An accessible guide to indoor gardening cover pretty much everything a beginner needs to know. Starting with how to buy healthy indoor plants, this books takes you through everything you need to care for them, including watering, potting on, lighting, propagating and more.
Clear, modern photographs accompany the text throughout this book and included are also guides on how to grow herbs and edible microgreens.
I can definitely recommend this book to beginner indoor gardeners wanting to enjoy the current trend of house plants.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

cannot praise this book enough - from growing kitchen herbs to nurturing orchids and patiently caring for bonsai, it has it all. Indoor Green walks all wanna green-thumbs through the process of selecting plants to ensure they thrive - from potting, feeding, ensuring they have the right amount on light and temperature.
I was looking for the right information about how to take care of indoors plants and this book was more than I was looking for.
It has all the information needed, from choosing the right plants, pots, soil, etc. then even where to place them. It’s definitely a book to have at home If one likes to have plants indoors.
Creating your own indoor green, using this book as a guide, is not as daunting as it first may seem, even for beginners. It is an easy to follow book with full instructions and tips for various plants. I feel this would be the book to guide people into becoming more confident in growing indoor plants, whatever their space is. It is so well laid-out and with demonstrations to show off your plants in the best possible way and how to get creative with them, in their pots. Whether you consider yourself green-fingered or not, Joe Swift in this book shows that people can learn something new and makes it easy and inspiring to give it a go, with practical advice and solutions for when there is a problem.
It feels like Joe Swift is almost holding your hand and gently easing you in and guiding you through, so it is far from daunting and instead something for a new project/hobby that can become enjoyable very quickly as well as making your home look lovely and being good for your health. It doesn’t need to be expensive either as he demonstrates within the book how to get more plants from one for your buck/money.
This book, even though, aimed at beginners, could also be useful for those who have already started to create a green indoor space because it is also packed full of ideas and there’s always something new that can be learnt.
This is an exciting and wonderful book that I recommend as it really does cover everything you need to know in an easy to follow, easy to understand way.
This is a very well written and informative book. I hope that now I've read it, my house will no longer be the place plants go to die
For someone who has never been good with plants (especially indoors) this book is a delight! It introduces you to the different kinds of plants and gives great instructions how to care for them.
It's easy to understand and fun to read.
A great book for those amongst us with green fingers, and also those like me, who are not so blessed. Filled with beautiful colour pictures and lots of useful information and handy tips, this is an all round good addition to anyone’s bookcase.
My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review.
This book was enjoyable to read. I had a few houseplants before Covid & quarantining, but boy, my collection of plants has definitely grown. There are some great suggestions and tips. I love the cool photos and arrangements throughout the book. They have encouraged me to try to arrange my plants in groups. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in learning to better care for plants.
*Note: I had difficulty reading one of the text fonts.
Thank you, NetGalley and Collins, for providing me with a digital ARC for an honest review.
Oh, this book is a must for any green-fingered person! It's full of fantastic information and laid out in a really easy-to-use way. The photographs are beautiful and I love that you get a full-page photo of each plant next to the information about it. I think it's a must-have on bookshelves for anyone who enjoys having plants in their home.
A book that makes it easy to get what you are supposed to do. You don’t need green fingers to follow the tips and the info is laid out in a really straight forward manner. This suits the avid grower wanting to get a bit more from their plant as well as the beginner. A good book to have on the shelf and dip in and out of.
Great ideas for small spaces and indoor gardening
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me access an advance copy of this book in exchange for my feedback.
This book was a real pleasure to read, and definitely encourages and interest in houseplants, so much so that I have gone out and purchased some today to add to my small collection. I have also purchased the book from Amazon, as although I enjoy ebooks, I find that illustrated text books such as this one are better in hard copy.
My plants are super grateful I got a chance to read it.
I am, too, it was breaking my heart not knowing why they are sometimes unhappy :(
thank you!
Indoor Green is one of a set of accessible gardening guides by Joe Swift covering a range of gardening topics. Due out 3rd March 2022 from Harper Collins on their Collins Reference imprint, it's 224 pages and will be available in ebook format.
This is a well written and no-nonsense guide to houseplants; decorating with houseplants, culture, selection and propagation of same. The author presents the info with expertise - it's clear he knows what he's talking about, but does so without being preachy or pedantic. He's done a good job of choosing the plants which are as attractive as possible and most of which have not only aesthetic appeal but other uses. Most plants are referred to by both common and botanical (Latin) name for clarity and identification.
The book is full of full color photographs for inspiration and clarity. The introduction covers the basics: feeding, watering, selection, and other necessary criteria for plant success. They're simple and logically presented. As the author says "Most indoor plants really do want to grow, they just need a helping hand". The following chapters provide reference and info for most plant families including a surprisingly good overview (but not a complete course, obvs) over bonsai, citrus, and kokodama (plants growing in "moss balls"), and even *clutching pearls* faux botanicals (fakes).
One of the high points for me with this volume was the useful and specific extra information included on choosing containers for particular purposes, repotting (where, when, how), pest control, troubleshooting, and the small tutorials sprinkled throughout. Spelling and terminology are British English, but won't present any problems in context with readers from North America.
Four and a half stars. This would be a good choice for public and school libraries, gardening groups, community/allotment gardens, suburban gardeners, homeowners, etc.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
This is the right book if you want to improve the way you manage your indoor plants or you are just beginning.
Informative, easy to follow.
Loved it, highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
