This book starts with heartbreak but blossoms throughout the book.
I love the ever-growing friendship between Alex and Ivy.
I've always wanted to own a shop and Alex and Ivy's shop sounds perfect. What better mix than books and handmade clothes. Reading and sewing are two of my favourite hobbies.
Really enjoyed this book. I've read books by this author before and I had a feeling I'd like this one too, I like Sarah's style of writing.
Another trip to Mermaid point, this time featuring Ivy and Alex. This is book 3 but I personally don't think you need to have read the others to read this one although you will certainly want to
Ivy's mum has just died and she has found out that things are more complicated with the house than she thought and she finds out that her estranged dad owns half of it and wants to sell it immediately so her dreams of having enough money to buy the local bookshop looks impossible
Alex wrote a book about his divorce and ex which became a best seller but has now got writer's block and wants to go back to live in Mermaid point where there is a bookshop for sale to start again
Can they find a way that they both get what they want ?
Won't say any more so it doesn't spoil the story
Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.
The third book in the mermaids point series and it didn’t disappoint.
Ivy Fisher is ready to start her own life after losing her mom. The local bookshop is up for sale and Ivy has her heart set on buying it until Alex brother of the local GP Tom buys it from under her nose. After started to spend time with Alex she starts to see a different side of him and after finding out that Ivy wanted to buy the bookshop they come to an agreement for her to sell her goods out of the store as well as his books. There relationship blossoms into something more but is Alex all as it seems.
The third in the Mermaid Point series didn’t disappoint. This time centring around Ivy and Alex as they both try to rebuild their lives after significant personal changes in circumstances. There was poignAnt moments, there were highs but also romance. What more could you ask for?
Don't you just love discovering new authors, I only come across Sarah Bennett from the first book of this series, so I am now working my way through her back catalogue.
Love blooms at Mermaid Point is the third book In this series, don't worry If you haven't read the others as this can easily be read as a standalone but I highly recommend you start from the beginning.
At the start you have a character list, I love it when a book has this, you know who's who and a little refresher from the previous titles.
Here we have Ivy and Alex's tale, Ivy coming to terms with the passing of her mother and Alex who is dealing with his divorce.
This is not all romance and flowers, there are plenty of ups and downs and written so beautifully from Sarah.
This book and the whole series is filled with friendships, love, a great little community and a wonderful setting, I truly wish Mermaids Point was real.
Another wonderful heartwarming book about the people of Mermaids Point. This one is centred on Ivy and Alex as they both restart their lives.
After years of taking care of her dying Mum, Ivy must now face life without her and a different life where she is now the centre. Alex is moving on from a bad marriage and is hiding the fact he wrote a novel based on his break up with his wife.
This book is just a great read and would be perfect for a trip or when you just want to feel good when you finished it. While it is part of a series you could read it by itself , but I encourage you to read them all in order so you get the most out of these wonderful characters.
Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this beautiful book.
Love Blooms at Mermaids Point is the third book in the Mermaids Point series. I actually haven't read the two previous books, but that was okay because this almost felt like a standalone anyway. It made me want to read the two other books too, so I can visit this cozy little village once again.
Always when a book revolves around books (bookshop, libraries etc.) I can't stop picking them up. This one was a really good read that I would recommend to others who like to read about a cute love stories with bookish elements. Great characters, plot and well written. I gave this book 4 stars * * * *
Another fantastic trip to Mermaids Point.
An emotional time for Ivy, following the passing of her mum, it was lovely to see the inhabitants rally round to look after her. The fledgling relationship between Ivy and Alex was so addictive to follow! It’s was fabulous to see them connect and be there for each other.
Beautiful setting, adorable characters and a few twists along the way kept me hugely entertained.
Mermaids Point is a great series of books, characters you can really relate to. With every new book i feel even more a part of the Mermaids point family. The story keeps you interested right to the end its so well written that it curls round you like a comfy blanket. I totally recommend the whole series. Thank you so much netgalley for the advance copy.
