Nelson Mandela by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara explores the life of South Africa's first black President. Born Rolihlahla, a Xhosa name meaning 'troublemaker', Mandela certainly lived up to his name. A revolutionary and civil rights proponent, he fought against apartheid and spent many years in prison. I appreciate that the author handled certain parts of life with gentleness and compassion. That's been the case with many of the people who've been covered in this series.

The end of the book contains a more detailed look at life, using language suited for much older readers. Inspirational and educational both, this entire series is great! I read this with my cubs. We love this series! Highly recommended!

WoW! Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara books must be one of the best little books to purchase for children, these are the best-selling series of books and educational games that explore the lives of outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists and activists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream.

So, this latest book is about Nelson Mandela by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and is just brilliant throughout.
"Little Nelson's given name was Rolihlahla, which means 'troublemaker' in Xhosa, his native language. But his rebellious nature would lead him to become one of the world's most inspirational civil rights leaders and anti-apartheid revolutionaries.

Despite the many years of imprisonment and adversity he faced, Nelson remained firm in his mission to end the racist system of apartheid in South Africa.

His bravery and resilience was rewarded when he was released from prison and later voted in to become South Africa's first Black president. This inspiring book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the activist turned president’s life."

And one of the greatest men that lived! RIP Nelson Mandela

I have read a lot of the books in this series and I am always so happy to get the opportunity to read another book in the series. This book is a fantastic introduction to the life of Nelson Mandela the book helps adults and children to discuss such very important issues, I enjoyed the fact although it showed Mandela’ fight for justice, his victory that it also shows the struggles that the country faced again inviting further questions for children to discuss. It also has the best illustrations of Sanchez Vegara

I found this book very interesting to read. It is a children's book, which shows the life of Nelson Mandela, from when he was a young boy, up until he was an old man. He had a very diverse life, especially since he experienced being in jail for a long time, and then going on to become a president of South Africa. Throughout his life, he brought many changes to the world, and he became famous.

The graphics in the book are nice, and the text is easy for children to read, with just enough information to keep a child occupied, but not too overwhelmed.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Another great addition to this wonderful series.

This book is the perfect introduction to the life of Nelson Mandela for young children. The book gives many opportunities for adults and children to have a conversation about the difficult topics surrounding South Africa's history.

My family moved to SA recently from the UK. This book gives us a foundation from which we can build on their knowledge of the rainbow nation they now call home.

A wonderful introduction for young readers to learn about Nelson Mandela without too much detail.
The colours in the book reflect his story really well.
This book also shows the struggles that a country divided faced subtly for a child that may raise questions from them.
Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this book, I adore this series of books.

These biographies are age appropriate; inspiring and interesting, but not overwhelming. They have bright, beautiful illustrations, striking covers, and look great on a shelf together. I love the diversity of the people featured in this series. Artists, athletes, authors, activists, actors, explorers, entertainers, musicians and scientists.

Beautiful and inspiring

This Little People Big Dreams book chronicles the life of Nelson Mandela. In typical LPBD fashion, the illustrations are quite detailed and the story is told in an inspiring way. I learned some new facts and am planning to read more on Mandela in the future. What an inspiring man. Definitely another very good book that I can recommend.

I love the Little People Big Dreams books, as do the children in my class, so I was delighted to be given the chance to read another one in the series.

As with the other books in the series, it contains lovely illustrations and key facts, written in a way that younger children can understand. The timeline detail at the back is aimed at older children as the language is more complex and more details are included.

I would happily recommend this book to children in my class. They will learn a lot about Nelson Mandela in a fun and interesting way.

I am super pleased to say that this book on Nelson Mandela was no exception.
I learnt a lot.
The illustrations were beautiful, and despite the small amount of pages, I still felt like I got to know more about the amazing man.

A good simple introduction to Nelson Mandela for young children. My daughters aged 7 and 5 were able to absorb most of the details of Nelson’s story and reading the book prompted a brief discussion about apartheid. Illustration wise, this book isn’t as jazzy or colourful as some of the others but this suits the story and tone of the book I think. I enjoy reading these books to my daughters as I often feel I learn a lot more about the subjects myself. An important addition to this range of books and many thanks to Quarto and NetGalley for the chance to read and review in advance.

This is an excellent summary of Nelson Mandela's life and achievements. A great introduction for children. I really enjoy this series!

(Note: small typo on the first page. Should read "He was a member *of* a clan...")

I don't think I have ever not learnt anything from this series of books!
Another great read, that told Nelson Mandela story from that of a young boy, and of his dreams of making black people be seen as Equals by everyone.
I was born in 82 so I remember him being on the telly a lot when I was younger, but didn't know in much detail what he had done and went through - other than the fact he was in prison for a long time. This book taught me so many new things.
