When party animal Ariana’s grandmother passes away she is on a mission to find out why she has left her a hotel in the Cannes as it definitely hasn’t really been acknowledged as being in her family.
Whereas Gabriel and his family has been running it for over two decades and wants to take it over however he is trying to figure out why it wasn’t left to his own family.

The novel’s characters contains the elegant and the rich. No no, it is not that superficial. They are smart as well just remember.

It does come across as a bit snobby. The novel is written in a way where it goes back and forth between here and then of multiple people from both the present and the past.

Unlike most novels with multiple narratives, this one is more difficult to follow. In one paragraph you are reading about the present of Ariana. The next you are reading about Gabriel’s deceased family. There are no breaks in the writing at all to let you know instead you have to use your mind and memory to recap this every few paragraphs which is VERY annoying.

We are smart readers yes however when you have to do something like that constantly throughout then it makes for poor reading as novels should be clear and guided instead of going what some would call ‘wish-washy’.

Although it did have an interesting plot and Ariana and Gabriel’s relationship storyline has that entire love-hate thing going on which is good if you do not want too much of a captivating story of proper lust or plot lines. It did have an element of mystery with what did she exactly do ‘That Night’. Although for the over average intelligence you can tell where that story line was going. It didn’t impress me too much sadly but I do not detest it either.

Thank you to the publishers for sending me this in exchange for my honest review.

My UK readers will be familiar with Carol Kirkwood as one of the weather team on BBC Breakfast every weekday morning. She has cemented her place in the morning routine of millions of Brits. I can't leave for work until I've seen Carol do the weather forecast! Until I was sent this book to review I had no idea that she had a second career as a novelist. Her first book Under a Greek Moon was released last year and became a Sunday Times No 2 bestseller.

Ariana Theodosis has been living the high life in Hollywood trying to break into the acting business. Her wild child behaviour has been bankrolled by her wealthy shipping magnate father. On the death of her beloved grandmother she finds out that she has been left a strange bequest, the Hotel du Soleil in Cannes on the French Riviera. No-one in the family has any idea how her grandmother came to own the hotel and she goes to check it out.

In its hey day the hotel was THE place to be seen in Cannes, a mecca for the glitterati attending the film festivals and summering at the beach. Nowadays it is looking a little the worse for wear, shabby and unloved. The hotel had belonged to the Du Lac family for decades and its matriarch is a recluse still ensconced in the penthouse on the top floor. The Du Lac family has their secrets and Madame Du Lac is clinging onto them with her fingertips.

Gabriel Du Lac has carved out a very successful career for himself in the hotel business but his mother has never let him touch Hotel du Soleil. He had never understood why until the news arrives that the hotel has a new owner - and that his family had not owned it for years. This was Gabriel's childhood home and will do everything he can to stop this stranger taking it away from his family.

I know, it sounds a bit like a classic 1970's Mills and Boon story but there is so much more to the book than that. Carol is a very evocative and descriptive writer and manages to bring to life the sights and sounds of the iconic French Riviera. It almost feels like you are seated in the hotel lobby sipping an Aperol Spritz and watching the events as they happen. It is not just a romance, there is a bit of intrigue, detective work. murder and organised crime just to keep things busy! The Hotel on the Riviera is a fun read and the perfect accompaniment to your summer beach bag.

I enjoyed Carol’s first book and it is nice to meet its characters again in this new escapist sequel. This one is set is Cannes, around the film festival, and through many twists and turns we discover what happened so many years ago between the Theodosis and the Du Lac families and how the consequences still change their lives so deeply around the Hotel du Soleil, the true central character of the book. It is Cannes and its glitzy life during the festival, the rich and famous, the beautiful settings, the atmosphere of the Côte d’Azur and even a short trip to the Greek island of Ithos. Problems always seem to solve themselves and there is a lot of energy and positivity in the characters. A very pleasant and relaxing summer read,

When Ariana returns to Greece having lost her way in Los Angeles it is time to find some direction in her life. An opportunity takes her to Cannes and all its glamour. Feisty characters in a beautiful setting with an intriguing storyline. What more could you ask for.

