This is a true story about a woman that finds love after a divorce. The man she falls in love with seems like a good guy in the beginning but he felt a bit strange according to his appearance. After a while he starts to asking for a loan and right after that things really take a turn.
I really felt sorry for her and it is easy to say that she should had seen some warning signs early on and be strong but it really isn't easy irl when being in love with a person that are good on manipulation.
This book follows a women Chrissy who has had everything taken from her , most of all her dignity , left alone thinking her new man was out in the world creating a beautiful future for her and her children . She could not be far from the truth .
This is a heartbreaking read how she survived and still managed ti bring such a beautiful family up .
I honestly felt the words she wrote , great book.
Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for the review copy!
“Seduced by a sociopath” by Chrissy Handy is a biography and a true life story.
The title explains exactly what this story is about. A woman being tricked and lied to. A woman not knowing which man she actually was involved with.
Financial loss is one thing. Of course that can be very hard and all, but I feel like the emotional loss is even greater. A man you trusted turns out to be someone completely different. That must be so hard to cope with. Like how do you even get over that?
This is a story on trust. It is a story about fraud.
It is easy to sit and be judgemental when reading this book. It is easy to sit and be smarter and know that Chrissy made some bad moves. But in reality it can be very difficult and maybe even impossible to see though people like this.
I really liked this book. It is true and honest. And it shows exactly how difficult life can be at times.
This was a very interesting story of Chrissy and the sociopath spell that she fell under. Reading about it and living the situation was very different and to the reader it is easy to think that they would feel differently and not fall under the spell of such a conman but reality is so different.
The fight back was described so well and as a reader I admired the tenacity that it took.
An interesting and intriguing account of life with a sociopath. It was such an honest account and although the redflags were clear to see it shows how hard they are to see or fix whilst in that situation. An intense but great read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
This book is a clear and factual description of the events in Christine Handy's life whilst having a relationship with a sociopath. From the outside it is easy to recognise red flag moments and make judgements, including her pleas of poverty and claiming benefits whilst sending her children to private school and employing a nanny because she 'cannot look after 4 children'. However once inside such a relationship it is easier to follow the path than recognise it is time to get out, and Chrissy describes this very well. I thought it odd that she started another relationship so quickly afterwards, and also wonder why his family continued to protect Alexander, but the story is credible. This could happen to anyone!
Amazing true story of a truly horrible sociopath. He has no feelings as he destroys women, purely for financial gain. I was astonished by the lengths Chrissy was forced to go through to try and stop him hurting others, and to get some justice.
Highly recommend to any woman to read and also anyone interested in, or studying, true crime.
Another brave tale from a woman taken in by a manipulative lying fraudster. I have read a few true crime books on the same subject now and some of them read so similarly that you almost know exactly what’s coming next but still it’s intriguing and educating to read them and stay aware of the red flags that we need to watch out for. Well done Chrissy for bringing him to justice, getting your life back on track and getting your story out there!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A devastating true story of love, betrayal, and deceit.
Chrissy: attractive, successful 40-year-old divorcee with three amazing children.
Alexander Marc d’Ariken de Rothschild-Hatton: international financier, wealthy, charming and smooth-talking.
It’s not long before they fall madly in love. With the promise of marriage and a new baby on the way, Chrissy knows she has been given another chance at love.
But then Alexander asks for a loan to help him get over a few cash-flow problems. And, before long, £500,000 of Chrissy’s money has vanished – along with Alexander.
After months of detective work, Chrissy finally tracks him down. But the reality of Alexander’s true identity is far darker than she ever could have imagined …
This author author manages to infuse a thoroughly evocative atmosphere into a page-turner.
A brilliantly written and courageous story. I enjoyed the story very much, while feeling so much empathy for the writer. An interesting read, whoever as expected dark and sad at times too. Five stars xxx
I recommend this book for anyone interested in these type of true stories of slippery, cunning characters, manipulation, and the danger of online dating.
This is a book that had me feeling so sorry for Christine Handy, what she was put through by a man who targeted her from the outset is truly breathtaking. This is her remarkable story as her life unravels for her and her children. It begins happily enough with her getting married to Clive, but when the marriage ends she meets Alexander and her life starts to go downhill. It is a interesting read and it gets you thinking how a man can do such horrible things to a woman who he purports to love.It is a lesson for us all i think to never trust a person who seems to be good to be true!
Thank you Chrissy for writing about your experience so openly. I too have been conned by a man I was in a relationship with 20 years ago and who I have 2 children with. He is still evading the system and your story has made me re-think about pursuing justice. Thank you
This must have taken immense courage to write. If you only read the first half of the story you might have felt frustrated with Chrissy for being gullible but the truth is no one knows how they might behave when emotions overcome common sense. However the relentless efforts she made in the second half of the story show the brave steely character she really must be.
A very touching story of a courageous lady!
And shows just how easy it is to be conned!
Happy she has a happy ending!
I really enjoyed reading Seduced by a Sociopath by Chrissy Handy, it is very well written and I highly recommend it
I really enjoyed reading this book. Books that are based on truth I find enjoyable! This book was about a divorced lady with 3 children who meets a new man. Unbeknown ro her he is out for what he can get and has so many reasons/excuses about why he needs the money. Because this lady is in love with him she loans him the money! He is full of promises to her that he is working to create a future!!!! He gets her to sell her house and zays he will invest the money for her. She loses half a million pound because of her naivety! After finding out the truth she goes on a mission to try and recover her money! Defo worth a read and u really need to find out the ending as I'm not going to tell you all!!!
Chrissy was/is a victim, that is 100% inarguable, she never asked for Mark Hatton to do what he did and con her out of all her money, no one should ever go through that or the years of fighting to get any justice that she went through
Saying that Mark Hatton, in the way the book tells it really couldn’t have come with a bigger red arrow pointing at him and the words ‘I’m fleecing you’ around his head if he tried…
Still they say love is blind and in this case it really was, family and friends as so often seems the way knew he was a ‘ne’er do well’ the minute they met him, warnings were issued but he continued to bleed Chrissy dry….got to say in her defence had the internet been as accessible then for name searches she would have found out in minutes he wasn’t a Rothschild….
Easy to sit comfortable shaking one’s head when not happening to you I guess
Where Chrissy’s story takes a turn is what she did once she found out, the years and literally blood, sweat and tears to make this man pay is nothing short of outstanding, she may have been down but anyone thinking she was out ( including Mark Hatton ) were sorely mistaken
I did like Chrissy, empathy mixed with frustration but empathy won and wish her well now in her quieter and happier life
6/10

really good book that definitely makes u think about how well u really know people around you. I will be recommending this to some of my friends as I think they will enjoy it
This memoir of the author is one that simply grips the reader from the very start all the way to the very end.
It was a story of maturing, finding love and finding there feet in life.
This I true story about the author and what she went though which I think is very brave of them for writing this book and been so open and honest about it all.
This story is beautiful told and the suspense was there.
This book is a very quick read I read the book in just 3 days which is good for me as I have dyslexia and that’s how gripping the story was it kept me wanting to keep coming back and reading it.
Chrissy keeps the readers updated and at the end of the book tells you what happened to the
Such a great biography of a book that I will definitely be recommending to people and I will be buying myself a physical copy when it comes out.
