I loved that this book was set on the Titanic. The characters were compelling and wanted to know what happened to them.i enjoyed the story

5 stars for this one, seriously a great read; I devoured it in no time and wanted more! Very fast paced you gotta keep up with this one, brilliant book with a surprising ending!

Pregnant lily is on the titanic with her husband. Lawrence is also on the titanic but doesn't want to reach new York. When they meet they help each other face their problem lives. A slow burner but we'll written.

This was pretty slow starting. In fact I didnt find myself interested until Lawrence and Lily met. Then the story really started.
While Lawrence seemed the more interesting character I do wish the mention of his wife was less. Mentioning her every 5 seconds just took me out of his POV a little.
The plot itself became a little obvious as time went on. With how the people around Lily were acting.
I was intrigued by this being set on the Titanic as we know how that ends I was intrigued to see how this story would.
But nonetheless I did enjoy the book.

This is an absolute gem!!! I’ve been so excited about this book and it hasn’t disappointed.absolutely will be recommending this book to anyone who will listen to me.

I usually enjoy this author’s books but this was not for me. But to be fair it was the story rather than the writing skill. I will look forward to her next novel as her Our Kind of Cruelty is a spectacular book.

This was a beautifully written story. I wrongly assumed that the history of the Titanic would be a bit of a spoiler for the ending, but it really was juat set on the ship, not about it. The characters were difficult to warm to and although I found the story a little predictable, it was an enjoyable mystery to read.

I really enjoyed this once I sat down and got into it! I was a bit unsure to start with but I loved Hall's work, so carried on and ended up loving it! Anything related to history is always a win with me - then you read the author's note 😍

This sad novel tells the story of Lily who in April 1912 boards The Titanic with her husband Henry. Finally pregnant with their first child, Lily should have been happy, but her marriage is in a terrible state and even her maid has taken against her.
The story is fairly on Lily's predicament rather than on the disaster itself, which while an important aspect of our foremother's lives, made for quite a gloomy read.

An emotional historical novel, all the more poignant when you realise that it was based on events in the author's own family history. In the novel, pregnant Lily and her bullying husband Harry are on board the Titanic, sailing across the seas back to America, Lily is becoming increasingly wary of Harry who is hiding something from her, but has few places to turn to for help. She meets a widower on board, Lawrence, who lost his beloved wife. Can he provide the reassurance and support that Lily so desperately needs?
The story is character-driven but with the overarching knowledge that it is set on board the most infamous boat in history, and the anticipation that we as readers have. The tale was full of suspense and tension, and the pacing kept me gripped. Thank you to Netgalley for the chance to read it!

Hidden Depths by Araminta Hall
I find novels about the Titanic irresistible and so I was drawn to this. This is also an author whose novels I have enjoyed before. However, while this is well-written and the principal characters are beautifully drawn (Lily, Lawrence and Becky), this is one of those stories that I knew exactly how it would develop and end before I read it - and I don't mean the Titanic sinking, which takes up little of the novel. The story is such a familiar one and the Titanic's sinking seems all too convenient. But there is something genuinely heartbreaking about Lawrence, made even more poignant when you read the author's afterword.

I can never resist books set on the Titanic so was thrilled to get my hands on this one! Hidden Depths follows Lily who is pregnant and increasingly unwell. She doesn’t trust her husband but because of feeling so awful and now being trapped on a ship she is limited in what she can do. On board Titanic she meets Lawrence, who is grieving the loss of his wife, and the two start talking. I loved that Lawrence’s late wife had been part of the suffragette movement and that he had eventually learnt the importance of listening to women and understanding their plight. The novel is increasingly tense as we know what is going to happen to the Titanic but we don’t know if Lily will be able to figure out what is happening within her marriage, or who will survive. I found some parts of this book really gripping but other parts I found quite slow; on the whole though I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Set on, but not about the sinking of The Titanic, this is a wonderful tale inspired by the author's family history.
Lily (Lady Ellsworth) is travelling to America with her husband, maid and doctor to have her baby near her family - weak and unwell, she also feels like she is losing her mind. Unable to get over his beloved wife's death, Laurence plans to end his life by throwing himself from the ship. After forming an unlikely friendship their journey ends very differently than either expected when embarking, but not because the ship sank.
A wonderfully written, multilayered, well crafted, nailbiting story of good versus evil, gaslighting, betrayal and control. It casts light on the oppression of women and the extreme cruelty of the men who subjugated them.
With complex characters, a fantastic setting and a hell of a plot this was totally immersive and I'd recommend this to anyone who loves a good historical psychological drama.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this gem!

