Another compelling read from Karin Slaughter. I’m a big fan of her work, especially the Grant County books, but this standalone did not disappoint.

Intriguing, gripping and action packed, if you like crime fiction you won’t be disappointed.

In my opinion, Karin Slaughter is the Queen of her genre. I am fairly certain that if she wrote a telephone directory I would read and absorb it with the same enthusiasm and joy that I read all of her books with. Would absolutely recommend

Another incredible read from Karin slaughter, but I'm biased. She could write an instruction manual and I'm sure I would still love it.
I loved being back with these characters again and cant wait for it to become a series. I loved that we got to see more of the characters and the introduction of new ones. Not as gory as her other series so Pieces of Her would be a brilliant start for Slaughter beginners.

Thank you to HarperCollins UK HarperFiction for the the e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was excited to spot it this and be approved just after I had watched and thoroughly enjoyed the Netflix TV series Pieces of Her, which starred Toni Collette and Bella Heathcote as the two main characters, Laura and Andy Oliver.

Girl Forgotten takes place after the first book and Andy, who now calls herself Andrea, is starting again and has just completed her training as a US Marshall. She's just about to start her first assignment, which is to look after a Judge' who has been getting death threats. Her daughter Emily, was brutally attached and murdered many years ago and Andrea and her partner Leonard Bible are trying to figure out if they can charge the killer.

The dual timeline between the current time with Andrea and 1982 with Emily helps us to understand the situation and the plot really starts to thicken with lots of twists and turns along the way.

A great thriller and will definitely go back and read the first book and others by Karin Slaughter. My biggest negative was there was some pretty bad language at times, and although I don't mind it, others may not.

The book follows Andrea, a newly qualified US Marshal on her first assignment protecting a judge and with a secondary objective to uncover who murdered a young girl, Emily, forty years prior. The narrative jumps between the two timelines of Andrea and Emily.

It is a great book; the plot is unpredictable and complex which really leaves you guessing right until the end. Some of the characters are dark, damaged and unpleasant, which leads to some quite violent scenes. Bible on the other hand added a little bit of comedy and humour, which was a nice balance against what is overall a shocking and disturbing plot.

Having watched the Netflix adaptation of Pieces of Her but not read the book, I understood some of the backstory of the characters and their respective relationships which did help. That said this novel does work as a standalone book.

Very entertaining read that I would recommend.

Many thanks to HarperCollins and Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I have read and enjoyed many of Karin Slaughters books and this one has not disappointed. The plot was really interesting and I could not put the book down, a true page turner. Recommended wholeheartedly.

I’ve been a fan of Karin Slaughter from her first novel, and she seldom disappoints.
Before reading this novel, read ‘Pieces of Her’.
In ‘Girl, Forgotten, a newly qualified US Marshal is thrown in at the deep end, ostensibly on a bodyguarding assignment, but also, because of her personal connections, to try and solve an old murder.

Several plot lines combine well in this novel, and you are kept guessing almost to the end. I very much enjoyed it. Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC.

PLEASE NOTE - FOR REASONS UNCLEAR TO ME THE KARIN SLAUGHTER BOOK I READ AS ‘FALSE WITNESS’ HAS APPEARED IN MY REVIEW AS GIRL FORGOTTEN. FOR THE AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT, THIS IS A REVIEW OF ‘FALSE WITNESS’.

Karin Slaughter can always be relied upon to write in a style that draws the reader into the story with easy fluency and well constructed depth to all the key characters. ‘Girl Forgotten’ is no exception and, as expected, builds a relentless tempo as the novel reaches its conclusion. Fear of being discovered as the perpetrators of a long ago serious crime must be every guilty party’s worst nightmare, and this is the central theme of the book. Stirred into this possibility is the thought that the person who has discovered the guilty secret wishes to use this knowledge to pile on even more risk and jeopardy.
So far, then, this is an excellent offering from Ms Slaughter. For this reader, though, the current fashion to build a story around extreme violence against women, including graphic descriptions of injuries does not add to the appeal. However, in all other respects this was a good read and can be recommended.

I love Karin Slaughter, she is on my auto read list and I really look forward to her new books coming out. My favourite series ever is her Will Trent series and he is one of my all time fave characters. I didn’t know this book was a sequel to Pieces of Her, and I hate to say it’s the only book of Karins that I didn’t particularly enjoy BUT this I loved, I found the plot so much more believable and it is classic Karin with the back story as well as current time, it keeps you guessing til the end and grips you on the edge of your seat as only Karin can. Thank You to Netgalley and the Publisher for the pleasure of reading this early copy.

