On the slight-feeling side, this story has Ellie the elephant pack her trunks and say goodbye to the circus. Erm, no, wrong elephant. This Ellie is packing her trunks (if she cross-dresses, that is) because she wants to go to the pool, but she's like a bull in a china shop and her idea of getting to the pool is ignoring everyone, barging her way and generally running rampant. Can she learn to cool it? The clear idea of the book is that it shows the young audience the power of patience and the need to be considerate, but the feel was that this took the place of any dramatic excitement. Ideally you'd get the lesson delivered by a story you'd read for the fun as well, and this applies here, but re-reading? Nu-uh. Three and a half stars, then.
