An unusual and interesting retelling of Cinderella.
The slippers belong to the stepsisters and Cinderella stole them and their happy ending. Can a group of friends get the slippers back to give Hortense and Beatrice’s their Happy Ending.
I started this not knowing it was part of a series but it didn’t really matter if I’m honest that I missed the first one out. However the author did keep adding in the novel that this is a sequel which got super annoying, she used this one as abit of self advertisement.
I really enjoyed all the fairytale references and enjoyed the overall concept that fairytales as we know them have been told wrong and these friends are on a journey to correct them. The detail as well was good and made a great twist on fairytales and a great middle grade book. Which is why I’ve given it 3*.
But there was something in it that just didn’t click and give me that wow factor. I feel like the author often repeats herself and in a way try’s too hard. I feel she maybe got all her good ideas out in the first one and then she was like damn and maybe reused some ideas or ran out abit.
Maybe I’m missing something I don’t know. But when I read reviews after finishing a lot said the first was the best.
This was book was really great!! I enjoyed it a lot, loved the characters and the world building. The cover is also so lovely.
An interesting and unusual retelling of Cinderella with some Beauty and the Beast elements.
The story is told by a different POV and I liked the storytelling and the character development.
Entertaining and engrossing.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
I love the Disney princess stories, i love them even more when they are twisted round.
Cinderella is bad to the bone but she is manipulative and people think she is perfect.
The twin sisters on the other hand are lovely but they are not being treated nicely by Cinderella.
Can Hori and Bea save there own happy ending from Cinderella and get Prince Charming to see her deceit.
I really enjoyed this book it was well written with well written and welll developed characters and a plot that was engaging the whole way through which is important for childfens fiction. I loved the fusion of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast and I cant wait for more from this author.
