Okay wow!
I was not expecting to become so obsessed as I was with this one!
We start in the 1980s where a girl is about 7 months pregnant, she's been shamed by her friends, family etc and been expelled from school. However, she decides that she doesn't want to miss out on going to her prom. As Emily makes her way to prom the reader is introduced to several male characters, friends and a teacher, all of who could be the potential father to her baby.
After the introduction we then move to the present day and Andrea has just made it to join the USMS Marshall, her first assigned is to watch a federal judge following the death threats and dead rat which have been sent to her. In addition to this, Andrea is on a secret mission to link her father to the murder of the judge's daughter in the 1980s.
This was such an interesting read with what is happening in America right now and the overturn of Roe. The covers interesting topics such as abortion and the varying views on this, rape and victim blaming, grief and bereavement.
As with other Karin Slaughter books I've read, this was so well written and found myself staying up late many nights to try and get this read asap. I was absolutely hooked! and loved every second of it.

Small towns hide the biggest secrets !
Andrea Oliver is back and now she has a badge and about to start her first assignment.
I love stories that go back and forth in 2 timelines. I am a big fan of karin Slaughter and I enjoyed Pieces of Her and this one did not disappoint and had me gripped from the start I think I actually liked this book more than the first one. My only complaint is for a Thriller the chapters were far too long but still a enjoyable read.
Thank you to Netgalley, Harper Collins UK and Karin Slaughter for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

As ever with Karin Slaughter's books, I enjoyed reading this well written, superbly plotted novel with an ending that keeps you guessing to the final conclusion. For some reason however I found it a little difficult to relate to some of the characters and if anything do not consider it as good as some of her other recent offerings.

Karin Slaughter never let's me down. Always a great read and Girl Forgotten was definitely ace.
I requested this without even reading the synopsis as I know I just needed to read it so when I found put it was a continuation of Andrea and Laura's story I was so pleased.
Karin Slaughters usp is her ability to continue the story of characters through many books without losing momentum. The Will tTrent series is a definite recommendation. I'm really looking forward to more stories about Andrea.
This book did not disappoint. Even though it is book 2, I feel it could also be an excellent stand alone novel..
A dual timeline ran with alternative chapters. The historical story of Emily's brutal death brings Andrea to the home town of her father and an interesting case pursues. Andrea is now a Marshall and her job is to protect Emilys mother who has been receiving threats. She keeps her intentions to herself and doesn't want her partner Bible to know her second motive.
All in all an excellent book..

Absolutely loved the book!
The pacing was great, I loved the characters, they were relatable. The location and the mystery - chef's kiss!
The novel was truly unputdownable! This was my first book from Karin Slaughter, but boy oh boy, not sure what made me wait for so long! This definitely won't be the last!
Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC!

When I first heard the synopsis of this novel, I wasn't entirely sure if I was desperate to read this one. I really enjoyed Pieces of Me when it was published a few years ago but I didn't necessarily feel a need to return to the world two years later. I found Andrea as a protagonist interesting but, at times, annoyingly docile and submissive in Pieces of Me. I was wrong; I really hope Karin Slaughter continues with this series and one of my favourite parts about Girl, Forgotten was seeing Andrea grow.
Girl, Forgotten is a dual timeline thriller following Andrea, in her first role as a US Marshal, investigating the unsolved brutal murder of a teenage pregnant girl forty years ago. From the first chapter, the reader is on a rollercoaster ride with twists and turns galore. What is perhaps most notable is I found both timelines equally addictive; it is possibly even more successful than its predecessor at concocting two equally riveting narratives.
The ending seems to leave room for a third novel - I really hope this is the case!

Girl, Forgotten is the second in the Andrea Oliver series, written by Karin Slaughter. This book is set two years after Pieces of Her concludes. The shadow of what Andrea has discovered of her’s, and her Mother’s, lives and history, still casts a long shadow over Andrea’s current life, and career.
Most of the people in Emily's young life are deeply unpleasant people with quite shocking attitudes towards women. Attitudes that Andy finds alive and well when she comes across the same people 4 decades later.
This is a great, book. plenty of twists and red herrings with the ending leaving potential for more in the series.
I enjoyed this book far more than Pieces of Her.