I've read the first in the series, and this is book 3. Enjoyed returning to small town Mermaids Point and the fun batch of characters. This one is centered around Ivy, who just lost her mother, and Alex, who has moved to the small town because of his brother moving there. Both Ivy and Alex want to buy the old bookstore, as the owner wants to retire. Sparks fly, although it takes time to learn to trust each other. A nice feel good story and although a bit slow in the beginning, once I kept going I was pleased with the results. Would recommend.
This is the first book I've read by Sarah Bennett. She has a delightful writing style and her characters are well developed that draws the reader to them. This is book #3 of a series, and although I didn't read the first two, the back-story was detailed enough that I feel this could easily be read as a standalone.
The story takes place in the small village of Mermaids Point where everyone knows each other. and is willing to help where needed. In this case, Ivy is preparing to leave for the funeral of her mother, when her friend Alex shows up at her door. He want to ensure she's okay and has come to escort her to the service. Alex, who is described as quite handsome, is suffering the effects of his failed marriage. He's also writing a best-seller and considering buying a run-down bookstore.. This is a heartfelt story of how the foundation of a special friendship can change.
Despite the seriousness of the challenges both Alex and Ivy are facing, it is obvious there are sparks between them, and the story itself isn't heavy or sad. It's a feel-good story that kept me turning the pages to the very end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the complimentary copy of this book. All comments and opinions are my ow..
It was great to be back at Mermaids Point. I love this little community and I love Alex and Ivy. These two are great characters, and I was really excited to learn their story and see their happy ever after.
Alex was great the way he stepped up for Ivy and supported her through her mums death. I loved how he was prepared to take things at her pace and try to be what she needed. These two fell hard for each other and I think they were the last people to realise it. The whole community pulled together to ensure they had the support they needed. I can’t wait to see who’s next.
I first discovered Sarah Bennett's books last year, and I've been highly enjoying my time with her stories. I hadn't actually started reading the Mermaids Point series yet, but I couldn't resist the temptation to read Love Blooms At Mermaids Point anyway. Especially since past experiences have taught me that each book of the different trilogies focuses on a different character and it's quite easy to read them as stand-alones... The fact that Love Blooms At Mermaids Point also has a very helpful list of the different characters in play with a little bio for each one makes it even easier. A little warning though: reading one of the books will make you want to read the other two ASAP!
This trilogy is set in a small village called Mermaids Point, and it definitely has that small town community vibe where everybody knows each other and they all step in to help when someone needs it. It makes for a great backdrop, and the village itself sounds lovely. The added bookish element in the form of the bookshop AND a (secret) writer as one of the main characters is of course a huge bonus as I love a bookish element in my stories... And who doesn't love a bookshop cat?! I liked how big of a role Lucifer the cat played in the story and his appearance always brought a smile to my face.
The story itself is basically a 'friends-to-lovers' trope, and I could really appreciate how it was developed here. Instead of the angst and one of them not realizing the other was in love with them, we have two friends who slowly evolve into something more, and I much prefer the trope to develop this way... The fact that Ivy and Alex have great chemistry together and are likeable makes it easy to root for them. Both characters have their background and issues that make them hesitant to start something new... It was interesting to see their relationship develop over time.
Love Blooms At Mermaids Point isn't all sweet, because there are some heavy moments as well. In fact, the story starts with a funeral, and there are other elements including cheating and grief along the way to balance the more joyful moments. The ending of the story was a bit abrupt, but as a whole I ended up having a great time with this third and final book of the Mermaids Point series.
Love Blooms at Mermaid's Point by Sarah Bennett is the third installment of her popular Mermaid’s Point Series. This is a series that is best read in order, but Love Blooms at Mermaid’s Point can be read as a stand-alone. I was thrilled to be back at Mermaid’s Point and completely enjoyed Ivy and Alex’s story.
Ivy’s mother just passed away after a long and debilitating illness. After years of caring for her mother, Ivy is now able to start her life on her own terms.
Her father is making trouble and she has to sell her mother's house and find a place to live on her own. Plus, her plans to buy the town’s bookstore hit a snag. Alex Nelson, bestselling author, and brother to the town’s doctor is planning to purchase the store.
