everything that had happened, it then all made perfect sense! This is an enjoyable book, which you will enjoy if you love a creepy story with lots of secrets, and which leaves you guessing all the time. The audiobook narrator was perfect for this book, and she did a great job. I really enjoyed this book a lot!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
