This chapter sample has me gripped. I love Jessie Burton's writing and was a huge fan of the miniaturist and jumped straight into this. I cannot wait for the finished article.

OMG - the first enthralling chapter of the follow up to The Miniaturist which I loved. Eighteen years later we’re back in Amsterdam and Marin Brandt’s daughter is about to turn 18 and the world awaits her.
Cannot wait to find out more about her future with her aunt Nella and her potential love interest,
the young actor who she secretly meets.
Fingers crossed that I get the opportunity to read it via NetGalley.

Thanks you to Netgalley and Pan Mamillan for the advance teaser chapter!

I haven't read the Miniaturist, but that hasn't made a difference to the start to The House of Fortune that this excerpt makes.

Already evocative with tantalising details, it's not clear how dependent this book will be on the previous one, I didn't feel like I lacked any necessary knowledge this early in the story setup, but I suppose the only way I'll know is to read on.

Not a huge amount of plot revealed in the first chapter, just a bit of family dynamic and setting up Thea's age, character, and place in the world, so not much to love or hate for now, definitely interested in reading more though, so I'll give just this first small chapter the upper side of 3 stars.

I hadn't read The Miniaturist, but after reading the first chapter of its sequel, The House of Fortune, I bought it!
So now I'm immersing myself in this beautiful story, eager to read the full book of the sequel as well, since the first chapter's only fault was to be too short!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed 'The Miniaturist' by Jessie Burton but was left frustrated by some unresolved plotlines. So, this sequel is certainly welcome from me! I can only hope we will get to discover more about this strange creative figure's presence in Nella's life as we follow the story of 18 year old Thea. Thea has never been told of what really went down with her mother all those years ago... so plenty of family secrets to dredge up! and new scandals abound with the entrance of her secret love Walter. I cannot wait to read the full novel soon!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher who provided an ARC of the first chapter of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A lovely read of family, love and life.
wonderfully written and easy to read this book will captivate you from the start.
Family secrets are starting to appear and it is getting harder to keep them that way, money is tight and having to sell things to get by is also causing arguments.
Can Thea help the family and keep everything going or will she buckle under the stress........

I was so excited to see Jessie Burton has written a sequel to The Miniaturist, which I absolutely loved.
This first chapter transported me back to Amsterdam, where Thea Brandt has just turned eighteen.
I cannot wait to read her story!
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

A great first chapter that had me engaged and ready to go on a journey with Thea. I look forward to reading the rest of the book.

How wonderful to be back in Jessie Burton's Amsterdam! The reader is plunged straight into the action, 18 years to the day since the closing scenes of The Miniaturist, in the same house on Herengracht that has now - it is implied - grown shabbier and poorer. Thea Brandt is celebrating her 18th birthday with her aunt Nella, her father Otto, and the housekeeper Cornelia watching over her, and Nella is angling for an invitation to a society ball so that Thea can meet a husband. Like most 18 year olds, however, Thea longs for freedom and independence but above all, she longs for the theatre.

From the first page, I was delighted to be swept up again in the world we first discovered in The Miniaturist, and on the basis of this first chapter it will be a fitting sequel.

Interesting extract, though I’m a bit disappointed it’s only the first chapter as I couldn’t get a god feel for what the book will be like, normally extracts are the first 3 chapters so it’s started going and you can see if you’d like it or not, which I find difficult to ascertain from 1 chapter

This first chapter lived up to everything o was hoping for from the sequel to the miniaturist, I can’t wait to read the rest of the book. This is definitely one to look out for!

So excited for the novel! The Miniaturist made me a huge Burton fan and it remains my favourite of hers.

After the first line, I thought to myself ‘gosh it’s been such a long time since I read ‘The Miniaturist’, maybe I should go back and re-read it to remind myself of what’s what’. But just a few more lines into this sample chapter, I was transported back to Amsterdam so beautifully and immersed so thoroughly that all the old characters came whooshing back to me. I am happy to be here again and am looking forward to reading the rest of the book!

I only received a small version of this one to review. But it is interesting and drew me in and wanting to know more about Thea’s life and future after her 18th birthday

Eeek! I absolutely adored The Miniaturist, and so, like so many Historical Fiction lovers, I was delighted to hear that there was going to be a sequel. Needless to say, my expectations are sky-high, but based on this sample I don't think I'm going to be the tiniest bit disappointed. I cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of The House of Fortune and every other thing Jessie Burton writes.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Picador for the excerpt in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed “The Miniaturist” when I read it a few years ago, and when I heard that Jessie Burton was releasing a sequel I was intrigued. “The Miniaturist” completely enveloped me and I was in emotional turmoil reading it. Whenever a sequel is released you do have to question will it live up to the expectations the first book set? Well I don’t think I can answer that fully in this short review.

I was very pleased to receive the first chapter of “The House of Fortune,” and to be honest once I finished it I instantly wanted more. Within the space of a few pages there is already suspense, hints at secrets that need to be revealed, a past that needs to be explored, and new characters awaiting to be met. If this first chapter is anything to go by, “The House of Fortune” may indeed live up to the first book. I can not wait to get my hands on it when it is released.

What a brilliant start! This first chapter provided just enough hooks to reel me in already, I can't wait to find out more. I loved The Minaturist and really enjoyed Jessie Burton's style. Characters are already shaping up and the scene is set, bring on The House of Fortune!
