Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market by Nicola May
I received an advance review copy for free thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
39-year-old Glanna Pascoe - also known as 'the Rainbow Painter' - runs the Hartmouth Gallery in Ferry Lane Market in Cornwall. She is just getting her head and broken heart around being single, childless, and sober when Cupid flies in, shooting arrows all over the place.
Meeting the mysterious and fascinating Isaac Benson, famous local artist, and recluse, allows Glanna's disillusioned heart and attitude to soften, and she begins to learn more about herself than she ever thought possible. Confused by her growing feelings for Isaac, Glanna throws herself into organising a life-drawing class at her gallery, using both male and female nudes - and setting local tongues wagging.
This books gets off to a slow start as we are introduced to the new characters but it quickly becomes an enjoyable read. Having worked my way through this series, Ferry Lane Market really feels like being welcomed by old friends. Whilst intertwined, each of these books could very easily be read as a stand-alone. A perfect summer read sent in a gorgeous coastal location. Sadly, I am led to believe that this is the last book in the series but I really hope that more are added in the future.
Rating: 4/5
What a truly stunning read this book is and Nicola never fails to disappoint. Heart warming and beautifully written.
I don’t know it Ferry Market Lane is chick-lit, rom-com or women’s fiction and I don’t care as categories are not easy to apply to this series.
You can approach this book as pure escapism or you can read them as the portraits of different women. These women are not perfect and they know what life is and how it can hurt you or you can make the wrong choices.
Glanna was a wild child, she had fun and was an addicted. She has talent but did a lot to waste it. She doesn’t want to become a mother or a wife, she only wants to be herself.
This is the most complex and my favorite character in this series. I loved them all but Glanna is special and there’s not a lof of characters like her in the world of women’s fiction.
I loved her character and loved her changes, her struggles, and her character arc in the path to happiness.
Ferry Lane Market is as lovely as usual and I was glad to catch up with the characters from the previous books and spend time with them.
Nicola May delivered another poignant, life affirming, heart-warming story that made me smile and moved me to tears, I can’t wait to read the next.
Many thanks to Nicola May, Hodder & Stoughton, Rachel's Random Resources, and Netgalley for this ARC. All opinions are mine
Ferry Lane Market is a memorable setting, and the author brings it to life with its relatable characters and detailed description. Glanna's journey of self-realisation is believably poignant. Her battle with addiction and her lack of self despite her material wealth resonates. Old friends from the market reappear, sharing their life events, and there are plenty of humorous interludes.
I enjoyed getting to know the Ferry Lane Market community, who are standout characters. This book is most notable for its lovely friendships and the element of forgiveness it portrays. A perfect summer read set in a picturesque coastal location, immersive and uplifting.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.
Another outstanding book from one of my most favourite authors, Nicola May, but sadly, apparently the last in the Ferry Lane Market series. Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market was brilliant from beginning to end. It was happy, sad, funny and thought-provoking and definitely something I would recommend to anyone who wants to switch off for a few hours and join someone else’s life.
Glanna’s life has had ups and lots of downs until she moved to Hartmouth, but now she’s settling into her new life, making new friends and beginning to love life again. With her gorgeous whippet, Banksy, Glanna is immersing herself into Ferry Lane Market and gradually returning to becoming a local girl once again. She befriends local artist Isaac Benson and they help guide each other through things that have happened to them in the past, both discovering who they are now and how to move forward with their lives.
Nicola brings in characters that have been at the forefront of her other Ferry Lane Market books and we see how their lives are moving forwards too. However, Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market is equally enjoyable as a stand-alone novel as well as alongside the previous two visits to Hartmouth.
I love Nicola’s writing and as an amazingly talented author I hope she continues to introduce us to new series and new characters as time goes on. Please never stop writing, Nicola. I smile every time I know there’s a new book coming out!
Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of Rainbows End in Ferry Lane Market by Nicola May.
In book 3 of the series ,we meet Glanna a gallery owner in Ferry Lane Market.
She has lots of issues from the past that remain unresolved but with the help of Myles , Jen and Isaac.
Lovely to be back in Ferry Lane Market. They are warm , cosy and easy to read books.
Will Glanna find what she is looking for?
You can't have rainbows without rain 🌈🌧️
This book is the third book in the Ferry Lane Market book series. It can be read as a standalone novel but the first two books are lovely and I highly recommend that you read them first.
This book features Glanna, a new character, although the characters from the previous books do star in this book. It is nice to get updates about them.
This is an easy, heartwarming and enjoyable read. It would appear that this might be the last book in the series, but I really hope that there are more books in the series.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.
Great to be back with the residents and vendors of Ferry Lane Market.
As always the story was interesting, featured believable and fully-formed characters and a storyline that held me attention from start to finish.
I also love the fact that characters from previous books pop up and feature in this one, so we get an update on how they and their relationships are doing.
A really enjoyable story, perfect for any time of year but definitely a great summer read. This series is one of my favourites at the moment & I’m hoping there’ll be another instalment.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all three books set around the lovely village of Hartmouth in Cornwall.
You feel like you are there in each book with the characters in Ferry Lane Market.
The book main characters are Glanna, Isaac, and Oliver. Each character had their own issues, with their pasts that are the cause of them. Along with their relations, that appeared in previous books and new challenges, it’s a great read.
Highly recommend this series.
