Martin Venning touches on several themes in this international thriller. From assisted dying, to kidnap, to climate change and the ever present fear of nuclear power, this is a tense rollercoaster ride of suspense and intrigue. The characterization is particularly strong and there's a very clever twist right at the very end. The author writes with integrity and skill.
Very unusual and hard to classify, this book brings in many appealing aspects for readers - sensitive and even taboo subjects, family relations, international context and cultural complexities. But ultimately, the depth of the story comes from the self analysis and fundamental, existential questioning which comes with the protagonists decision to control the end of his life. I really liked this book because it was so different to anything else I have read - I hope others will give it a try.
