A very engaging and addictive story. Lucy Foley always comes through with a page turner. I loved the atmosphere of the story, I did not expect the twists at all and I felt so invested in the characters I would happily meet them again in a sequel or prequel.
I have enjoyed the other books Lucy has written however I struggled to engage with this one. I am a big mood reader so I suspect that it was right book wrong time. I took the decision to put it to one side so I could revisit it without spoiling the plot.
This is my first time reading Lucy Foley. I had really high hopes for the book as I have heard a lot about it on social media. But the plot is slow that eventually I started losing interest. Also, the plot has so many POV's that while listening I was totally confused. But, I think that may be I had the book in an audio form that is why it looked confused. May be I should have read it.
I could only give 3 stars to the book. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me an opportunity to read and review the book.
I finished this book 5 weeks ago and I am still thinking about it. As someone who can forget the plot to a book they just finished, that says a lot!
The Paris Apartment follows Jess, who is in need of a fresh start, as she goes to visit her enigmatic half-brother Ben in Paris. Once she gets there Ben is nowhere to be found. Her journey to find Ben LEDs her down a very interesting and salacious path involving Ben's neighbors.
This is the book people in my life will be sick of me talking about! I loved this book. It was such an easy read and so compelling. I couldn't put it down but also didn't want to finish it!
Fabulous. Finally got around to listening to this and I loved it. Thank you! I’m glad I listened to it rather than read it as it just made the book so much more thrilling.
Have loved both of Lucy Foley’s previous books but The Paris Apartment did not work for me, and I found myself losing interest. I may try to revisit the book in future as Foley is an author I really enjoy. The narration on this audio was wonderful. Some actors worked better than others but overall a really stellar experience with some great performances. However I still unfortunately found myself reluctant to pick the audio back up and ultimately abandoned it. I am still very grateful for the advanced listening copy and look forward to what Lucy Foley does next!
This novel has it all; multiple character viewpoints with a smart and likeable character and wonderful unpredictable tension running through it. Overall the novel is full of thrills, twists, surprises and a satisfying ending.
I am a big fan of LucyFoleysoIcouldn'twait to get my hands on this one but unfortunately, it fell a little short compared to her previous books. I thought it dragged a little in parts and most of the action happened in thelast100 pages. It was a good read but probably my least favourite of hers.
Thank you for the ARC. I did initially enjoy this, but there was unfortunately too many characters and plot lines so again, unfortunately it wasn’t for me.
Jess arrives in Paris, hoping to stay at her brother’s apartment. But he’s not there.
This thriller is set in an eerie city apartment building. It’s a quiet place, away from the bustle of the main streets, and no one except the neighbours ever seems to be around:
The watchful concierge
The lover
The prying journalist
The naïve student
The Paris Apartment is like watching a tense film (without the music!) where I didn’t actually realise there were multiple narrators until now – I thought the main narrator was just quite talented! It was particularly nerve-wracking to listen to in bed.
I did like that is was set in Paris.
I find that it was flowing all the time. The Author really really highlighted cultural differences and how easy miscommunication can occur quite easily.
This book had Agatha Christie vibes, portraying a dark side of Paris unknown to me (thankfully!) A broody, chilling, atmospheric story. I really enjoyed it!
Thoroughly captivating story. I was hooked from the start. Jess visits her step-brother's apartment in Paris, only to find things are not as they should be. Plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. There were a few slightly unbelievable aspects to the storyline but, once you accepted these, it was a fun and gripping read. The various narrators really helped to keep you listening. Looking forward to reading some more by this author. Thank you to the author, the publisher and Net Galley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I unfortunately could not review this title as the audiobook was too poor quality to listen to via the Netgalley Shelf app. I will update my review in the future, should I gain alternative access to this title and listen to it.
Received audiobook from Netgalley in exchange for review.
I really enjoyed this. It was a twisty tale of misadventure set in Paris. The characters were well written and interesting and I enjoyed the storyline. I liked the narrator, she had a few accents to contend with!
I would definitely recommend.
Fantastic premise. This had me hooked from the first chapter. I thoroughly enjoyed unravelling the Web of deciet that surrounded the entire apartment building.
This book was amazing. I absolutely loved every second of it. It will definitely take you on a roller coaster ride. That you won't be able to put down. I listened to the audiobook. Which was amazing and had a full cast. Many of the narrators had a wonderful French accent.
There was so much atmosphere and tension in this amazing fast paced book..
The story was well written and it flowed brilliantly. It make for a fantastic page turning novel.
There was also a great air of mystery to the story. I just loved trying to work out all the twist and turns in this book. I certainly didn't see them coming. I certainly couldn't work out the ending either. And wow what an ending that was. I'm certainly not going to give anything away but it felt complete.
I really recommend this book to thriller readers who love them dark twisty books that keep you on the edge of your seat.
I will definitely be looking out for more titles from this brilliant author.
Only the highest of praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating this stunning story that had me hooked from the very start.
The above review has just been placed on goodreads, waterstones, Google books, Barnes&noble, kobo, amazon UK where found and my blog https://ladyreading365.wixsite.com/website/post/the-paris-apartment-by-lucy-foley-harpercollins-5-stars either under my name or ladyreading365
Wonderful feeling floods through this on every page. The introduction had me and from there it picked up pace.
I really enjoyed listening to this audio book. I actually quite liked the changing of narrators between characters. I felt that the different narrators made it easier to follow who was telling the story at any time and made me react differently emotionally to the characters than if it had just been one narrator.
I felt compelled to walk more often and further whilst listening to this book as I really wanted to see how the story evolved.
I loved all of the different interweaving of the different characters stories and view-points and found this to be very subtly and cleverly done. The twist in the story gave me a gasp moment and the final resolution of the story felt fitting to me and left me satisfied.
I have read the Hunting Party and enjoyed it, but I think that I enjoyed listening to this story more than reading The Hunting Party.
I will definitely recommend this book to others, in all formats, book and audio.
This was another strong novel by Lucy Foley and it was expertly plotted, but the mystery here and the twists were less compelling than her last two books. The characters were well developed but I wasn’t fascinated by their voices like I was with the characters in The Hunting Party and The Guest List. I still recommend this one, but I’d rank it 3rd of her most recent 3 books.
