Review of The Hotel on the Riviera by Carol Kirkwood

I was very excited to get a copy of this new book to read, after thoroughly enjoying the authors last book. The story itself is very well written, full of passion, mystery and well buried secrets. A very good book with a really decent meaningful story to boot. Great characters set in a stunning locations. Perfect for your summer read. Recommended.

Another good story from Catol Kirkwood. A delightful one that weaves together the lives of 2 families that in the past had history. The younger generation were unaware of this until the death of Ariana's grandmother.
The story is set at a hotel in Cannes and the setting and characters are described very well. I enjoyed this book and once started I couldn't put it down. I look forward to reading Carol's next book.

Carol Kirkwood has a real knack with her writing to draw you into the story. I really enjoyed how this book went with the different mini stories relating to the wider plot

I loved it. The pages kept turning themselves late into the night! Such great weaving of the different strands and families as the tension mounted and the menace that bubbled away for most of the book came to a head. A lovely romance between Gabriel and Ariana as well as a tussle over a hotel, a box of drugs in a wardrobe and the ever amazing Cannes award ceremony.

Ariana Theodosis inherits a run down hotel on the Riviera. It was once a famous hotel and she hopes to bring it back to its former glory.
Gabriel du Lac’s family have owned the hotel for generations and he is not going to go quietly. However, his mother, who still lives in an apartment in the hotel, has a story to tell .
An easy, summer read.

A pleasant light read taking place mainly in Cannes but with glimpses of Greece and Hollywood. A wealth of different characters from the seedy to the glamorous film stars with many in between.
I enjoyed this book

Well what can I say except WOW! Carol Kirkwood is back and with a truly stunning second Novel. I adored Under a Greek Moon but dare I say I adored The Hotel on the Riviera even more. We still have the glitz and glamour, the beautiful people with huge amounts of money but this time we get even more drama. Ariana is wonderfully feisty. She has done the usual circuit of Hollywood glamour but now she has found something that may well be THE thing she’s been craving for so long. A grounding, a place to learn to be herself and not just be “Daddy’s little rich girl” Will she achieve her dream? Can she run away from her past? Is Gabriel trustworthy or just a snake in the grass? All questions that will be answered when you dive into your copy. Trust me it is so worth it.

The drama that follows Ariana draws you right into her life. Sometimes I found myself telling her off! “Please don’t do that again Ariana” every time she repeated a silly mistake, no I’m not saying what, that would spoil the fun.

I believe Carol Kirkwood’s writing style has just blossomed, her characterisations are expertly developed and feel authentic. The situations they find themselves in, the passion, the doubt, the regret, everything was created just perfectly. I LOVED IT. Need I say more? Nope I don’t believe I do except that this is a book that deserves to be read and shared and enjoyed by many readers for years to come. Compelling, beautiful and superbly written.

PS, it’s 5 stars (plus) because, for me 5 stars just wasn’t quite enough.

Ariana discovers she's been left a hotel in Cannes. She goes there and discovers it's very rundown and the occupants believe the hotel to be theirs. Ariana decides that she's going to renovate the hotel and fight for the hotel. The descriptions of Cannes and the surrounding area bring it to life.
I loved Under The Greek Sun as well

I really enjoyed BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood’s debut novel last year, so I was excited to read this second offering via a free review copy from netgalley.

This novel follows the grown up daughter of the main character from Carol’s first novel. This time around, the setting is France not Greece, as Ariana unexpectedly inherits a hotel in the French Riviera and decides to abandon her party lifestyle to try to make a go of this new business venture. Unfortunately she faces resistance from the family who previously owned the hotel, particularly the handsome but infuriating son Gabriel.

If I’m being honest, this novel was just so so for me. It lacked some of the sparkle of Carol’s debut. This one didn’t grip me - I was actually a bit bored in places. All in all, a pleasant enough read which can be read as a stand alone despite the occasional reference to characters from the first novel, but nothing special. I did finish this, but I felt a bit let down by this offering after enjoying Carol’s debut so much and now wouldn’t rush to pick up another of her novels. A generous 3 stars.

A good summer beach read. If you're looking for a light read without too much depth then this is an ideal book. I enjoyed her debut Under A Greek Moon, although found the constant designer name dropping a little unnecessary. Sadly The Hotel on the Riviera follows this pattern, and, of course, everyone is good looking - except the villain! The plot felt a little thin and sometimes predictable - I knew straight away who Jonny's father must be - but everything tied in well at the end..

Many thanks to Harper Collins, Carol Kirkwood, Netgalley for an ARC of The Hotel on the Riviera in exchange for an honest review.

Having enjoyed Carol’s first book I looked forward to reading The Hotel on the Riviera. It’s an interesting read with lots of famous names dropped into the story. Ariana is far from the spoilt little rich girl and I enjoyed watching her steely determination unfold.

When her beloved grandmother dies and leaves her a hotel in the South of France the mystery of how her grandmother came to own the hotel ripples through the book. The film festival with the rich and famous is beautifully descriptive and the main characters are likeable - well I can think of a couple of exceptions. There are drugs, attempted murder, mystery and romance wrapped up in a delightful summer read.

A really good read from Carol Kirkwood .When Ariana inherits a hotel on the French Riviera after the death of her beloved grandmother she heads off to see it for herself. After her lifestyle of partying hard that comes with her entitled upbringing her family think she should get a manager in but Ariana has other ideas and when she meets the charismatic Gabriel who thinks the hotel belongs to his family they immediately clash and things get really interesting. A great story line with some very interesting characters and some secrets will come to light which makes this a real page Turner. A 5 ⭐read

As this is Carol’s only 2nd book it’s amazing. Well thought out, researched and put together I love each character and the way that they come together. It’s a book you can’t put down. Ariana, Gabriel and the Du Lac family intermingle with good old fashioned romance and mystery. Easy to read and follow and small enough chapters to fit in around daily life.
Thanks Carol and your publisher Harper Collins. Thanks also to NetGalley.