Thank you to #NetGalley for my advance copy of #Girl,Forgotton by #KarinSlaughter
What a fantastic read.
Andrea Oliver has just completed her training as a US Marshall when she is handed her first assignment as a bodyguard to a judge receiving death threats.
If you haven’t read the first book about Andrea Oliver, Pieces of Me, here is where you will pick up enough to enjoy the book as a standalone.
Absolutely gripping book which will have you changing your mind about the guilty party again and again.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I didn’t realise this was a sequel to an earlier book. I read it as a stand-alone and did not feel I should have read the first (although I now want to read it!)
This was one of those books that totally got under my skin. I was thinking about it when I wasn’t reading and staying up far too late to keep reading.
It was set on a dual timeline and I thought it was done really well.
If you enjoy thriller/suspense genre you will love this. I hope there will be a follow up as really liked the main characters.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #HarperCollins for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. #GirlForgtten #KarinSlaughter

Girl Forgotten is the sequel to Karin's 2019 novel Pieces of Her but I read it absolutely fine as a stand alone.
This is a bit of a chunk of a book but after the first few pages I was completely invested in the storyline and raced pretty quickly through the rest of the book.
The story is told via a dual timeline, focusing on 1982 and the unsolved murder of Emily Vaughn and present day events which see Andrea, a newly qualified US Marshall on her first assignment.
I love a dual timeline and this one was especially exquisite in the execution. It kept me on the edge the whole way through.
The trigger warnings are pretty hefty in this book. Swipe for more details. So some of the subjects touched upon make for difficult reading but as you would expect they are woven immaculately into the storyline and are dealt with extremely well.
The tension just keeps building up throughout and I was torn between desperately trying to get to the end and wanting it to last longer!
This is a must read for everyone. Whether you are a die hard Slaughter fan or new to her work.
🌟🌟🌟🌟💫 from me.

Rounded up to 5 stars
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC, in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
Another fabulous read from Karin Slaughter.
Girl, Forgotten is the sequel to Pieces Of Her but reads perfectly well as a standalone; I haven’t read the prequel but my interest has definitely been piqued — another one to add to my (ever-growing) list.
As with other Karin Slaughter novels, Girl, Forgotten is well-written and easy to read. Slaughter is an expert storyteller; the book is gripping and deftly plotted with superb attention to detail. The small town setting provides a wonderful backdrop and adds an extra layer to the feeling of tension and suspense.
I love a dual timeline, particularly when one narrative is set in the 1980s. Told from the point of view of Emily in 1982 and Andrea in the present day; the chapters flow seamlessly between the dual narratives and the two stories knit neatly together.
The characterisation is excellent, with a well-developed, believable cast — I particularly warmed to Andrea and her likeable partner Bible. I felt so sorry for Emily and angry at the appalling way she was treated.
I thoroughly enjoyed this engaging, twisty read. The chapters are quite long, but apart from that I loved it!

A worthy sequel to Pieces of Her. I thought the Netflix series of Pieces of Her was great but the book was way better. This is even better. Great story and I really like the character of Andrea and how she has changed and grown since the first book.
Thanks to the author, publisher and netgalley for this advance digital copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Highly recommended.

You can’t go wrong with a novel by Slaughter, she always provide a gripping read full of twists and this story certainly lives up to that! This novel is the second book in the Andrea Oliver series which seems to be establishing itself as a good series. Worth a read

My thanks to HarperCollins U.K. for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘Girl, Forgotten’ by Karin Slaughter.
This is Book 2 in her series featuring Andrea Oliver. I am a huge fan, always excited to read her latest. I complemented this with its unabridged audiobook edition.
I read the first book, ‘Pieces of Her’ in 2018, though background is provided for new readers and was certainly useful to refresh my memory after four years.
1982, Longbill Beach, Delaware. Emily Vaughn is getting ready to crash her senior prom. While usually the highlight of the high school experience, Emily has been forbidden to attend and is a pariah as far as her classmates are concerned. However, she is determined to confront them and reveal the secret that she’s been forced to conceal. it’s an evening that Emily won’t survive.
Forty years later, Emily’s murder remains unsolved. Her wealthy, influential family and her friends closed ranks, and the community has long moved on.
Newly minted US Marshal Andrea Oliver arrives in town on an assignment to protect a federal judge who has been receiving death threats. The judge in question is Emily’s mother. Yet Andrea has a covert assignment that links to her past and involves seeking justice for Emily. No further details to avoid spoilers.
The narrative is split between the present and events in 1981-82 leading up to Prom Night.
Karin Slaughter is an author that I can always count on to deliver a fast paced, nail biting crime thriller. Her novels are admittedly dark and disturbing but I would expect readers to be aware that she isn’t known for writing cosy mysteries.
Given the popularity of the Netflix series of ‘Pieces of Her’, hoping that there won’t be a too long wait for Book 3.
As always, highly recommended.

