I adored this life affirming tale of two women bound by their mutual love to one man and their struggle to rebuild their lives following his passing. Highly recommended!
Ashley makes a decision to get into a car with a famous celebrity. Unfortunately the car crashes & the celebrity is dead. Waking up in hospital the one person Ashley doesn't expect to see is the only person that wants to help her.
Forming an unusual bond and friendship they each help each other turn their lives around and face their demons.
This is a heart-warming story of love, friendship and women empowering themselves. A great read!
Joanna is shocked to hear that Cliff, her ex-husband has died in a car crash, and discovers that there was a pregnant young woman with him in the car. Having always hated the limelight associated with being married to a famous chef, and worried about Ashley, the woman in the car, Joanna decides that they both return to her hometown to escape from the paparazzi.
The story is mainly told from three perspectives, Joanna, Ashley, and Mel, Joanna’s friend from her hometown which she left 20 years ago. This gives a more rounded viewpoint and depth into their characters. There are secrets waiting to be told and twists and turns along the way, keeping you turning the pages.
Characters are well drawn and likeable, with a real sense of community in Joanna’s old home town. Dialogue is crisp and emotively draws you into the story which explores relationships, misunderstandings and problems between mothers and their teen daughters.
Although I think the plot was drawn out a little in the middle, I was absorbed until the last page.
I’ve read and enjoyed titles by this author previously but this is slightly different. Told from multiple points of view, The main protagonist, Joanna, has suffered at the hands of the press and antics of her celebrity ex-husband. Following his death in a car accident Joanna (slightly unbelievably) takes the girl in the car at the time of the accident to her home town that she hasn’t visited for 20 years. Themes of loyalty and community together with many supporting characters are explored. An enjoyable read.
Another fabulous read from the Queen of romance Sarah Morgan. This latest release is packed with compassion, friendship and secrecy.
Mainly set in the stunning location on the Californian coast Joanna Whitman goes above and beyond to protect Ashley from the media circus that Joanna has had to endure ever since her marriage to celebrity chef Cliff. Now her Ex, Cliff still causes Joanna turmoil in her life. Trying to escape publicity Joanna takes Ashley to her childhood renovated beach house hoping for some much needed privacy yet they find that the community rallies round offering them sanctuary and support until they are ready to face the reality of life again.
This lovely story radiates women’s kinship and trust in the most unusual circumstances. It was a joy to read and I thoroughly recommend it. My thanks to net Galley and publisher HQ for the ARC.
I’m a big fan of Sarah Morgan’s books, and have been for a long time. I was therefore really looking forward to reading her latest, Beach House Summer. It didn’t disappoint me!
I loved this book, it was such a relaxing read. The characters are all really likeable, and I especially loved Ashley and Joanna. I loved the way they supported each other, and brought out the best in each other. They’ve both been through a lot, and I enjoyed reading about how they forged a new beginning together.
I loved the community, and the location, of Silver Point. Joanna grew up there, and it was lovely to see the way her old friends supported her, once she let them back in. I loved the seaside location too.
Overall, this was a relaxing read, full of friendship, community, and second chances. Not to mention some romance. I definitely recommend it for some escapism!
I was given a free copy of this book, my opinions are my own.
Joanna returns to her hometown of Silver Point after a twenty year absence. Ashley is the girl she decides to help but it is Ashley who shows Joanna she can believe in herself and take charge of her own life. A book about family, friends and love. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
Brilliant contemporary fiction, perfect escapism.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Another very enjoyable read by Sarah Morgan.
Joanna is the ex-wife of a womanising celebrity chef, and even though she put up with his womanising for years they've only been divorced for the past year, but still linked through business interests.
But then he dies when his car goes off a cliff, and there's a young and pregnant woman in the car with him, Ashley, who survives and ends up in hospital. Of course the press descend on both of them wanting to know what happened, and who the father of the baby is, and so Joanna decides to help Ashley and they both escape to her old childhood home where she's kept a secluded beachfront house.
Of course nothing is quite as it seems, and Ashley ends up being the stronger of the two women, who form a really lovely sort of mother and daughter bond as time goes on. Joanna tended to hide from everything until it went away, whereas Ashley wanted to face things head on more, so they really helped each other. Whilst I did really like both characters I found Joanna slightly annoying with her 'stick your head in the sand until it goes away' mentality, even though she was a very generous person who would help anyone. But it was lovely that she reconnected with all her old friends, and an old love, and eventually moved on with her life with a bit of encouragement from those around her.
An enjoyable, easy-reading book with a laid-back beach vibe.
Another great story by this author. The characters are really credible, the description of the area and the house made me want to visit and stay there. I could not put this book down as I so wanted to know what would happen. Well recommended.
