"One Greek Summer" by Kate Frost is a captivating tale set against the backdrop of an idyllic Greek island, Skopelos. Harlow Sands, the protagonist, embarks on a journey that should be the opportunity of a lifetime as she works on a big-budget movie. However, the shadow of uncertainty looms over her, exacerbated by the high expectations of her domineering Hollywood producer mother, Maeve Fennimore-Bell.

The narrative takes an intriguing turn with the introduction of Tyler Reed, the location manager, who shares a complicated history with Harlow spanning over a decade. As their lives become intertwined once again, the layers of their complex past start to unravel, adding depth and tension to the storyline.

Harlow's struggle to break free and carve her own path in the world is at the heart of the story. The author masterfully weaves themes of family dynamics, long-hidden secrets, and the universal need for belonging into the narrative. Skopelos serves as a picturesque backdrop, enhancing the overall atmosphere and providing a perfect setting for the characters' emotional journeys.

Frost skillfully explores the intricacies of fractured families and the challenges of finding one's identity amidst familial expectations. The plot is engaging, keeping readers hooked as they follow Harlow's quest for happiness and self-discovery during this transformative Greek summer.

The characters are well-developed, and their relationships add layers of complexity to the narrative. Harlow's determination and resilience make her a relatable and inspiring protagonist, while Tyler's demons add a touch of realism to the story. The pacing is well-balanced, allowing the emotional and dramatic moments to unfold naturally.

"One Greek Summer" is a delightful read that combines romance, drama, and self-discovery against the stunning backdrop of Skopelos. Kate Frost's storytelling prowess shines through, making this book a four-star gem that will resonate with readers who enjoy tales of love, family, and finding one's place in the world.

This book was so fun! I have read one previous book by Kate Frost, which I didn't realize until after I finished this story. She is quickly becoming a favorite of mine! I can't wait to read more of her stories. I really enjoyed that we saw some behind the scenes for a movie production set in Greece. The setting was so dreamy to read about! And I enjoyed the romance aspect of this story too!

One of the most heartwarming books I have read this year. Warm, life-affirming and so so lovely. I love books that have a mother-daughter story at the heart of them and this one did not disappoint. Perfect for long flights or on the beach!

Kate Frost transports us to the beautiful Greek island of Skopelos in this wonderful, palate cleanser of a story. Her writing is lovely and descriptive and will have you tasting the delicious Greek food, smelling the warm, fragrant sea air, and taking in the beautiful sights around the island. The main character Harlow grapples with complicated relationships with her old friend with benefits, Tyler, and her famous movie producer mother, Maeve, as they all work on a movie production on the island. The story unfolds and we find out more about Harlow’s childhood and past, and how she struggles with the direction of her professional career as pressure from her driven, successful mother continues to cast a shadow. I enjoyed the novel’s exploration of family dynamics and expectations, the discontent and uncertainty with one’s life purpose, the references to the film version of Mamma Mia. and the burgeoning romance between Harlow and the gorgeous, broody olive farmer Adonis. This novel is perfect for a virtual Greek getaway, with a peek into the filming of a movie, family relationships, and romance. I give it 3.5 stars.

If you are looking to escape into a book where better than to travel to Greece, to the sun, sea, and gorgeous scents of the country. Harlow is working there as part of the location team for a major film which is being shot there. Think Mamma Mia and you will get the idea. You soon find out that she is conflicted about her job and has a lot of soul searching to do during her stay there. Full of lively characters and some surprising back stories, there is plenty going on to keep you engrossed.

Adonis turns out to be well named. The son of the owner of the Olive Grove where filming is taking place, his friendship with Harlow is certainly slow burn. Through him, she glimpses a close-knit Greek family which is so different to her relationship with her mother. You absolutely sense how she does not feel as if she fits into her Mum's world. As some secrets from the past emerge which explain some of her friendships and attitudes, you re-evaluate several characters, as she does. This is a light, gentle read which will whet your taste buds for foreign travel and hot sunny days.

In short: Escapist romance

ONE GREEK SUMMER

I picked this up recently feeling the urge to travel but stay on my couch. Why not summer in Greece through the pages of a book.

ONE GREEK SUMMER by Kate Frost is about one woman’s journey abroad to reconcile her tumultuous relationship with her mother and maybe relax, resolve her wanderlust and maybe figure out her life.

One could only hope.

I think this book will appeal to a younger audience. Perhaps a reader looking to explore themselves as much as Greece.

For me, it lacked a little depth and excitement. The love story was a bit odd being both exploratory and timid. And I wanted the character to grow up a bit.

Overall, I think it would make a light and breezy, beach read perfect for enjoying with a glass of something age-appropriate.

Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this advanced copy!

Out now!

ONE GREEK SUMMER…⭐️⭐️⭐️

5 Word Review: Work, responsibility, family, friendship, love.

Warning: this book will make you hungry.

Not going to lie, almost every highlight in this book from me was of food I wanted to eat. My mouth was watering and by half way through I had given up, made a Greek salad, and opened a bottle of red wine.

Harlow has a pretty complicated if privileged life, and I loved that she explored her own privilege in the story. She was humble and caring, and wanted to prove herself as worthy of her accomplishments. Her family life is a bit of a mess, especially when it comes to her mother, and her ex-friend-with-benefits adds a whole other layer of complicated on location. The family dynamic isn't typical, but it was one I lived. Her step-mum and father are gems.

Adonis is... And Adonis. I love that as much as he lived up to his gorgeous name, he was layered and a bit messy too. He has a heart of gold.

It may be early March in the real world, but I was transported directly to a Greek island in summer. I could feel the heat of the sun, the refreshing kiss of the ocean, the sweat beading on my skin. The setting is glorious, every location perfect in so many ways, and backed up by the delicious food and delectable romance. I loved the little peeks at the behind the scenes of the film industry.

I lived all the little Mamma Mia references too, although they made me feel old! Harlow watched it as a teen and err... I was older than that.

This book couldn't be more perfect for brightening your day. I read it on a windy hillside in the borders, sheltering from the rain and cooried up in a blanket, but I felt like I was on the island with Harlow. I can't wait to read this again in the height of summer with a meze and wine.

Harlow is in Skopelos to work as an assistant location manager for her mum’s big movie. She responsible for scouting and helping the crews in the various location on Skopelos Island. Working together with Tyler, her close friend with benefits history make it even harder for her. On the island, she met Adonis and their relationship started to grow despite their rocky start of the friendship.

It is a sweet romance between two persons who are caught in between their desire and their commitment and responsibilities to their loved one. Love the story between Harlow and Adonis though at the beginning of the story it focuses more on the relationship between Harlow and Tyler. Too much that it overshadow the actual story of Harlow and Adonis. This book have relatable character with a lot of pent up emotion, complicated relationship and secrets.

Being on a movie set in a beautiful Greek island is what everyone and every actor would wish for, but that is not the case. With their worlds having been intertwined for decades this new situation may cause more issues then they bargained for. How can the movie continue while the cast are veering off their course.

I enjoyed the read and the scenery (I love the film Mamma Mia and that really helped with picturing the island). That said I felt Adonis was almost in the book as an afterthought, with the romance more being put in to facilitate Harlow seeing more of the island and less to do with any proper chemistry between them.

A nice enough beach read.