Karin Slaughter is an author whose new books are a must read for me. Girl, Forgotten is the follow up book to Pieces of Her and I’d recommend that you read that book first for background to Andrea Oliver’s character and upbringing which are an important part of this story.
This is a different Andrea Oliver to the one we met in Pieces of Her. Now Andrea has just completed her training with the US Marshal Service and is about to be launched into the world as a fully-fledged Marshal. Her mother Laura is less than happy about this because Laura’s birth father, the psychopath Clayton Morrow (also known as Nick Harp) is incarcerated and due for parole consideration in six months and Laura knows that Morrow will be keeping tabs on Andrea. Michael Vargas, a US Marshal whom Andrea has known for years as part of her and her mother’s life, also has a role in this book
Andrea is teamed with Leonard Bible, an experienced Marshall who takes no time to begin teaching Andrea the ropes. Bible is a kind and clever man who teaches well and introduces Andrea to his ‘rules’. Their first case together is protecting Judge Esther Vaughn who has been receiving death threats. Bible, it transpires, is married to Deputy Chief Cecilia Compton and there’s a lot of humour in the way this couple switch from boss and subordinate to husband and wife.
This is no coincidence. Andrea has plans that she has divulged to no-one. She intends to investigate a cold case from 40 years ago. Emily Vaughan, the judge’s daughter, was brutally murdered at Longbill Beach. Only 17 years old, heavily pregnant and ostracised by her friends, suffering the stern disapproval of her parents and reeling from a pregnancy that was literally forced upon her, Emily was trying to find out what happened the night she got pregnant and one of the people in her sights is Clayton Morrow, the leader of the school clique that she used to be part of. She had attended a party that her friends were giving and after taking an acid tab, had no memory at all of what had happened to her and her clique closed ranks and claimed no knowledge or responsibility, eventually turning on her and calling her a slut.
On her way back from a humiliating reception when she appeared at the school Prom, 17 year old Emily was brutally beaten to death and her murderer has never been found.
So Andrea, while protecting Emily’s mother, plans to delve into the cold case that is Emily’s murder because she wants to be able to link it to her own birth father, Clayton Morrow.
Some of those who were part of Emily’s circle are still in Longbill, notably Dean Wexler, who drove Emily home the night of the party together with Nardo, a vicious and brutal character and Ricky – once Emily’s friend but who turned on her after Emily began to try and work out who had taken advantage of her at the party. Also still in town is Jack Stilton who was never quite part of the clique but who Emily liked and made time for. Then he was the son of brutal Police Chief Stilton, now Cheese as he was always called is Police Chief himself.
Girl, Forgotten is a dual timeline story told in Andrea’s present and Emily’s past. Dean Wexler it transpires now runs a fava bean farm but it’s clear that this operation is a front for what is clearly a cult populated with young women who are emaciated shadows of the young girls they must once have been.
As the danger to Judge Vaughan escalates, so does Andrea’s investigation into who killed Emily. This is a dark and chilling story with a deal of brutality and some shocking moments of tension and revelation. Karin Slaughter’s characterisation is excellent and I really enjoyed seeing Andrea transform from a helpless disempowered young woman into someone with growing confidence who is prepared to stand up for herself.
Emily’s story is a tough one to read and her mother comes across as a tough cookie whose ruthlessness allowed her to walk all over Emily while she made sure she made it to her judgeship despite her daughter’s disgrace.
Verdict: Karin Slaughter has done a fantastic job of depicting the characters in this town full of dark secrets and evil characters. It is great to see Andrea developing into someone who feels confident about themselves and their abilities and Girl, Forgotten is a terrific and propulsive read. There could well be a series in this character.