Joanna finds out that her recently divorced husband has died in a car accident and a pregnancy girl was in the car. Her husband was a famous chef, well known for many affairs and everyone makes the same assumption. Joanna, however, picks up Angela from the hospital and takes he to her beach house located in her home town that she left 20 years ago to hide out. They then spend a lot of time talking about hiding out, the press, their pasts, I was disappointed by this book as there felt like a lot of naval gazing which wasn’t very interesting and hardly any romance at all.
another absolutely brilliant story. I felt myself get pulled into Joanna’s life as I was reading through.
Would’ve loved an epilogue at the end to see how things were a year later!
I have only recently discovered Sarah Morgan having read about 3 books so far. But I will be going to see which others are available now.
Yay! Another amazing book from the equally amazing Sarah. I was get excited when I new one pops up. Yet again great likeable characters and engaging plot. Perfect summer read.
SARAH MORGAN – BEACH HOUSE SUMMER ****
I read this novel in advance of publication through NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Beach House Summer is told from the point of view of three women. Ashley, the youngest, about to discover who her real father is; Joanna, the main protagonist, divorced from her celebrity TV chef husband yet hounded by paparazzi; and Joanna’s friend from decades ago, Mel, who still lives in the quaint seaside town Joanna grew up in and where she still owns a home virtually on the beach. And Mel’s twin brother, the man Joanna was dumped by all those years ago.
When the TV chef shoots off the road in his car at the beginning of the story and is killed, press speculation about the young woman found with him fills the tabloid pages. And how this tidal wave of press intrusion affects all three women and the folk who live in the town is the bulk of this story.
This is an easy-to-read story, with plenty of twists and turns, and a very good visual sense of place – you can see the ocean and its breakers, you get to know all the townsfolk so that you feel you are walking amongst them. My only criticism is that sometimes the story seems to repeat itself. The same ground is talked about by different characters rather than the reader learning anything new. But a very pleasant enjoyable read, nevertheless.
Joanna Whitman hates the limelight associated with being married to a famous media chef and a string of infidelities. Even though she has been divorced for a year she can't avoid the media attention especially now he has died in a car crash. She feels sorry for the young woman who was also in the crash and is attracting the press. She decides its time to disappear and her thoughts turn to her hometown, she hasn't returned for 20 years but no-one needs to see her if she hides in her gated beach house. Another entertaining story from Sarah Morgan, she writes characters that you care about and want them to do well despite the turmoil in their lives.
Sarah Morgan's writing is a total dream. As always she totally captivates me and I read this awesome book in one sitting. I couldn't get enough.
From page 1 I thought I saw it coming on what was happening, I thought it was another predictable romcom - however I was wrong which was a pleasant surprise (I love that she did that) and it was a total delight from beginning to end.
As always, Sarah creates absolutely delightful characters, they sweep you off your feet and you totally fall in love with them. I loved the baggage and drama they all bought to the table. In fact I loved everything about it - it even triggered some holiday memories of my own and gave me itchy feet, desperate for my own beach house escape.
A totally captivating romance, an easy recommend for all romance readers (and all readers who generally want some happy in their lives)
I absolutely loved this story from Sarah. It was a fascinating story of love and friendship. I was thoroughly hooked on the story from the beginning to the very end. I can't imagine a life being under the scrutiny of the press. How awful would that be living your life hidden away and being unable to live your life to the full. That was what Joanna's life was like until Ashley came along. I love how that friendship developed and how amazingly thoughtful and helpful Joanna was to Ashley. They both helped each other so well. The beach house sounded absolutely marvelous. I love happy endings and this was one really lovely ending.
Thankyou for giving me the chance to read this book. Really enjoyed it. Easy to read and enjoyable! Would definitely recommend. A weekend read!
I enjoyed The Beach House Summer which is told through the point of view of three different women.
This is a story of love, heartbreak, friendship, starting again and community.
Joanna was married to celebrity chef and serial womaniser Cliff Whitman and after 20 years of marriage she finally divorces him.
Ashley is the passenger in Cliff’s car during a fateful crash where she manages to survive but Cliff does not.
News of Cliff's death makes the headlines and Ashely is identified as the passenger and is rumoured to be pregnant with his child.
In an attempt to avoid the relentless attention from the media that both women will inevitably face, to Ashley's astonishment, Joanna suggests they escape together to her beach house in the small home town that she left two decades ago.
Joanna’s secluded beach house sounds like the perfect place to escape too with a private beach and envious coastal views.
As the two women hide away from the media’s lens, an unlikely friendship begins to blossom with the two each teaching other new things.
Melanie is Joanna’s childhood friend but they two haven’t seen each other for 20 years until Mel spots Joanna on a rock after an early swim and decides to drop by unannounced.
This is a cosy read, particularly when the story moves to the small town where the friendships blossom and the community spirit is so strong.
My only gripe is that I wish we’d got to know more about the community and see Joanna blossom more here.
Thank you HQ and NetGalley for the ARC, in exchange for an honest review.
What a lovely book this was to read. Nothing complicated, just a great storyline with great characters that you enjoy reading what happens to them.