The Hotel on the Riviera is another enjoyable book from the very likeable Carol Kirkwood. It is based in a beautiful setting with interesting well written characters and exactly what I would expect from this type of book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.

A thoroughly enjoyable second book from Carol Kirkwood, beautifully written, set in the lovely setting of the French Riviera with easy to get to know characters.
Again, as in her first book, my only criticism would be that it is not necessary to 'name drop' stars names or designer brands into the tale, it would be just as readable with fictional names. This is just a personal criticism & would not deter me from reading a third from this author

Having read and enjoyed Carol's debut book, I hoped this would be as good. It is even better. Wonderful setting on the French Riviera, great characters and an intriguing story line.

The Hotel on the Riviera is the second novel by Carol Kirkwood, and whilst it does feature some of the characters from her first novel, Under a Greek Moon, there is no need to have read that book first. Leap on in right here.

Glamourous Greek heiress, Ariana Theodosis, inherits the faded Hotel du Soleil as part of a mysterious legacy upon the death of her grandmother and sees it as a chance to step out of the shadow of her successful father. However, the hotel has been owned for decades by the family of Gabriel du Lac who sees it equally strongly as his inheritance. And so the fireworks begin…

Like its predecessor, The Hotel on the Riviera is great fun to read, with well-rounded characters and great chemistry between Ariana and Gabriel? Is it perhaps a tad predictable? Yep, but who cares?

The perfect escapist summer holiday read.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers, HarperCollins, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I had previously read Carol Kirkwood's first book, so I knew that I would be in for a good read. Thoroughly enjoyed al the descriptions of the places mentioned such as Cannes and the Greek Islands and could imagine them in my head. Nice to see a few characters from the previous book mentioned from the Greek Taverna. So thanks NetGalley for the chance to read and review this excellent book.

The Hotel on the Riviera is Carol Kirkwood's second novel. While some of the characters appear in Under a Greek Moon it isn't really a sequel so can totally be read as a standalone.

I found this to be a perfect and light summer read. It's full of the glitz and glamour of Cannes during the film festival. A little family mystery and plenty of romance. Some of the twists maybe a little predictable but still very enjoyable.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy to read and review.

My eyes are still twinkling with happiness hours after finishing this second novel by Carol Kirkwood. It’s a joyous uplifting read and perfect for the summer. The Hotel on the Riviera follows on with the Ithos characters we met in Under A Greek Moon. This time it’s Ariana’s turn in the spotlight. Following the death of her grandmother she discovers she has inherited a rundown hotel, a far cry from its former days as the ritzy glitzy Hotel du Soleil in Cannes on the French Mediterranean. When she flies in to stake her claim she is met by the hostile Gabriel, whose family has run the hotel for decades. So does she inherit and what happens to Gabriel’s tragedy stricken mother and frosty sister? Such a page turner and one I raced through over a weekend. I loved getting to know the sub characters characters : Elizabeth and Robert, Estee and Stefan and adored the setting too. Carol’s writing is warm, richly observed and she creates generous characters. Highly recommend!

A lovely book full of mystery, romance, drama and glamour all set in the most beautiful parts of the world!

Ariana's grandmother passes away and leaves her a hotel in Cannes in her will - no one in Ariana's family has any idea about the hotel, or how it came into her grandmother's possession. Can she solve the mystery?

Gabriel and his family have run the hotel for more than 20 years. When he discovers that there is a mysterious new owner, he desperately needs to know why. Will his mother reveal long buried family secrets?

The book is filled with lots of "beautiful" people, which I suppose you expect from the setting, and the timing around the film festival. The villains of the piece are more rough around the edges, with obvious flaws, and there is a lot of name dropping, which can get a bit irritating!

A perfectly readable, summery romance story - predictable yes, but it suited me for a few hours in the sunshine!

A great summer read which immediately transported me to the glitz and glam of the French riviera. Lots of twists and turns and nicely tied up in the end.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

A typical he loves me he loves me not story, too much name dropping and luxury item references made the story too predictable and obvious. Not for me I’m afraid.
