I received an ARC of The Cove in exchange for an honest review.

The premise of this book really appealed to me. 2 couples and their children, not that familiar with each other, on holiday on a remote island. Of course, everything then goes downhill. The weather takes a turn for the worse, people go missing, and there’s the odd twist.

Honestly, I was disappointed with this book. It’s not often I have to force myself to finish, but this was a struggle. No problem with the writing style, I just felt the story did not excite me, and this made the relatively short story drag.

I really enjoyed this book but I only got a few chapters as a pre-read!

You can’t really write a good review of you can’t read the whole book though!

I’ll buy the full version and write a proper review when I’ve read the whole book.

I read an extract of this book and could tell it was going to be a dark twisted story. I could feel the atmosphere and tension building up from the very start. It is definitely going to be on of them edge of your seat book. The author wrote a brilliant start leading the reader to create bonds with characters from the start. She also allows us to understand that each character is hiding a secret which would lead us to distrust the equally. Not knowing who to trust means its going to be a great book. I'm actually gutted I clicked on the wrong link not knowing this was only an extract. The book definitely has the storyline and scope to be a 4 or 5 star best seller it just depends on whether the rest of the book is just as good. As its an extract I could only give this book 3 stars as the extract was too short to give it anything else.

This extract has left me torn. Normally I don’t like multiple POV but each is written slightly different so it’s clear who is who from the offset. This makes it really easy to read. Short chapters are also a win, it keeps the pace throughout the story and doesn’t leave you wanting to move on. The first chapter lacks flow, you can see that the author is focused on building an atmospheric setting but the short sentences and use of multiple descriptive words makes it feel a bit disjointed.
I think it’s something I’d probably carry on reading depending on the full length of the book but wouldn’t be something I’d put on my priority list.

With thanks to Bloomsbury, NetGalley and the author for an extract copy of this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Extract copy so only the first 6 chapters available to read, but it is enough to get at least an initial introduction to each the 4 main characters making up the two couples that have travelled to the remote island paradise together for a vacation. None of the characters was particularly likeable to me at this early stage, and each one seems to have their own reason to be unhappy with at least one of the others. However, even in this short extract the author is able to convey the tensions simmering beneath the surface between the couples, so I would certainly be interested in finding out more about how the story unfolds when the opportunity arises.

Wow! I am so delighted I requested an extract of this book. It had me gripped from the start. This is the first book in absolutely ages that has held me utterly gripped from the outset.

This is (so far) a book told from multiple perspectives, set on an almost entirely secluded island with tensions simmering between the couples who have chosen to go on holiday together.

The setting is enviably gorgeous, the characters are flawed and interesting and you can sense the heat and tension is going ratchet up from here.

I can’t wait to read the rest!

Many thanks to Bloomsbury, NetGalley and the author for a copy of this ARC in exchange me e for an honest review.

An Island Paradise…?
Extract only of the forthcoming novel The Cove, promising a locked room style suspense and a score to settle. An island paradise where not everything is as it seems. A snippet and intriguing enough to want to read on.

A nice little taster. IT'S THE PERFECT ESCAPE... UNTIL THERE IS NO ESCAPE
Look forward to more from this book.

I was interested to read this extract as I was intrigued by the premise of the story and thought, if I enjoyed the extract, I may then recommend the book to be purchased for our Library.
I wasn't particularly enamoured with the extract, perhaps the extract was not long enough or the characters not developed thoroughly during the short extract, but I did not warm to the book, the style of writing or the characters.
The story is a good idea, so far, and I would be interested to see how it pans out, but, ultimately, I do not want to read the rest of it. Good idea, poor execution, personally.

I’m really grateful for the chance to read an extract of this book as now I know that this book isn’t for me. This was a taster in the form of the first 6 chapters which was enough for me to dislike the two male main characters- one of whom was a sleaze bag and negligent father who clearly wasn’t aware of his wife’s post partum depression, the other was married to the job and simply couldn’t comprehend why there was no WiFi at a hotel resort famed for being off the grid…I really didn’t want to read any more about these characters.
The extract ended before anything big happened so based on what I read, I won’t be continuing with this book

This review is based on an extract of the book I read through NetGalley.
The first 6 chapters are full of beautifully descriptive language and realistic portrayals of relationships and motherhood. I cannot wait to read the rest of the book when it is available.

I was absolutely thrilled when I saw that this is a book with multiple POVs! The writing is fantastic from the excerpt I’ve had the pleasure of reading and I can only hope to secure the full version ASAP! This is heavy on my radar

Just this short extract has left me wanting more. Just needing to know where this story goes next. I hope I can get my hands on it ASAP.

Just enough to get me hooked on the story! It's a difficult one to review because there was a lot of background, setting the scene etc and I still don't know exactly where it's going, but I definitely want to find out. The thing that jumped out at me was the descriptions of the struggle of motherhood - with a young baby myself I could definitely relate to some of the passages and thought they were very authentic and well-written. An interesting start and I am very intrigued about the rest.

Not for me - too many indistinguishable narrative voices and the setting wasn't vivid enough. Thanks very much for the opportunity to read an extract though.

This has definitely made me want to read the full book! I’m already addicted! I wasn’t expecting to be quite so gripped by a small snippet.

It’s great that there’s extracts available on Net Galley as a short extract gives you a flavour of what’s to come.

I’m sure people will enjoy this book as the locked-room mystery on a tropical island it promises to be but unfortunately these first few chapters don’t want me to read on. Maybe it’s a slow burner and if it is I’ll be kicking myself come April on publication. Perhaps I’ve just read too many POV novels recently and I’m (sun)burnt out.

Wishing the author all the best with this book.

I do enjoy an extract of a book to see if you would like it or not I wish more publishers would do this.

This extract is six chapters which I did enjoy and know I will enjoy the rest of the book, only downside there was far too many random numbers set in the sentences so found it rather off putting. -0 -1 +1 what is that all about?

That aside I would purchase this book.