Andrea Oliver, who we met in Pieces of Her, is back but now is a freshly trained US Marshal. Her uncle is still trying to pull strings, her parents are far from happy over her choice of employment and her complicated romantic life is about to impact her professional life.

Longbill Beach 1982 sees 17 yr old Emily is pregnant and determined to attend her prom. She is later found murdered - there were suspects but no-one was ever charged.

Fast forward 40 years and it's revealed that the judge Andrea has been ordered to protect is the mother of Emily. Andrea now has to protect the judge, all whilst carrying on a side investigation into the murder of Emily - one that may just involve her birth father, the currently imprisoned Clayton Morrow AKA Nicholas Harp, who is due for parole soon and she intends to see him rot in prison if he is involved.

I enjoyed being back in Andrea's world. I loved Pieces of Me and I really enjoyed getting to meet these new characters, especially Marshal Leonard 'Catfish' Bible, his boss/wife Deputy Chief Cecilia Compton who provide some levity in an otherwise dark thriller.

We see Emily attempt to investigate her own assault in flashbacks. Andrea and Catfish also come across a young woman's "suicide" on a fava bean farm owned by one of Emily's friends. Are these crimes related?

Compulsive, compelling, suspenseful and there is that much-needed vein of humour.

A return to top form from my favourite author. Andrea Oliver is back;on her first job as a US marshal. What follows is a fast-paced story with well-written characters, I couldn't put it down! Thank you Net Galley

Karin Slaughter has brought back her Andrea Oliver character in this tense thriller, first seen in Pieces of Her, which I didn't read. In Girl, Forgotten Andrea has completed her training and becomes a US Marshall, something her parents, Laura and Gordon, are not pleased about.

It's prom night at Longbill Beach and the year is 1982. Emily Vaughn, 17 years old, is all ready, dressed in a turquoise satin prom frock but she doesn't know that later, she will be dead. Forty years later Emily's murderer remains free, but Andrea's first case as a US Marshal sees her on a mission to protect a judge who is receiving death threats. The judge in question is in fact Emily‘s mother. Can Emily and her partner and mentor, the experienced Marshall Leonard 'Catfish' Bible, also use the opportunity to try to discover the truth about who killed Emily?

The plot is complex but engrossing. The characters are strong and endearing. This reader will be grabbing a copy of the series début and awaiting book three.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HarperCollins via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Girl, Forgotten by one of my all time favourite author, Karin Slaughter, is the sequel to ‘Pieces of Her’ and as expected it is just as explosive…love, love, loved it.
In short, Andrea Oliver is now a US Marshall and we follow her on her first assignment, which happens to be very personal to her!
This book is another exceptionally smart and harrowing read by Karin, the master storyteller, who in my opinion always stands out amongst the masses of crime thrillers out there. She always delivers action packed plotting and unforgettably vivid cast of characters. Highly recommended.
Big thanks to Karin Slaughter, HarperCollins UK and NetGalley for this eARC which I chose to read in return for my honest review.

Another great book from Karin Slaughter, second in series and although probably better to have read the first it isn’t really necessary. It is set in two time periods and is based in n US Marshal Andrea Oliver, an unsolved murder case and is full of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. A great thriller.

Girl Forgotten starts in 1981 with a pregnant teenager named Emily Vaughan being brutally murdered. It's a cracker of a start and doesn't let up from there. Regular readers of Karin Slaughter will be familiar with the character of Andrea Oliver. Andy is now a newly qualified Deputy Marshal and os looking forward to her first post. Her uncle Jasper turns up at her graduation and persuades her to accept the posting he has organised for her. Naturally, Jasper has his own agenda. He is sending Andy to Longbill Beach, ostensibly to guard a judge who is receiving death threats. Longbill Beach just happens to be the hometown of Nick Harp, Andy's felon father. He wants Andy to find proof he committed the murder of Emily Vaughan therefore keeping him in prison. I read this book in a few sittings. Very enjoyable. Thank you NetGalley for my advance copy.

This was everything you need for a thriller and crime story. It is not as black and white as you first think and like most typical thrillers, is full of twists. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

I loved all the Grant County books that Slaughter wrote but jphave failed to be anywhere near as thrilled by her more recent offerings.
I didn’t like the early part of this one particularly but it did improve when the timescale moved on. Simply not for me unfortunately.

I enjoyed this although having read the previous novel it didn’t all click into place as quickly as I had hoped.
A typical Karin slaughter thriller a nice bit of escapism

I absolutely love Karin Slaughter and this is just as brilliant as all the rest. I hadn’t realised it was a sequel to Pieces of Her but was delighted when I recognised the characters - especially as I love her other series and staying with her excellent characters. Just a great read, which kept me guessing while keeping me entertained in the meantime.
