Thank you in advance to NetGalley UK and the publisher for providing me with an ebook arc.
This will however not influence my opinion.

After I already had the pleasure of receiving an ebook arc of the secret bridesmaid when it was first released and ended up loving it, I knew I had to request Katy Birchalls second book.

Freya gets broken up with the day before her wedding and finds herself single after 12 years. After sulking for a little and doing her best job of going out there - her friends from college write her a wedding list to survive the wedding season which is a total of 7 weddings she has to attend over the summer. There is a little challenge she has to complete for each wedding to avoid thinking of her ex fiancé.

As was the case in her first book, I really admire Katy Birchalls skill to write life and friendships unlike any other. They feel so unbelievably real which makes the book so easy to read. I also love her humour and was actually laughing several times throughout the book which doesn't happen often to me while reading.

The tasks were fun and silly and the time jumps from wedding to wedding were fitting and made this a very fun and quick read.

I do have to agree with one reviewer who said that this book is more of a Woman's fiction than a romcom. It definitely is a comedy but the romance aspect is really, really small and isn't exciting and toe curling as it should be when reading a romcom. This book was rather full of friendship and trying new things to find out who you are on yoúr own after coming out of a 12 year relationship.

That said: I really enjoyed the book and will be patiently waiting for her next release.

Thought this was such a fun concept - a nice twist on the whole 'jilted at the altar' trope, which was good as I'm not normally the biggest fan of those. Thought her friends were great; this was a good summer rom-com.

The Wedding Season by Katy Birchall is a must-read for anyone who loves a self-love novel. The book is a heartwarming, cozy read that captures the excitement being single and at the same time the magic of weddings. As someone who has been surrounded by engaged and married couples lately, I found the storyline to be so very relatable. With charming characters and a lesson to be learned by the final page, this book is the perfect escape!

Overall, this is a light-hearted and entertaining book, even though there's break-up and a difficult mother-daughter relationship in it.

The story started a bit slow, with Freya mulling over her heartache, but then it picked up and the wedding challenges were absolutely hilarious. I liked the beer talk, the threesome of Freya, Ruby and Leo, and witty and perky dialogues. It's almost 400 pages but it felt like a quick read.

Thank you NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for an ARC.

This is a gorgeous read from beginning to end. This book has stolen my heart and been completely unputdownable.

This book would be the perfect summer read, it is quite predictable in parts, however it literally made me laugh out loud sometimes so not just your average rom com!

Once again Katy Birchall has written a hilarious story, and she is fast becoming an author to keep an eye out for, for me.

I loved Ruby and Leo's strategy for getting Freya through the busy wedding season of the summer, full of hen nights and weddings, after only just being jilted the day before her own wedding in a broom cupboard. She is devastated of course but also determined not to let it affect her support of her friend's special days.

So she is set a challenge for each wedding to keep her mind off the break up, from the relatively straight forward, being the last one standing, to the potentially tricky, run down a hotel corridor naked, and a whole variety in between.

There is so much wit in this book it's fabulous, and there are some great storylines, including Freya's relationship with her mother which is rather rocky to start with. There is also a very memorable bit that had me laughing out loud in the first chapter, to do with Freya's brother's wedding gift to the "happy" couple.

It's just a pure pleasure to read it, and I was thoroughly entertained with every page that I read.

Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I like this author's writing style. Her characters are engaging, and this book was no different. We plunge right into the chaos of wedding preparations and even a missing peacock! It is at this point that the bride finds out that the wedding is not to be. We follow her on her year of self-discovery and all the things she does to maintain her sanity.
At the very beginning, we are told that this is to be the season of weddings with multiple weddings in the offing. All of which our lead protagonist needs to now attend minus her almost-husband. All the weddings are of close enough people that some friends overlap. In order to bear it, her friends brainstorm and set up one task she has to accomplish at every event, keeping her mind off of her singledom.
All the usual (and sometimes not so usual) shenanigans ensue. I actually wanted to focus more on the individual weddings than the self-pity that descended like a cloud on Freya's head in the intervening time.
I ended up wanting more of the stories and the actual weddings than the other things I just mentioned above. I found the other love story a little rushed. I am, however, now invested in this author. I enjoyed the time I spent with the book and was satisfied enough when I set it aside. The writing is descriptive, without it being overly so. It is entertaining with characters that you can cheer on and like watching the growth arc of.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes this genre and is fond of weddings in general in their stories.
I read this as an ARC, thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.

What a belter of a read. I inhaled this one and just loved, loved, loved it. Imagine being dumped the day before your wedding and then having to to go to seven of your friends hen do’s/weddings over the next few months!!

