Genuinely sad that it was a first chapter sample - the sample itself was fantastic and I honestly cannot wait to read the full book. The Miniaturist has a special place in my heart as I read whilst in Amsterdam and saw all of the authors inspirations for various parts of the book. If the first chapter is anything to go by, the second instalment will be even better, Jessie Burton’s writing style just keeps getting better.

Reading this first chapter took me right back to the world of The Miniaturist and reminded me how much I loved that back so now am I not only really excited to read the rest of this magical book but as I can’t wait to be reunited with all the characters I will have the pleasure of reading The Miniaturist all over again whilst I wait for the rest of this beautifully written book to be published.

As interesting as its predecessor, I am looking forward to the full version. Marin's daughter has grown up and feels stifled in the cocoon of prtectiveness that surrounds her.

Jessie Burton has long been one of my favourite authors, with The Minaturist being one of my absolute favourites-alongside the first ever book of hers that I read.
This snippet for The House of Fortune is incredible. It’s beautifully written in Burtons typical style, and has instantly transported me into the magical world they have created. I can’t wait for it to be published!

I'm a huge fan of The Miniaturist so was more than a little excited when I heard that The House of Fortune is its sequel! This first chapter sets the scene perfectly. Taking place 18 years after The Miniaturist ended, it is narrated by Thea Brandt: her mother died giving birth to her, her aunt is our heroine Nella and ALREADY some secrets have been established.
As well as the story threads that have been laid, it's the delicious mix of us, the reader, already knowing more about the family situation than Thea that makes this all so appealing. I'm totally invested and can't wait to read this book!

I really enjoyed the miniaturist so was so excited to see that there was going to be a sequel was the icing on the cake.
This first chapter didn’t disappoint and I can’t wait to read more about Thea Brandt and her family and what’s in store for them.
On a side note - that poor cat Lucas!

My thanks to the publishers for the first chapter of Jessie Burton’s ‘The House of Fortune’, the follow up to her 2014 debut, ‘The Miniaturist’.
This sneak peak really draws you straight in. The detail, information and character building, leaves you wanting more. I can't wait for it to be released to find out how Thea's story is going to play out. Will she go to Walter?
I haven't actually read The Miniaturist. But after that short extract I will 100% be picking it up, and making sure I read it before 7th July 2022 when this is released.

Having just read the first chapter of the sequel to The Miniaturist, I’m left wanting 2 things.
The first, is to read on now. I’m hooked.
The second is to reread The Miniaturist.
I’m looking forward to both.

I really enjoyed this first chapter of the long awaited follow up to The Minaturist. Jessie Burton’s prose scintillates with wit and humour. She is the master of the slow reveal, teasing the reader with little morsels of story as delicious as the pufferts from Cornelia’s kitchen. Publication date in July cannot come soon enough for this reader!

An intriguing open which already has me hooked. On the surface, a stifled eighteen year old; underneath, a confusion of race, slavery and maternal death.
Amsterdam in the 1700s is an interesting setting and I’m hooked to see if the timings and locations jump about.

I was really excited to read this sneak peek of The House of Fortune as The Miniaturist is my favourite book. This extract definitely did not disappoint! Although the extract was short, I felt like Jessie Burton put the reader right back into the middle of the house, so that it was almost like coming back to visit relatives that you haven't seen in a while. There was lots of little nuggets of information about how things have changed since we last saw the characters in The Miniaturist, and I can't wait to get my hands on the full book when it comes out to find out more!

A joy of a first chapter. It’s made me realise I want to reread The Miniaturist before this is published to fully appreciate being back in Amsterdam. An exciting taster of what’s to come.

A brilliant opening. I do hope it continues to be so compelling. I love the interplay between what the characters know and what we know and what Thea doesn't know.
I hope this is as good as The Min.

I have to admit that when I requested this book I didn’t realise it was only a sample. Having said this I have read the first chapter and will definitely be keen to read the whole novel. I thoroughly enjoyed The Miniaturist so I’m looking forward to this sequel.

The miniaturist is one of my favourite books so as soon as I heard that Jessie Burton was writing the sequel
I couldn’t wait to read it. The first chapter sets us up nicely for where the story continues. It is Thea’s 18 birthday and wishes to find out more about her mother who died in child birth. From the start it is clear that this book is going to take on new twists and turns to keep up turning the page in Nella next instalment.

This sampler has me very intrigued! I like the characters and already have a good sense of the setting. I like Thea's attitude and look forward to seeing what lies ahead for her. I feel like something dark is lurking!

What joy! A new Jessie Burton book. This short extract already tells me I'm going to love it.
Such a strong sense of time and place, such believable characters in only a few pages. Thea wakes up discontented on her 18th birthday. Her family - aunt, father and old nurse - still treat her like a child, but she's not! (It's so unfair! Grownups never understand anything!) Nor is she disgusting and old, like them, not yet. She's a young woman and in love.
Conflict there already; but there's a deeper, probably darker, thread. Thea's mother died when she was born and no-one will talk to her about her mother. And her father's early life as a slave, where he came from, how it all happened, that's another forbidden subject.
This extract is as heady and rich as Thea's first sip of Madeira and I guzzled it down like one of the Brandt family's tiny pufferts. More, please!

I haven't read The Miniaturist but from this first chapter teaser it does not seem an essential prerequisite to enjoying this sequel. Thea Brandt wakes up on her eighteenth birthday knowing that while her family will celebrate in the familiar traditions of her childhood, she longs to be treated like an adult. As the morning unfolds there are hints of family secrets both past and present enticing the reader with tension and intrigue. I enjoyed The Muse very much and have time to catch up on the Brandts' early history before the rest of this story is revealed. I am very much looking forward to it!

I have just read the sampler and it is definitely a book I want to read the rest of.
I loved The Miniaturist.
I’m eager to find out what life brings for Thea, whether she finds out about her mother and whether she escapes her suffocating life to be with Walter.

Such a great teaser! The Miniaturist is one of my all time favourite books and I am so looking forward to reading more about these characters.
