This is a thriller that focuses on the power of DNA sites and social media as the background of uncovering the mystery of Wildes life. We meet Wilde who was a feral kid, left to fend for himself in the woods since he was a young boy. Now older he decides to try and find the truth about his past.
I liked the mix of characters in this book. Hester and Matthew were a great surrogate family for Wilde and help him out in his search.
This is a current up to date book that had me wanting to finish to connect the dots.
Great to get the back story of Wilde in this book, and what a book it is.
Had me turning the pages right from the start and full of action and twists.
Can't wait for more!
Having previously read Harlan Corben books which link to this series of characters, I was delighted to have access to a copy.
Having gotten to know Wilde and the mystery around his background and how he came to be abandoned in the woods, I delved into the book having fallen in love with the characters.
This book follows the fast pace of twists and turns and keeps you guessing who is behind what! I love how the story tied up a lot of things but also kept things open so the characters can return.
A must read for fans of Harlan Corben!
This was my first Harlan Coben book and it won't be my last! I'd recently watched Stay Close on Netflix and when I saw this book I was immediately interested!
Wilde was discovered alone in the woods as a small child. With no idea of his history, he sends his DNA into a matching service to see if he can find any family members. As you can imagine, this opens a whole can of worms and mystery which leaves us reeling. What is true? In true Coben style nothing is ever as it seems.
I didn't realise this was a second book about Wilde and although it works as a stand alone, I'd have preferred to read the other book first. The plot is complex and requires your full attention, but its intriguing enough that you don't want to be distracted anyway!
I very much enjoyed this book and will look to read more by this author. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for my ARC.
An intense and fast paced thriller. It was gripping and I just couldn’t stop reading. That twist at the end was nothing short of spectacular! Incredible! Highly recommend.
Wilde is a man who likes his space. He was discovered as a small boy all alone in the woods. No.one knows how long he had been there.
He had put his DNA into a genealogy website in an attempt to find his family and unravel the truth about why he had been abandoned.
He end up having to solve a few mysteries as well as a few murders.
I received a copy from Netgalley for free to review.
I have really enjoyed the recent tv adaptations of Coben's books recently and had not read any of his work so was looking forward to reading this one. To be honest, I found it hard to stay engaged with the story and struggled to read it. I liked the character Hester but struggled to feel any connection with the main character, who's name is escaping me now! Not sure if it was this book I didn't enjoy or Harlen Coben's writing style. I really wanted to enjoy this book but found it average. Sorry!
Another excellent rollercoaster of a read that keeps you guessing till the end… loved it! Harlan coben never disappoints!
I have just spent about four days with Wilde. As a small child Wilde was found lost and alone wandering around the woods. No-one knew how long he had been there, no-one had reported him missing, no-one was looking for him. Wilde was too young to remember what had happened. Now, as an adult, Wilde made the decision to send his DNA to an ancestory website to try and find his parents, which ultimately unravels a whole world of mystery...
An excellent, well crafted tale with vibrant characters. It was a little confusing at times, however this did not take anything away from the overall story.
This is the second book in the "Wilde" series, and although it can be read as a stand alone, it is beneficial to have read the preceding "Boy From The Woods". Enough loose ends are tied up here to imagine that this could be the conclusion of the series. Perhaps Coben intends to return to the Myron Bolitar series (fingers crossed, anyway!)
This is very much along the usual Harlan Coben lines, being set in middle class America with a cast of comfortably-off characters. It is in some ways refreshing to read a book which is about "ordinary" people - well-drawn, rounded characters who live realistic lives. Even Wilde, with his unorthodox background, lives comfortably and happily for the most part. The plot, revolving around DNA analysis, is complex but logical and easy to follow.
Coben is an accomplished writer who knows how to keep the reader turning the pages, and this addition to his catalogue is no different.
A book that takes you on a page turner of a read because of the writing that draws you into the story. I really enjoyed this book. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
I didn’t realise that there is a previous book featuring the central character, Wilde. However, it works well as a standalone ( although there are so many inter relationships that it was slightly confusing at times). I look forward to finding the first book and learning more of the backstory.