A small town hides a big secret…
Who killed Emily Vaughn?
Prom Night. Longbill Beach, 1982. Emily Vaughn dresses carefully for what's supposed to be the highlight of any high school career. But Emily has a secret. And by the end of the night, because of that secret, she will be dead.
Nearly forty years later, Andrea Oliver, newly qualified as a US Marshal, receives her first assignment: to go to Longbill Beach to protect a judge receiving death threats. But Andrea's real focus isn't the judge – it's Emily Vaughn. Ever since she first heard Emily's name a year ago, she's been haunted by her brutal death. Nobody was ever convicted – her friends closed ranks, her family shut themselves off in their grief, the town moved on – so the killer is still out there. But now Andrea has a chance to find out what really happened…
Another thrilling read from this author!
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.
I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own honest voluntary review.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting this book release and it did not disappoint. Andy is such a strong independent woman who has been nurtured by her mother who features a lot less in this sequel. Andy has trained to become a US Marshall and is given her first assignment straight after graduation. This storyline follows Andy dealing with a lot of her own demons alongside trying to solve a cold case murder. The addition of Bible her partner is an excellent compliment to Andy and it was good to see that Mike is still present too. Many twists and turns throughout that I could not guess where the story was going at any point. Leaves you on a cliffhanger and now wandering if any further stories following Andy will be written??

Emily Vaughn is dead but it's forty years later and still, her murderer has not been found, The town has continued, people have moved on, but Andrea Oliver has been assigned to find her killer. If it's the killer they hope for; hopefully, they can keep him behind bars.
Slaughter never disappoints! A fast-paced thriller that you can't put down. I was constantly guessing, trying to work things out, overthinking the simple things, and feeling the twists like a punch to the face.
The novel has long chapters but is equally split between past and present showing how the narratives are intertwined.
Each character had their own personality and you weren't sure who to love or hate, they all kept you on your toes and brought something to the book.
Please be aware that this novel does have a lot of triggers before reading it. If you have read this author before you will know they are a heavy read, but for me, well worth it. I honestly love every book they have brought out.

Fasten your seatbelt and hold tight! This is another thrilling rollercoaster of a ride from Karin Slaughter. Tense, twisty and dark, it showcases all of Slaughter’s skills, from meticulous plotting and gripping prose to a bold and diverse cast of characters: goodies, baddies, wits and outright nutters.
We’re back with Andrea Oliver, two years on from where we left her in Pieces of Her and now a freshly qualified US Marshall. Andy’s first assignment is to protect a judge who’s been receiving death threats. But there’s an ulterior, and deeply personal, motive to this placement; one that Andy hopes might see her estranged, biological father, locked behind bars for good.
The dual timeline segues between 1982 and the unsolved murder of 17 year-old Emily Vaughan, and present day events, as Andy and her partner Bible team up for protection duty. It quickly becomes evident that there are overlaps in the two narratives; intricate connections, echoing down the years that have cast a long shadow over the seaside town of Longbill Beach.
For me there were two outstanding aspects to this story. First, Slaughter’s masterful exploitation of the dual narrative, which is so tantalizingly strung out, it really is very hard to stop reading. When the two strands do finally collide, they do so full force in a high-octane finale that leaves you reeling.
Second is Slaughter’s magnificent evocation of a small-town community, where status and respect are everything, where silence can be bought and secrets and mistakes buried. And where the brutal, unsolved murder of one of their own can be conveniently forgotten.
I love too that Slaughter manages to make a deeply complex plot such an easy read. As always, her writing is simple and fluid, in direct contrast to the intricate nature of the story; something that this author has turned into an art form.
Although this sequel can be read as a stand-alone, I would recommend first reading Pieces of Her in order to gain an understanding of Andy’s background and her relationship with her mother. Don’t rely on the TV show, which is great but diverges somewhat from the book.

I was excited to read this as I've been a fan of Karin Slaughters novels for some time, I find they are all engaging and have great Plotlines and characters. This was definitely no different and I wasn't disappointed!
An old murder, current day story that crossed over into that and progression of both the past and current plots kept me hooked. I loved the characters and realised I had missed the prequel. I will definitely be reading that as well as watching the Netflix adaptation. I hope they also turn this book into a series or film.
Can't wait for her next novel!
Thanks for NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
