This is a good basic introduction to lots of ways of doing divination. Simple illustrations are provided and there are methods described that were new to me. Fun and informational.
Fascinating look at a variety of forms of divination, some I had heard of, many I had not, presented in digestible depth and detail and accompanied by helpful illustrations and visualizations. Great prompts for trying out the practices yourself, and interesting bits on the history of these diverse methods.

🌱OVERVIEW
~ Do I want a physical copy of this book? — YES!
~ Do I believe it will help me improve my random divination abilities? — MAYBE! It will at LEAST point me in the right direction.
~ Who is for? — The curious, the scholars and the gifted.
The book does an excellent job introducing one and all to the HIGHLY comprehensive and well described, forms of divination. For each type, the author provides a background to the method, how it can be done and some recommendations. The book focuses on ‘lesser known’ or ‘lesser shared’ methods of divination - including playing cards, charms, crystals, colours, buttons, flowers, shells and dice among SEVERAL others 😌 - If you aren’t curious by now, this book is not for you.
A very interesting read and introduction into different forms of divination. A solid start for those trying to find something that speaks to them and several forms of divination to dig into.
♡🌱 But that’s just me ;)
The book does not aim to be comprehensive, but it does provide a pretty broad sampling of divination methods. Some readers may ask why Tarot, that most popular system is not included. The author explains that "there is a lot of easily accessible information available on it, so I decided to talk about some other less well-known decks" (11). In terms of cards, we get Lenormand, Kipper, and playing cards.
A strength of the book is how it combines a bit of history and trivia with tips and steps to do the various practices. Each chapter gives a short historical overview, goes over tools needed, basic meanings, and symbols, and steps on how to do the specific practice. In many of these, the author emphasizes that you can start with common objects you may already have at home and/or objects you can easily acquire at very little to no cost. This makes the practices accessible to many.
Overall, the book is well written and very easy to read. Nothing in it is complicated. It does present just the basics. If you really want to go in depth, you may want to find additional resources for areas that may interest you. A small issue is that the book lacks a bibliography and/or recommended reading list. That could have added a bit more value. Still, as a guide to learn more and start exploring these practices the book works well.
In focus divination by Steven Bright is a great easy to read intro book on divination. The book goes over the basics of some of the most popular types of divination. It talks about different kinds of divination with cards, runes, tea leaf reading, casting with charms, stones ,colors, flowers and buttons. This variety of directions will help anyone learn a form of divination that is easy to acquire. I suggest this book to anyone looking for a quick intro into different forms of fortune telling to start out.
Thank you, NetGalley for a chance to read and review this book!
I found this to be a very interesting overview of the different methods available in case you wanted to learn more about divination. I will say that it was fairly short and other methods could have been included to make this a more comprehensive book. That being said, this book is purely for beginners.
The more books I read, the more I'm drawn to Lenorman cards, even though I really should focus on tarot for now. This is the first I'm hearing about Kipper cards, Witches Runes, reading buttons, flowers, and I Ching. I found the chapter on divination through Dice to be slightly unclear, and the changing in I Ching could be better explained; a few more pages on both would have made this a much better read.
From what I can see, Steven Bright has written more books on this subject, so I will probably check those out! Given that I'm still struggling with tarot cards, it's probably going to be his book 'In Focus Tarot'.
Gives a small introduction to fourteen different divination methods. Good for those who want to explore different types and want to see if they are interested in any.
I love the In Focus series, and this Divination book doesn't disappoint. The information is presented in clear, easy to understand pieces. The illustrations keep things interesting and inviting.
A really great introduction into divination for people who are curious about expanding their spiritual knowledge. A concise and compelling read with great examples to kick-start your journey into doing readings. As someone with no prior knowledge of how to read any cards, dice, etc, this proved an intelligent and insightful guide which is also highly encouraging.
This was a great dive in to different forms of divination. I really enjoyed learning more about some of the less popular practices.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me this ARC to review.
I have just started with tarot in the past few months and I wanted to get more information on it as well as other forms of divination. I found that this book helped with learning tarot and gave me an interest in runes and other forms of divination. I found this helpful for a beginner!
Very informative! I really enjoyed reading and learning about astrology and all the houses and planets and how they factor in my personality and birth chart. It all makes sense now!
This is a great beginners guide on all things divination. The structure is nice, and provides basic information on how to read everything form the expected tarot and crystals to standard playing cards, flowers, runes, charms, dice, tea leaves, and shells. I’d definitely say this is a good start for those interested in the idea and practice of divination.

Ok so if anyone needed a quick crash course of some different forms of divination, not Tarot or Oracle cards I have found the book for you. There were so many different forms of divination explored here. From Runes to buttons. It is not exactly what I expected when I requested the book nor what I was really looking for but it was still very interesting. I liked all of the visuals that were included so sections are very easily identifiable and understandable. This is a great beginner’s guide if you are looking to explore different kinds of divination.
Interesting little book which definitely kept my recent interests active.
I’m keen to practice on what was in the book particularly with crystals.
A great educational book if it’s something you’re intrigued about.
An amazing beginners guide to divination .
The writing was very informative and easy to follow along with and will help me a lot with my practice. Thank you netgalley and quarto publishing for an ARC in exchange for a honest review!
I found this book really interesting, and a I learnt a lot of new info about Divination from reading... who knew that you could use shells!?!
The book was laid out nicely, and I loved the illustrations and graphics.
It was a good book for beginners. It went over a lot of different divination methods, and explained them with a 'key' - but it didn't go into any more detail than that. So a good one to get you started, and get you interested in the idea and practice of divination.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for an e-copy in exchange of my honest review.
I think this is great for beginners and for someone like me who has some experience with divination I learned a couple more techniques. I really liked the charts breaking down the meanings behind different things. Really useful and helpful.
This would be a great reference guide for someone wanting to get into divination.
My only gripe is with how Netgalley offered the digital copy. I could only read it in Netgalley app which was fine but the formatting of the pages was squished and made it hard to read--super small font.
Thank you to both #NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group/Wellfleet Press for providing me an advance copy of Steven Bright’s spiritual work, In Focus Divination, in exchange for an honest review.