Alex is at a crossroads in his life. Tired of the financial world of London, he decides to purchase a bookstore in Mermaid’s Point and continue writing. He has serious writer's block, as his previous book makes it to the bestsellers lists. When he learns that Ivy also wanted to purchase the bookstore, they make an agreement for her to sell her goods out of the store as well as his books. Working side by side to get the old dilapidated store ready, and stocking the shelves, Ivy and Alex start to have feelings for each other. But, will secrets cause distrust between the couple?
I sure enjoyed being back in Mermaids’ point and really enjoyed Ivy and Alex’s story. Working together to get the shop up and running allows them each to discover and appreciate each other. One of the small issues I had with the previous book in the series is the large number of characters. In this book, the author provided a helpful character list at the beginning of the book, which I found very useful and allowed me to remember each of the characters before I started reading. And I used it as a reference when I encountered a character that I forgot from the previous books.
I found that this book was much more of a stand-alone than her previous books as it concentrated almost exclusively on Alex’s and Ivy’s story, with just a few visits from the previous characters. The town of Mermaid Point is as much part of the story as the human characters, the idyllic life is masterly described and would make any reader wish they lived there.
I highly recommend Love Blooms at Mermaids Point to anyone who loves an optimistic and positive love story. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A big fan of the mermaid point series,
and this book tells us Ivy Fisher and Alex Nelson story, who become friends after Alex moves back to the point and buying Mr Cavendish Bookshop, Ivy has just lost her mother and her father owns 50% of the cottage and they did not get divorced so she will find herself homeless as he wants it sold, and Alex steps in needing help to get the bookshop back into shape with Ivy's help.
This pair are made for each other but it's not all plain sailing along the way as you read the book will they both find happiness with each other, I was glued to reading and could not put it down, as I wiped away a few tears in some chapters, this is by far to me the best in this series to me but I say that every time I read this author's work, as she has a way of been involved in all the characters that will touch your heart till the very end. I loved it.
Oh felt the love blooming really!! I liked this a lot!
Ivy and Alex - the MCs - both healing due to significant changes in their lives. Both the characters were beautifully written. All the other characters - few MCs from previous books and others significant characters featuring through the series - were also portrayed well (incl. the much hated Kevin).
I had not read any of the previous books in this series but had no trouble understanding this book. The list of characters given upfront helped too... Definitely reading the previous books (they are available in KU!!!)
Am craving for an epilogue but of course the next books in the series would give us all we crave for!! Can't wait!
A great read about a close knit communit. Whilst we meet lots of familiar characters, this time the focus is on Ivy and how she moves and with life, deals with heartache and her relationship with Alex. A warem and cosy read that deals with the ups and doens of life in a small community and how to tackle eveyone knowing your business when it is supportive and claustrophobic. A book of love and freindship on many levels.
This was the first book in the series that I read but I don't think that interfered with my ability to enjoy it. I will say that the list of characters at the beginning was a little intimidating because it made me worried that it was going to be difficult to remember everyone (if you feel that way too, don't worry it's actually very easy to slip right into the story). Alex is such a great support for Ivy through everything and their romance comes about so naturally. Ivy's father is pretty much the worst human being ever and I actually appreciated that he doesn't change in the end, although that would have been nice for Ivy it's just not realistic. I understand why Ivy reacted the way she did about Alex and her fear that he was just using her to help with his writing, but I really wanted to have a scene with them working things out rather than their friends acting as go-betweens. We don't even really get to see what they tell Ivy that makes her change her mind and seek Alex out at the end. Their moment of reconciliation is really sweet though. I would have liked just one more short chapter or an epilogue because the ending just felt a little abrupt. I'll definitely be keeping my eyes out for the next book in the series!
Y’all, I’m officially a bookstagrammer. This is the first arc I’ve received via netgalley (still waiting for my Love on the Brain approval btw @netgalley), and this was also my first Sarah Bennett novel. Love Blooms at Mermaids Point is the third book in the Mermaids Point series but I personally think it’s fine to read it as a stand-alone. The other couples feature pretty heavily in the story and so I would definitely have had more appreciation for their cameos had I read the other books but I was by no means confused about the plot or who they were to each other and the community.
