Harris has produced an enjoyable story with all the elements that make for a successful one. If I could choose again, I’d prefer a written copy rather than an audio as I found the narrator’s voice hesitant at times. On the whole though, I’m pleased I was given the opportunity to review this for the publisher and NetGalley - a brilliant story of mystery, love and war worth your time.
This book was brilliant I really loved it. I listened to the audiobook and loved the narrator voice and created a brilliant sense of atmosphere. I soon became engrossed in the story. I loved how the author created the characters leading me to connect well with them especially the main character and the German general. The story-line was rather brilliant its a real page turner novel. In fact I struggled to put it down and had to stay up late to finish reading it. This book brought out so much emotions within me. I was rooting for the German general as you could see and feel his transformation coming. But will he change his alliances well you will have to read the book, I'm not giving anything away. Let's just say the ending had me on the edge of my seat. I just love books with brilliant twists and turns and this book did not disappoint. I will definitely be reading more from this author.
So much praise goes out to the author and publishers for producing such an emotional roller coaster of a novel. That I'm positive will have you on the edge of your seat.

After hearing lots about Harris' books, I was looking forward to this one, but I didn't really feel like it added a great deal to an already heavily saturated WW2 novel market.
It was an interesting premise, executed fairly well but I didn't feel connected with the characters or believe that the story was all that memorable.
The Light We Left Behind by Tessa Harris, set in 1944 England, and the flashbacks to 1940 Germany.
Trent Park was a place for extracting information from captured German generals and staff officers used by British intelligence.
Maddie Gresham, as Dr. Baskin's educated in psychology, was invited to join Trent Park and help with the investigation. She finds his teacher's death suspicious, unusual suicide in the building, something or someone is not right here but she did not have allowed asking questions.
Six years ago Maddie was forced to depart from her first love, Max. Max had to run from Germany, with his family for saving their life. And now he faced Maddie after a few years under very unusual circumstances. Could she was changed so much?!
This is not only a war, and loss story but also is some mystery and spy. Enjoyable and Good read.
Thanks to HarperCollins UK Audio via NetGalley for the ARC, I have given my honest review.
First of all, thank you #netgalley and #harpercollinsuk for sending me this audiobook in exchange for an honest review!
This was a very entertaining little book to listen to. Set in Britain in 1944, it explores the true story of the famous Trent Park. This historic mansion was used by the British intelligence as a place to extract information from captured German generals and staff officers. They were treated hospitably and lulled into a false sense of security, but the rooms were equipped with hidden microphones that allowed the British to eavesdrop on the officers’ conversations.
Maddie Gresham is a psychologist called to Trent Park to take the place of Professor Baskin, her mentor, who was found dead in his bed. The job is to assess the prisoners by listening to their conversations. But Maddie is also desperate to find out what happened to her first love, Max Weitzler, who she left behind in Nazi Germany at the start of the war. Unbeknownst to her, he was hired as a spy in Trent Park!
What follows is a gripping spy story impeccably written, whose sole purpose is to obtain intelligence about the existence and location of the German rocket development at Peenemünde Army Research Center. But soon Maddie begins to suspect that Prof Baskin did not die of natural causes.
I felt a lot of the book was a little too predictable and could have done with a little more suspense. But the narrator did a marvellous job with the different accents, from Scottish to American and Cockney, and the love story was a nice additional touch.
This is an interesting read which features a love story and a mystery and espionage
It features the code breakers and is a different take on other books I have Read on the period and was interesting and I thought it was an easy Read
Many thanks to Netgalley for a digital copy of this title for an honest review
Set in 1944 England this book is based on historical fact, intrigue and espionage. German POW at officer level are kept in secured premises, the plan is to lure them into a false sense of security to obtain war secrets from them. A couple of side stories intertwine around the main story, the love affair of an english woman and a Jewish refugee and his story of how he and his family were spilt up by war and found their way across Europe. Bit predictable however a good read and beautifully read. Thank you #NetGalley for the audiobook to review.