Coben is one of my favourite authors; he can spin a yarn around anything and give it a degree of credibility. This has a slightly improbable premise, but somehow it works and using the DNA theme to find familial links is fascinating. I’m sure in coming years the use of DNA to explore the truly extraordinary will be fascinating. This is a complex plot, but well thought out and as usual, the pace is fast and it’s always difficult to second guess the outcome. I like Wilde and this is a thriller that keeps your attention right from the off. Another Coben winner.
My thanks to the publisher for a review copy via Netgalley.
Amazingly I’ve never read any of this author’s books before. Now I know what I’ve been missing. Fabulous writing, keeps you breathless from the first to the last page
A page turner with a very complex family which did get a bit confusing at times, the second in the Wilde series this book packs just as much punch as the first, getting some much needed answers to some much asked about questions, I will look forward for more in the series
I hadn't read the first in this series and I wish now that I had. The book does work as a stand alone, you are given enough of Wilde's backstory to make sense of it but I think you miss out by not having the full story.
This book is well written, as you'd expect, and I really enjoyed the plot for the most part. Wilde is a very engaging character and you cant help having a soft spot for him. My only disappointment was towards the end when we finally learn the whole truth, or as near to it as hes ever been. If I saw the phrase 'vile man' one more time.... A little too much narrative for my liking. There are still a few gaps in Wilde's story, as he said himself, but there is possibly another book to come? I'd be quite happy to see one but maybe the author will leave it there.
This is the first Harlan Coben book I have read but I was drawn to it based on the TV dramas. It reads like the TV adaptations - fast paced with lots of action. So many twists and turns. Dark and thrilling. I look forward to reading more from the author,
A television reality show presents Wilde with a dilemma concerning his own identity, DNA websites help confuse the issue and soon the plot thickens and Wilde and his adopted family become embroiled in a murder hunt! Fast moving and with the usual action and humour associated with Harlan Coben plus an ‘articulate’ thrown in for good measure! The plot became a little confusing with half brothers and sisters popping up all over the place although I did feel an effort was made to try and simplify things for the reader which was definitely appreciated! I always enjoy reading this author and nothing has changed!
Another blockbuster from Harlan coben. Loved how old characters were bought in from previous stories. Brilliant, unputdownable and an exciting read would be amazing as a tv adaptation
Wilde leads a solitary life in the woods, preferring his own company most of the time, although he checks in occasionally with his adopted family, close friends and god son.
Wilde is known as the boy from the woods, he was found when he was very young, feral, abandoned, all alone.
The opportunity to find and contact his biological parents presents its self when a DNA website that he entered his details on, finds a match!
But then the match disappears and that's when the action really starts!
A fast paced, page turner of a book that I could not put down! Cliff hanger after cliff hanger!
A brilliant array of characters that really brought this story to life, my favourites being Hester Crimstein and of course Wilde!
The suspense had me on the edge of my seat and I was blown away by the reveal, I didn't see that coming in a month of Sunday's!
Imaginative, gripping, clever and unpredictable!
Harlan Coben is the best!!!
I wish I had known this was a follow up to The Boy From The Woods, as I would have read that first, and I think it would've given more context. However, it was complete in its own right, and I did enjoy this quite intriguing thriller.
This is my first sojourn into Harlan Coben novels, having only recently come upon the TV dramas of Stay Close, The Stranger and Safe.
I found the novel quite captivating, but it does stretch the imagination beyond the realms of belief. Maybe that is the American in him, whereas the TV dramas have been set in the UK, giving the stories a little more gravitas and credibility. I suspect this to will be bought by a production company and made into a thriller sequel to the first book in the series. If only Liam Neeson were a little younger, he'd have made an excellent Wilde!
I would recommend this as an easy read, maybe a holiday novel, and I would likely read more Coben novels, if only there weren't so many decades of psychological thrillers to get through! I would actually rate this is 3.5 stars rather than 4, but since that not an option, he's benefited from my optimistic outlook.