I think that this is my favourite instalment, to date, of this wonderful series. There was something about Glanna’s difficult relationship with her mother that really resonated with me. Maybe difficult is a strong term, but it certainly wasn’t the stuff that Mary Poppins would dream about.
The latest addition to Ferry Lane Market is the Hartmouth Gallery, Glanna’s art gallery which features a variety of artist’s work as well as some of her own rainbow inspired pieces. She’s eager to build business and after being let down by a ceramic artist, she is desperate to find an alternative. A random meeting with local celebrity artist Isaac Benson leads to an interesting sequence of events.
There was a lot packed into this wonderful story, from the hilarity of the life drawing classes to Isaac’s devastating need for privacy, there’s a whole host of emotions to experience. Of course, there are also a number of chances to catch up with characters from the previous books. There’s enough explanation to make sure that you can keep up to speed, if you’ve not read them.
There is romance to be found but, for the avoidance of spoilers, I won’t say anything more on that subject! The beauty of this story is definitely in the details of Glanna’s friendships and evolving relationships with her parents. I absolutely felt like a fly on the wall, watching and listening to her story develop. She’s a strong character yet, like many of us, she has plenty of self-doubt to play devil’s advocate with her thought processes.
I highly recommend this book and the others in the series, they are all rather special.
In this instalment we follow Glanna, who is the owner of the art gallery on the Market and an artist herself, specialising in paintings featuring rainbows. She's the daughter of a rich gentry mum and her handyman lover who have had an on-off thing all these years, heading for 40, single and an ex-addict. She's missing Oliver, the guy she was with during and after her recovery, but messed around when she realised he wanted children and she didn't, but then encounters a mysterious artist no one can get in touch with but who does good from a distance. Completed in her life by her whippet, does Glanna need more? Could her relationship with her demanding mum be mended?
The problem I had with this one was that I couldn't engage with Glanna like I could with Star and Kara - she seems so entitled and the details of her glam lifestyle pre-recovery left me cold. There's a weird flirtation with another woman that doesn't go anywhere and I didn't feel emotionally invested in it. I did like the concentration on different kinds of relationships - the love of friends and the power of sibling love, and the repeated message that you don't have to have a two parents, 2.4 children, together all the time relationship. We have another mixed-heritage relationship that isn't the main thing about the relationship, and I also liked Glanna's casually gay therapist (as in, a point isn't made of it). There isn't much really about the other characters from the previous books, but one character moves to a bay in Devon where the author has set other books, which is a nice touch.

Another great story in this series, I really enjoyed it and love the way the characters from the previous books are still interactive, relax and enjoy these lovely books, the characters are really we written and very likable.
Ah , what a gorgeous story with such sweet, soulful moments courtesy some great yester year poets and great artists mentioned in this story.
Another cracking story from Nicola for sure.
This is the 3rd instalment in the Ferry Lane series and whilst it was OK to read as a standalone I would have liked to have read the others first. I've heard good things about the series as a whole and I think my opinion of this book would have been more positive had I read them in order. It was still an enjoyable read and I liked the characters very much.
A delightful book, Glanna is such an honnest character that you can't help but root for her and her gallery. The descriptions of Cornwall are amazing and the storyline draws you in, keeping you smiling and crying with the characters as you go. Definitely one to read on the beach this summer!
This is the third book in The Ferry Lane Market series set in Cornwall. Whilst it could be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading the series in order.
In this book we meet Glanna, a painter if rainbows and art gallery owner who has a troubled past. The book includes new characters and others from the previous two books. In my opinion this book wasn't as light hearted as the previous two but nevertheless I still enjoyed it.
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for this advance read.
🎨Art & romance meet a beautiful natural Cornish setting🌅
With a good ensemble of characters and a good plot, this story of a gal who reforms and gets control of her life had a range of great elements, including some great descriptions of the Cornish coast and wildlife.
Glanna, the female lead, finds her artistic self but finds her new small-town life is lacking because she can't forget the man she loves but left behind in London. Her life in Ferry Market brings new friends, some drama and a successful business. I liked the choices she ends up making and the way her relationship with her parents, especially her mother, evolves.
Thanks to Hodder & Stoughton and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Such a simply fabulous book, it started off quite slow, setting up who the new characters to the series were -
- but as we established that, it became a simply fantastic read, with all manner of great storylines to follow.
We get to catch up with old friends, and see new sides of familiar characters, and perhaps in the case of a couple, a bit more than we wanted to know or see of them (and what they get up to in their spare time!), and I loved every second of it.
From Glanna's love of art, her continued recovery from addiction, trying to work out what she really wants from life, it was all so relatable and that she and the other characters felt so real.
In fact once again Nicola May's ability to write a wonderful character are at the forefront, and with this familiar setting to those that have been reading the series, this is just clearly another winner from this exceptionally talented author.
Gutted that this third books appears to be the end of the trilogy, I really hope it's turned into a longer series, as I feel there are so many more characters stories to be explored down at Ferry Lane Market.
Thank you to Hodder and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
I always love a visit to Ferry Lane Market and this didn't disappoint. This is the third in a series but can be read as a standalone. It was lovely getting to know Glanna's story or as she is known as the rainbow painter. I very much hope I can visit Ferry Market Lane in the future.
Absolutely adored this book! Sad that it's the last one in the trilogy! Could happily read much much more about this fabulous community! A brilliant addition to the series.