This was a really lighthearted read, which seems like an odd thing to say considering we have one mc who’s dealing with the aftermath of her mother’s passing and another who is shaking off a disastrous divorce, but Bennett somehow manages to make the book charming and fun. It’s a very easy-going read and I LOVED the setting.
Considering their mountains of baggage, Alex and Ivy decide that jumping into a serious relationship probably wouldn’t be a great idea. However, they’re very attracted to each other and are just entering into a joint business venture involving the local bookstore (you heard that right, a small-town bookstore complete with imperious cat), and so they decide to start a very ill-defined, friends with benefits but less casual relationship. Basically, they’re in a serious relationship but refuse to call it that. To be honest, Alex and Ivy (particularly Ivy) can both be prize idiots about the whole thing, but they’re both well-meaning and charming enough to pull it off. Considering their backgrounds I found it understandable why they would start their relationship this way when normally this kind of trope feels a little unrealistic. A little PSA: this book is very fade to black. I enjoy all variations of spice levels so I wasn’t let down by that but I thought I’d mention it for my smut-reader’s consideration.
The ending definitely wraps up a little quickly - the big climax is brought up and then resolved within a couple of chapters, and well it felt a touch rushed, I think it fit with the feel of the story. The issues that Ivy and Alex are dealing with are big enough to move the story along and I don’t think it needed big drama throughout to be interesting, so it worked for me.
Definitely a great book to read on a snowy day, Love Blooms at Mermaids point releases March 16!
Thank you to netgalley and Boldwood Books for the arc!
This novel, number three in the Mermaids Point series, is the story of two lonely friends. Ivy Fisher has recently lost her mother after becoming her carer during her fatal illness. Her father had walked out on them years ago, and they are not in contact, so now Ivy feels like she needs to earn her living and to make new beginnings in her life as a singleton. She is very artistic, a talented seamstress, crafter and upcycler, but sadly her small cottage is not a suitable place for that sort of work. She needs more spacious premises. As usual in Mermaids Point, her friends have rallied around her and she has good support from them all.
On the day of her mother’s funeral there is a knock on her front door. When she opens it she finds Alex Nelson standing there. He tells her he would like to dedicate his day to looking after her and to being her escort at the church. Ivy always knew Alex was a lovely person and she is immediately touched and grateful. She knows his brother Tom and his family are part of the local community. She accepts his offer with grateful thanks and from the small acorn of friendship their relationship based on trust and knowing their boundaries flourishes.
Alex is at a point in his life where he too wants to make changes in his life. He plans to move from London to Mermaids Point after the trauma of breaking up with his wife Jo. He has a keen eye on the local bookshop which is for sale. The upstairs could be his home and the bookshop his workplace. Unknown to the community, Alex is a bestselling author. He is due to submit another novel to his publishing house soon and the peace of a bookshop would be bliss. That and being self-employed could be the answer to all of his needs. At last he is feeling optimistic, if only his offer for the bookshop is accepted. This is Ivy and Alex’s story.
I really enjoyed reading this uplifting novel. The storytelling was lovely, not only is it beautifully written but it’s overflowing with love, warmth, supportiveness and friendship. I loved the beautiful seaside setting as it was idyllic and restful. The storyboard was packed full of love, a fledgling romance and heartfelt emotion. I loved the characters in this story, as they were familiar from the first and second novels in this series and it was great to watch their further development. My favourite character in this book was Alex. I enjoyed Lucifer’s antics and was pleased that he eventually accepted Alex, even if he did prefer Ivy. Alex was compassionate, kind, thoughtful, loyal and giving. I loved the community spirit and the joy of heart-warming friendship, love and support.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from publisher Boldwood Books through my membership of NetGalley. Thank you for my copy sent in return for an honest and unbiased review. This novel is a good escapist read that will keep you turning the pages, wondering what will happen next. It’s a very well deserved and solid 4* review from me.
