If you are looking for a work bible to help you wrap your head and arms around digital marketing, this is your handbook! I learned something from every page and have recommended it to serval of my collegues.
A useful basic guide for those who want an introduction to digital marketing but probably not so useful for those who already have some experience in the field.
Suitable for those seeking a basic and broad understanding of the digital marketing landscape or early in their digital marketing career looking for a quick re-cap as it covers snippets from web design and eCommerce through to analytics, SEO and paid ads.
Thank you Netgalley for the eARC.
This is a really useful and in depth book which covers things I had never really thought about before. If you're interested in marketing or starting your own business this is a very handy book to have on hand!
This is a strange book. In attempting to cover every aspect of Digital Marketing it acts more like a dictionary of terms than any in-depth discussion of any specific point. For someone unfamiliar with the concepts in question it might act as a very short introduction to the given point, but seems more of a stepping off point to then go find what it actually means in any depth or usable manner on a decent marketing website. (Although the author suggests this is a risky approach in his introduction - instead saying this book will give you everything you need to know)
The introduction claims this book will look at how to build beautiful websites that convert...how to produce engaging written and visual content and how to produce communications that deliver satisfaction and retention.
It won't. It will give you the bare bones of what sits behind any of these things, but only so far as to understand what the concept is.
In truth, it couldn't be much more: Digital Marketing covers a whole lot of ground, and you're not going to get a complete bible covering everything in 288 pages.
Take two examples:
Wireframing - less than 100 words are spent on the concept of wireframing. It doesn't explain what a wireframe IS, or how to go about preparing one. But it does tell you they're important.
Personas. You get less than 200 words on Personas. Could you realistically then go and build a set of personas? No. Not to any useful or usable degree.
The Case Studies are, for the most parts anecdotes. not 'Case Studies' (EG Google Case Study: ("Google told me many years ago...' about a company that changed the imagery on its home page from button to images of human and it improved clicks'. This is NOT a 'Google Case Study''
I'm sure this would be useful for someone completely new to the Digital landscape. But if you're looking for something to practically help you design campaigns or support projects, this really isn't the book for you. - and realistically, I don't think there is ONE book out there to cover all things, but this is a very thin piece compared to, say Dummies Guide to Digital Marketing, which more effectively gives you 9 distinct volumes allowing for more detail on each area.
Very focused book on digital all from website and ecommerce to social media marketing. The great thing about this book is that you don't need to read from start to end. You can read any of the chapters separately and in no particular order because they cover separate topics of the big digital marketing world. The handbook part is very practical and will give you hands on tools you may need to use. Another thing to mention are case studies. Very hands on and easy to read book.
Very informative and would be very useful to somebody who was starting out in Marketing or have an interest in the subject.
The Digital Marketing Handbook is a comprehensive guide to succeeding in digital marketing, and is a great starting point for people new to digital marketing, as well as a handy resource to keep on hand for more experienced people to refresh or build on existing skills. The author manages to provide a wealth of information in an accessible, concise, and engaging way, and it is well structured so if you already have some basic knowledge on the subject it's easy to go straight to the areas you are keen to learn about first. The book also includes case studies throughout, and these real examples provide colour and make the points easier to digest.
Although there is a lot of similar information online on this very topic, sometimes it's hard to know what to search for, as the author himself says in the introduction. I found this to be very accurate, for example some information in the book was new ground for me, so much so that I wouldn't have known to search for it, and ultimately would have missed out on implementing in future campaign and project strategies.
The Digital Marketing Handbook is a guide for all things digital marketing. The author is a marketing expert with over 20 years in the field and his knowledge really shines through in this book. This book covers web design, SEO practices, paid ads, analytics, email marketing, e-commerce and so much more. Each section goes into depth without being overwhelming and there are many useful tips and resources included in each chapter as well. The case studies, recommendations, and step by step guides were very helpful.
Overall The Digital Marketing Handbook is a good starting point for those new to digital marketing. Concise, practical, and educational.
