Thank you Netgalley, BookBuzz.net and Steven Deighan for the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review!

I had a good time with this story.
Bethany is a young women who is sexually assaults by a group of guys in skeleton costumes. She is then passed and takes revenge leaving a trail of bodies in her path. I like that our main character struggles with what she is becoming.
I’m giving this one 3 stars just because the ending didn’t really make any sense and seemed really abrupt.

A very good read. I highly enjoyed the places this book took me. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more from this author in the future.

“This is not a pleasant story…”

Intelligent, beautiful; 16-yearr-old Bethany Childs is now officially a young woman with her whole life ahead of her. But, that innocence is savagely taken away on the night of her birthday, and a part of her won’t let it go.

Under the wing of an age-old demon – who facilitates Bethany’s revenge by imbuing the girl with supernatural powers – Bethany reveals her story in a ‘no-nonsense’ fashion, apologizing not for her torment nor asking for sympathy, but pleading for an understanding of the demonic forces she employs, and the fatalities that ensue in her wake.

“It is not the future I saw for myself…” If Bethany is to believe in herself once again, and renounce Hell’s brutal, iniquitous ways, she will need to open her eyes and heart to a world that will never be the way she remembers. Only then can there be salvation in her name.

This was a hard one to rate because there were elements of it that I found good but there were also bits of it I just didn’t enjoy.

To me the biggest problem was that it was a storyline that would have been best suited to a short story rather than a novella and as a result it felt fluffed out with unnecessary information that took away from the main plot.

I enjoyed the revenge idea and the twisted torment that Bethany endured at the hands of her abusers as well as the entity inside her, waiting to see what horrible punishment she had next lined up! However, the story was just lacking something.

I thought the writing style was basic and generic and I found myself unable to relate to any of the characters. Sadly, not a ‘pleasant story’ indeed.

Did not finish. Wasn't for me, and felt extremely inappropriate. Wish I wouldn't have requested it, since I hate not finishing books.

Bethany Chiller by Steven Deighan was received directly from the publisher and I chose to review it. With the description, I really wanted to like this book more than I did. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying it is a bad book or I didn't like it, I just wanted to like it more. A book about demon possession and revenge on rapists sounds like it would be full of all things I like in a book. some authors could have me up all night reading about these type of shenanigans, though modern authors, generally not so much. If these topics sound good to you, certainly give this book a read.

2.5 stars!

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me an ARC in exchange for a review.

I enjoyed some of this and felt the story would have worked really well and interesting if it was longer. Reading about Bethany getting revenge and how Amy was pushing her to get it was really good but it felt rushed and, for me, the ending felt very flat and not good for how the story could have gone.

It felt like it just suddenly stopped and done. I felt like I was almost reading a different story near the end which was odd.

This was a fresh take on a possession story. Bethany is your normal teenage girl who is celebrating her 16th birthday on Halloween. Unfortunately for her, this night ends horribly at the hand of 4 boys dressed as skeletons. This opens the door for a demonic entity to give her powers to extract revenge.

I really enjoyed it but I'm not a fan of the religious aspect. Also, I'm going to be very disappointed when I don't see Gérard Butler at the beach!

First off, I want to thank Netgalley, BookBuzz.net and Steven Deighan for the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review!

TW: Sexual Assault

Sweet and innocent Bethany Childs is trapped in an upstairs bedroom by four costumed strangers on the night of her 16th birthday/Halloween, she is sexually assaulted. This is the story of the revenge unleashed on her attackers with the help of a demon who calls herself "Amy"

Amy seduces Bethany with the promise of giving her the power to make her attackers suffer for their crimes, thus creating Bethany Chiller who is the evil darkness within Bethany that hungers for brutal revenge. Bethany's conscience fights against her darker side as she struggles with the person she is becoming and the trail of bodies she leaves behind.

This book was very entertaining and easy to read, I really liked Bethany's character and the internal struggle she fights throughout the story, she gave me a teen demonic Lisbeth Salander vibe when Bethany Chiller took over! I pictured a “BAMF” in mind whenever she would dress up and visit her attackers.

However, the story itself felt very short and rushed, it could have been fleshed out a lot more into a longer book to include more about Bethany's friends and families as they seem to play an important role in Bethany's life but are fleeting characters within the story. Also, there was no form of consequence for Bethany refusing to fulfil her part of the bargain she made with Amy, the story just ended, and it was all "Happily Ever After"

Overall, I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Steven Deighan in the future.

TW: Pedophilia, rape

Bethany has her whole life ahead of her, until a brutal assault on her 16th birthday derails everything. Guided by a demon, she uses her newfound powers to seek revenge.

DNF @ 27%

If I'm being totally honest, I wanted to DNF this much sooner, but I held out hoping I would change my mind. The premise sounded really interesting, like if Carrie and Pazuzu teamed up with Jennifer Hills of I Spit on Your Grave. However, I unfortunately saw none of that in the story. Perhaps if I had stuck with it it would have paid off, but I didn't enjoy the writing style. Additionally, I felt that Bethany's inner monologue was disjointed. Sometimes it would sound like the perspective of a 16-year-old (though the language, in my opinion, was often much more juvenile), but often it would read like a middle-aged person's perspective. Perhaps this is due to the events of the book and the demonic influence on her life, but it was awkward to read. Unfortunately this one just didn't work for me.

TW: Pedophilia, rape

I never would have picked this up if I'd known there would be so much talk of a young girl's breasts. I found this inappropriate and it takes it's time getting to the demonic parts. I didn't get any Carrie or The Exorcist vibes from this. The book just wasn't what I thought it would be.
