Lovely book, lovely story, Carrie Fisher never fails to bring out a really good feel good book. I was totally engrossed in this story, I loved the characters the way they journey throughout the book.
A bit of a frustrating read. Whilst I actually enjoyed the romantic elements, the whisperings from a dead grandma were a little too far for me. Maybe a 5 star if you like spooky stuff, fortune telling and fate!
Thanks for Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn't really blown away by this book. I found it hard to get into, although the idea was so unique so it was disappointing. I feel could have been executed a little better. I didn't feel the connection between Lorali and Grayson was explored enough to really make me invest in the story.
This book is a nice easy read for anyone wanting a break from their usual genre! It is warm and comforting and also very predictable - which is just what I wanted. A holiday read for definite! I look forward to reading more from this author
I sadly really struggled with this book. I'm not sure why Carrie's books tend to have a somewhat odd fascination with Death? She may have other books that don't touch upon it, but the ones I've read all have death as a key theme. A shame as it is not what I expected!
I enjoyed this book. The premise was unique, even for Carrie. I wasn't sold on her last novel but this really drew me in. I loved the dynamics between the characters and I can't wait to see what else she has in store
I have never read a book written by this author. I really struggled with this book. It tried to deal with some tricky concepts but for me there just wasn't enough character development and it didn't go deep enough to make you care. The cover is really beautiful though.
I enjoyed this; it was an interesting plot which is what make me want to read it.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
I was really interested in the idea of this book, the blurb alone was intriguing. But sadly it didn't live up to its expectations and although the concept was good, it fell in reality. I think that the issue for me is that I didn't feel a connection with the characters, they fell rather flat and were not built up enough. It was a simple read, interesting idea, but just failed to deliver. It also like there were tokenistic attempts at diversity, perhaps from feedback on previous books? But it was almost better not to put those references in than to put them in, mention them briefly, and ignore them for the rest of the book.
Content warning as well - there is a storyline involving suicide.
A very well written book, written with love and nurtured into a stunningly beautiful tale. As always Carrie delivers a world for the reader to get lost into. Fabulous
What a fantastic book! I can't remember when I raced through a book so quickly! Although a rom com at heart, it has such a different storyline / concept to it that it just kept me hooked. Well written, with lovely characters who you just really want everything to end well for. But Lorelai couldn't see it ending well at all - in fact, quite the opposite. But would her 'kiss of death' curse mean she was never destined to find 'normal' true love and happiness for herself? Could she handle what she saw or would she live the rest of her days on her own, too afraid of the alternatives? I couldn't possibly spoil your enjoyment of such a good story by telling you....you'll just have to read it yourself to find out!
Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review, which is what I have given.
I found the writing style very juvenile, similar to Giovanna Fletcher. I won't be finishing this book and probably won't give it a review online as I really cannot recommend it but that's not the author's fault - it's my own for not looking into it properly before I requested it. There are millions of better romance titles.
I really enjoyed this book, I loved the concept of the plot. I was hooked from the first page, I was eager to find out more about how Lorelei could see peoples deaths when she kissed them. I have never read a book with a plot like this one before, a nice change from other romance books.
I thought Lorelei was an average main character, at times I found her childish but she was okay. I loved Joanie, she was so funny and she had some great interactions with the other characters. I didn’t really see much character development but I feel like this book wasn’t set over a long period of time so it was more romance based.
I thought the writing was really good, I feel like I flew through it. I definitely want to pick up another book by this author. As I said, I enjoyed the plot, very unique.
A really lovely romcom with a unique twist! Falling in love is hard when you kiss someone and see their death!
I found the characters relatable and likeable especially Lorelai and really enjoyed her development through the story.
An enjoyable and easy read for anyone
I have long been aware of the talents of Carrie Hope Fletcher, having watched her as Eponine in Les Miserables some years ago, but this is the first time I have read one of her books. As you will know, I am not a huge romance reader, but throw a bit of magical realism into the mix and I am sold!
Within just a few sentences of With This Kiss starting, I liked Lorelai and had the impression that we would be firm friends if she was real and we were to meet. I loved her friendship with Joanie, and would definitely want to be part of that little gang. And as for Grayson, well, he is just too adorable!
My heart broke for Lorelai as she struggled to understand her “superpower.” Her visions were described in such vivid detail that it wasn’t hard to imagine just how horrific it would actually be experience them.
I would perhaps like to have seen more of the book/movie club members and had the chance to get to know each of them a little more, but actually I was so engrossed in Lorelai’s troubles that I largely forgot about their existence.
With This Kiss is a beautiful story about love of all kinds and there is a wonderful warmth throughout it.
With This Kiss is a book that captivates you emotionally and sweeps you off your feet in to a wonderfully rich and deep story which is expertly written by Carrie Hope Fletcher. She is an author that understands perfectly how to build a plot and create characters you connect and fall in love with.
As with many of her previous books, Fletcher has once again created a fantasy world with a main character who experiences the world in an unusual way - here, being able to foresee the death of those she kisses. With This Kiss was a fast, easy read, which was enjoyable to while away a summer’s afternoon, but it felt too reliant on cliches to stand out as an all time favourite. All of Carrie’s books are pleasant to read though, so I won’t hesitate to pick up her next.
Can you imagine that you could see how your partner dies every time you kiss them?
This is the story of Lorelai, a woman that doesn’t want to have a partner, because everytime she kisses a partner, she can see vividly how they die! So, she decided to keep men apart from her life, trying to not fall in love and never kiss a man again. But then she meets the sweet Grayson, making her decision crumble and hoping for something she doesn’t know if she could handle. What would you do? Kiss him or stay away?
Even if this is a sweet story, for me it was quite difficult to fall in love with it, I really can’t imagine what it can be like whenever I kiss my partner I’ll see him dying.
I always love Carrie Hope Fletcher books, but this time I think it was too much, I liked how the story tries to show us that even in the worst situations you can have happiness if you don’t give up. Sadly for me, I don’t think I would be as brave as Lorelai and stay away to kiss anyone ever again!
If you are looking for a different romantic story, with a little bit of fantasy and sadness, this is your book, it has all the ingredients you need to make you cry and smile, believe me. ;)Are you ready for “With This Kiss”?
With This Kiss by Carrie Hope Fletcher is about Lorelai, who loves reading and adapting books into screenplays. She works full time at a cinema in London, and when she kisses someone, she sees their death. The only one who knows is her best friend, and Lorelai doesn't plan to change that!
Until, that is, she meets Grayson, the first man who makes Lorelai want more from life, and to find out if she is seeing death or making it happen.
This is a romantic fantasy about Lorelai's choices regarding this power. I loved the idea of this book, and found myself getting frustrated at Lorelai, and not being swept away in the story.
I found this to be lacking in character depth, and romantic connection. I finished it, but I won't be looking for another book by this author.
With This Kiss was published on 14th April 2022, and is available from Amazon, Waterstones and Bookshop.org.
You can follow Carrie Hope Fletcher on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and her website.
I was given this book in exchange for an unbiased review, so my thanks to NetGalley and to HQ.
well what can you say about this book it is certainly different and a joy to read who would have thought a kiss would make all the difference