Poor Freya is dumped the night before her wedding! You really do have to feel sorry for her! Her wedding was the beginning of a summer full of weddings, and just because hers is no longer going ahead, doesn’t mean she doesn’t have to go and attend everyone else’s. You can’t blame her for not feeling the whole wedding vibes, but her friends try to make it easier for her by setting her a challenge for each wedding. I liked Freya’s character and found her journey throughout her heartbreak and acceptance of what happened to be emotional and highly entertaining!

The book moves along at a good pace. I enjoyed attending all the different weddings as Freya’s imaginary plus one and liked meeting all the various characters along the way. There is a romantic element running throughout the storyline and it was interesting to see if Freya was ready for another relationship! I liked Jamie’s character, although found him a little ‘off-ish’ to begin with, but he rapidly grew on me and became the perfect person to attend a wedding or stag/hen weekend with.

The storyline was cute and funny, with lots of love and laughs along the way. It was a super easy read, and I found myself hooked into the book very early on! This makes the perfect summer escape! Would recommend!

The day before Freya's marriage to Matthew, he announces to her in a broom closet that he doesn't want to marry her. She is heartbroken and still supposed to attend 8 weddings this summer, so her friend decide to help her by creating the wedding list where she will have to complete a task at each of the wedding she will attend.
This book was very entertaining and Freya was a very compeling character. Her friends were very enjoyable.

The day before her wedding, while guests are arriving and peacocks are loose in the house (a gift from her brother), Freya is dumped by her fiancé, the man she spent the last twelve years with, – in a broom closet. Heartbroken and with a full wedding season ahead of her (seven weddings to attend to, without counting the hen dos), her best friends, Ruby and Leo, encourage her to set herself a challenge for each wedding. From being the last one standing on the dance floor to getting a pair of cufflinks from a man, from making an impromptu speech to kissing someone at midnight to running naked in the corridor of a hotel (inspired by the Spice Girls), Freya will distract herself, enjoy herself, and stop thinking about the wedding that never was.

I had so much fun reading The Wedding Season. I laughed a lot, but there are also a few serious and thought-provoking moments. Freya is an incredible protagonist. The Wedding Season is her journey as she heals from her heartbreak and she rediscovers herself. Freya is a hilarious, relatable, and authentic character and I enjoyed reading how she developed throughout the novel.

There is some romance, but what I loved most about this novel is the friendship theme. Freya is surrounded by a group of dynamic and entertaining characters that support her throughout the novel. I loved their witty exchanges, their group chats that always made me laugh, and their loyalty, especially with Ruby and Leo.

Last year, I really enjoyed the author’s adult debut novel, The Secret Bridesmaid, and The Wedding Season was even better. It is entertaining, compelling, and addictive and it is one of my favorite books of the summer.

This was a simple, fun, easy and quick read. The perfect type of book for your holiday, beach, pool kind of read. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

3.5/5.

I thought this book had everything romance, comedy and also heartbreak.

Freya has been with Matthew since her 20’s but the day before they get married he tells her he doesn’t want to marry her. She is devastated so her friends Ruby & Leo come up with challenges that she has to do at the wedding’s she is invited to. We see her doing these challenges which some of them were funny. I found the friendship between them all so good and the interaction with them was believable. Will Freya find someone or go back to Matthew only time will tell.

Certainly would recommend this book.

At thirty-two Freya has been dating Matthew for 12 years after they met at uni. Their wedding will kickstart the beginning of the wedding season, with eight weddings that she’ll be attending this year. Putting the final preparations for her wedding she is surprised when Matthew returns from lunch with his parents looking out of sorts. Attempting to find a quiet place to talk in her father’s house he pulls her into a broom cupboard. Declaring that he cannot go through with their wedding tomorrow and that he needs space and time.

Her best friends Ruby and Leo rally around her as she attempts to understand how after 12 years he no longer loves her. Putting on a brave face she prepares to attend the other hen parties and weddings of her friends. Her besties decide that she needs a survival plan in place and set her up with a different task for each wedding to distract her from the day.

Over the course of the events, she attempts to stop herself from contacting Matthew. Gets very frustrated by Jamie, who she gives a lift to one of the weddings in Devon. Although they work in similar industries they appear to be polar opposites. Slowly she crosses off tasks, seeing love from a different vantage point, discovering new friendships and learning that sometimes you have to let go in order to find true happiness and love, no matter how painful it might be.

A great easy, light read. The day before her planned wedding Freya is jilted by her fiance Matthew. Worrying how she'd get through all the forth coming weddings her best friends hatched up a plan.
Freya had to tackle of the said tasks at the weddings she would attend over the coming months. Would Freya finally be able to get answers from Matthew and start her life a fresh)?
A story of love, friendship, families and survival.