A beautifully written story that had surprisingly more tension than I thought. I assumed that because we all know what happened to the Titanic that the ending might be a foregone conclusion but the author kept the mystery going quite nicely. I didn’t warm to the characters however as they seemed a bit too predictable.

Thank you to the publishers for sending me an early copy of this book
This book was really good. I read it over the space of a day, it was so gripping and I found myself wondering back to my book, whilst undertaking household chores!
This book is incredibly well written and it is clear from the first page that the author has heavily researched this topic to make the story and the characters as believable as possible
The novel is full of deception, lies and secrets and is a real page turner
I highly recommend anyone who reads this book, reads the author note too, as it adds a whole new meaning to the book.

This is a page turner I couldn't stop reading, a book that moved me and kept me turning pages.
It's a a story that keeps you immersed in the minds of the characters, makes you hope that everything will be fine, and makes you feel for them.
I loved what I read, a well plotted and riveting story. Great characters and storytelling.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Hidden Depths is an extremely well crafted novel that builds slowly with beautiful descriptions of the characters and the claustrophobic tension creeps through each chapter. Araminta Hall has a wonderful ability to create a story that pulls you in and you are on the journey on the Titanic. She is able to portray the social constraints and norms of the time through Lucy and Lawrence. It is a compelling novel and a very satisfying read. Read it! #NetGalley #HiddenDepths

My most favourite thing about this book is the complete immersion. I 100% believed that I was with these characters and was watching everything evolve right it front of my eyes. I mean wow. This author completely knows how to write a really gripping completely immersive storyline. Make sure you set aside plenty of hours to give this book your undivided attention. I promise you, you won't be sorry.

I have loved all of Araminta Hall's novels and was thrilled to receive a digital ARC of Hidden Depths. It is a particularly poignant novel as the author based Lawrence on one of her own family members and the research and attention to detail is amazing. Lily is on board the Titantic to visit her family in America, she is pregnant and travelling with her husband Henry, her maid and personal physician. Lily is an American heiress whose family fortunes have saved the property of upper class Henry. We discover that Henry has been gaslighting Lily - he is controlling and an abuser and Lily fears for her life. Widower Lawrence is also on board grieving the loss of his suffragette wife Cissy and has plans to leave the ship before it reaches New York. How can Lawrence help save Lily and himself ?
Hidden Depths is a stunning novel, Hall really brings this period of history to life and I became immersed in the worlds of Lawrence and Lily. It is a slow burn psychological thriller with great characterisation and beautifully detailed descriptive sections. I found the description of Lily's relationship with Henry particularly well portrayed and highlights the appalling and powerless position of women in society at this time and illustrates clearly what Cissy was fighting for. A moving and compelling read that I would highly recommend. Do take time to read the author's note at the end of the novel too.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.
4.5 stars

This book is so good. The characters and their experiences on board the Titanic so well described that you can believe you are their watching them.
Lily is travelling with her husband, maid and doctor to have her baby in the US, near her family. While travelling she meets Laurence, who intends to end his life after the death of his wife, Cissy.
I loved the juxtaposition of Lily and Cissy, two married females from good backgrounds, with two very different husbands and two very different outlooks.
Henry is the bad guy that you love to hate, his behaviour and that of the “doctor” turned my stomach.
One of the things I really loved was the description of the Titanic going down, no mass hysteria and panic. Everything was very controlled, but then there are the questions as to why not everyone could be saved.
The authors notes at the back were a fabulous addition, giving us insight into Laurence, I loved this addition and enjoyed reading these as much as the novel.
