3 stars

A collection of speculative flash fiction (1,000 words or less) stories, ranging from wry parodies of capitalism, to domestic conflicts, to alien stories with twisty endings. I sincerely enjoyed about half of the 25 stories in the anthology, & the rest were fine.

[What I liked:]

•Several of these stories had great zinger endings, like “The Future Is Always Perfect”, “Bright Future”, “A New Line In Humans”, and “Unknowable Things”.

•I also enjoyed the more poignant, thought provoking stories, like “Facing The Void”, “Freezer Burn”, and “The Perpetuals”.

•I really liked the art! Each story is illustrated with “color, retro sci-fi artwork” that looks straight out of a classic comic book (but weirder).

[What I didn’t like as much:]

•A few of the stories didn’t do much for me. “There Is No Future” was too on the nose. I had a hard time understanding the endings to “Uncle Millie’s Pocketwatch” (though I liked its premise), “When Time Travel Goes Awry”, & “Fuel Post B436.903”.

CW: murder, cannibalism, accidental death

[I received an ARC ebook copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Thank you for the book!]
