This is the first book I've ever read by Lisa Hobman and certainly wont be my last! If all her books are this good, I can see her becoming one of my favourite authors.
We meet Star, an American girl who works at a coffee shop. she's a bit of a free spirit but that's ok because she knows who she is and she is happy.
We also meet Fin (Finlay), a Scottish guy who is a lawyer for his family firm, his life is dictated by his parents, so what happens when he finally stands up to them and goes after what he wants?
This book is an emotional rollercoaster, it makes you feel all the emotions, happiness, sadness, anger, and frustration. I really connected with both of the main characters.
I loved that there seemed to be an underlying message in the book: Believe in yourself and your dreams!
Thank you Boldwood Books and Netgalley for an early copy of this wonderful book!
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books who for the ARC copy of this book in return for my honest review.
This book was so sweet. Firstly, I picked off the cover and once I started reading it, I knew it was a good choice. It's predictable but that's not always a bad thing. I love the content and it is nice to read something that is an easy read to get you through a slump or a rough day.
3.5 stars!
I have to admit I chose this book purely on the front cover. It’s a location that’s very dear to me so I just had to read it.
I fell in love with the characters and thoroughly enjoyed my journey along with them
OMG!!! I really like this book! I fell in love with Star en Fin! And the cover WoW!
I like how much attention is given to the Fin’s point of view. Usually with these happily-ever-after type books, the focus is mostly on the female characters, and the men jut become accessories, but for me, this was definitely Fin’s story, and I like how vulnerable and human Lisa made him.
So much warmth and chemistry between this couple, no-one can deny that spark, although Fin's evil mum sure will try! This is such a heart warming and adorable read, I fell in love with the couple almost immediately. Plays on stereotypes a tad but does so in a way that challenges perceptions and surprises.
Love the creative elements of both characters too and the lack of confidence over their hobbies.
I Can’t wait for the publish date, so i can buy a copy of the real book!
I would like to say a big thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my Kindle, in return for my honest review.
First things first, I just want to say how much I love the cover of this book, it is amazing and really draws you in!!
It Started With A Kiss had beautiful, descriptive writing and really made me want to go and visit Edinburgh, it just sounded so wonderful!
The two main characters, Fin and the pink-haired Star were really well written and believable and I loved the chemistry they had between them.
This was a wonderful, opposites attract romance and I thoroughly enjoyed it…….
A brilliant rom com. Great for a bit of escapism. A little predictable at times but if you love a good romance then this is the one for you. Definitely a star crossed lovers vibe - pun intended!
A sweet and romantic read
I really loved the character of Fin,his character arc was really well written and relatable. I was often a little bit frustrated at Star, she was a little too quick to jump to conclusions and be dramatic when it was obvious a bit of understanding was required but I can understand why she was like this, it just made the story a bit convoluted for me.
I did enjoy the back drop of Edinburgh and the bar scene there.
Can opposites attract over their love of a city and music or is their story simply doomed to fail….. What a rollercoaster ride this book was!… Totally gripped from the beginning… Grab yourself a copy of this book! I absolutely loved this!
I have yet to meet a Lisa Hobman book that I didn’t automatically fall in love with.
Was it just me who thought the man on the front cover looked like Wallander-era Tom Hiddleston? That’s who I was picturing for the whole book. And who was I picturing for Star? Well, that should be obvious (hi).
I love the description of Scotland and how much it means to tho two protagonists. It has a magical quality about it that perfectly encapsulates the beautiful country, and if I could afford to move there, I would, especially if there’s a Fin waiting for me.
I like how much attention is given to the Fin’s point of view. Usually with these happily-ever-after type books, the focus is mostly on the female characters, and the men jut become accessories, but for me, this was definitely Fin’s story, and I like how vulnerable and human Lisa made him.
It’s not the most plot-heavy book I’ve ever read, and there was a few moments that I felt were just a tiny bit rushed, but it’s not a big problem. Lisa has such a gorgeous way of drawing everything out from a character and a setting and a scene; it doesn’t feel padded out or woolly, but there’s enough in there to enjoy.
It wasn’t my favourite of her book - that accolade still sits with “Starting Over at Sunset Cottage” (such a stunning book) - but it still had heaps of tenderness and happiness, love and lust, anger and sadness, and above all, pure unadulterated joy of just being yourself.
It started with a kiss and with this kiss this epic wonderful love story began. If you love a good rom com then look no further than this wonderful book. It is romantic and gorgeous and sweeping and will leave you smiling from ear to ear a pure joy.
What can I say the Campbell family are a rich and powerful powerhouse in the city. Finaly Campbell has always been the doting son and adhering to his father's ever whim even to an arrange marriage come to fault. When this falls apart he is disabened by the Campbell name and has to fight for himself.
He has frequently visited a little coffee shop in the way to work where a young lady sporting colourful hair called Star works and has noicted him before.
Finaly is shy and hurt after what happen Elise. Meeting Star has perk him out of his stopper and he has now I new job lined up for his father's rival company. Oh what could go wrong. Finaly and Star are both inviduals and I encouraged each other Star especially for Finaly singing. However wire's can get crossed when the Campbell family are involved. Can these wires be uncrossed before the damage that is done is permanent.
Awwwww I loved this.
Passionate, lovely, perfection.
Star works in a coffee shop and is a talented photographer
Fin is a lawyer who loves to sing but doesn't realise just how good he is
Their first encounter is in the coffee shop where Star works where she discovers Fin is about to get married but when he doesn't come for his coffee afterwards wonders where he has gone.
Fin was going to marry the wrong woman to please his father but she doesn't turn up at the wedding as she knows it isn't what they both want
Both are persuaded by their friends that they need a night out and they meet again in the club and start to get to know and encourage each other to follow their dreams
An easy to read story. American Star works in a coffee shop and has a secret photography hobby. Scot Fin is a lawyer with a talent for singing. Their lives cross, and initially they cannot be together - but when they finally find themselves single, will they manage to overcome their shyness and be a couple?
I found the story a fun read, and I loved the scenic descriptions and the music references. I did find myself regularly irritated by the two main characters however, who seemed unable to actually talk to each other to find out their opinions rather than just rely on hearsay or what they thought each other wanted!
Very enjoyable book with great chemistry between the main two characters. Thank you netgalley for the advance copy. Recommend for an easy read
this is the first book I have read by this author. really enjoyed the story. will be on the lookout for more books by her.

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
This was a romance about 2 people from 2 very different upbringings. To be honest, I really enjoyed some parts of the book, but felt let down a few times too. I thought there was going to be bigger drama, especially pertaining to Fin’s family and work. I also really dislike when couples get mad at each other because of something they THINK the other person does.
*all opinions are my own. Thank you netgalley and boldwood books for the ARC.
