Really helpful! This is useful both for beginners and established reviewers and I'll definitely be reviewing it every six months or so to keep me on track and to make sure I'm making the best of my NetGalley reviews.
Very helpful in getting started on Net Galley. Would recommend to people starting a bookstagram or book blog. Or to brush up on your reviewing skills.
Even though I have been on bookstagram and actively reviewing for a while now, I thought this toolkit was very informative and interesting. I think this is absolutely brilliant for people who are just starting out.
This toolkit contains relevant information for any new or experienced NetGalley member. This guide provides valuable information on how to request books for review, how to increase the likelihood of being accepted for ARCs, and how to write reviews. In addition, the guide provides tips on various social media platforms. As someone who has spent the last year following various bookstagram and booktok accounts, a lot of the tips provided here are exhibited by popular creators. But it's the collection of all the information that makes this so valuable. I see myself referencing this guide often in the future. Overall, every NetGalley member should consider this toolkit a valuable resource.
This provided good information that helped me plan my posts. It was succinctly written and easy to understand. This should be required reading for all new bookstagrammers or booktokers.
Excellent overview for navigating Netgalley. Provides a great insight into all the stages required to be an effective reviewer. Definitely one that I will return to time and time again
Thank you to the publisher, We Are Bookish, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of NetGalley’s Book Advocate Toolkit in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
The Gist
This is going to be a quick little review. I can’t remember how I stumbled upon this guide book, but I’m glad I did.
I have been requesting and reviewing book titles on NetGalley for almost ten years now and thought I had it pretty much figured out. However, it is always good to brush up on one’s skills, especially if any new or recent changes have been made to the platform.
These changes aren’t big or complicated to adapt to, but still. It’s good to get a few pointers straight from the source.
The Details
This guide really does a good job helping beginners getting started. There are lots of diagrams and little checklists to help keep things organized and from becoming overwhelming.
At first I was a little confused why I couldn’t download this file onto my Kindle like most titles I receive from NetGalley. But there is a reason for that: every major section in the guide has extra links that directs the reader to the We Are Bookish website with more detailed information and instructions on the topic discussed in the guidebook.
The guidebook also discusses all major social media channels, such as Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, and how each has a slightly different way to approach them and use to their full benefit with regards to publishing book reviews.
The Verdict
Overall, there are a few new tidbits of information in this guidebook that I will definitely start using. It is easy to read and understand.
I appreciate NetGalley putting this together and I would recommend it to anyone who would like to get started writing and publishing book reviews.
This is so helpful. I wasn't aware of how it works here but this kit made it so easy for me. After completing this i checked We are Bookish and oh my god, i was glad there were such amazing tips and recommendations for better blogging and reviewing. I will keep looking up for your tips and tricks to keep doing better.
Extremely helpful tips and tricks that I will utilize to work my way through my ever-growing TBR review book pile.
Great Info - thank you for providing this for us creators! From booktok, to booktube there is plenty of great information to get creators aligned with publishers’ missions.
This toolkit is much appreciated! It clearly and concisely summarizes the expectations for the reviewer, along with providing tips to get the most out of this experience. I appreciate having one resource I can go to if I have a question. Thanks for sharing!
This provides helpful information to reviewers about how to properly interact with ARCs, as well as information to become book bloggers, bookstagrammers, etc.
I found this little toolkit to be very helpful, with hints, and do's and don'ts. Will be referring back to this as I start to post reviews. The colours were happy and bright, which made following along easy.
It's a great support for those starting a bookstan account. It offers instructions for all social media. What to do and do not do.
It has a lost os suggestions.
Personally, I was already expecting that content as it is what I see other accounts doing but it's a great help for a beginner
Helpful for beginners and also has contemporary updates for platforms and hashtags. I hope more updates are.rolled out in revisions as things constantly change. Excellent notes for how to make posts accessible with captions and alt text.
I've been "too busy" for my instagram account of late and in a bit of a creative output slump - I can't quite make photos and canva be what I *want*. So this was a great wee booklet to get back to basics and to reference in the coming weeks when I get back on track. I did feel it was sometimes a bit too basic in terms of explanations for some terms but I recognise other readers may not be as tech literate as myself.
This was actually very useful. The toolkit doesn’t just cover NetGalley, but it also gives tips for creating bookstagram, booktok, and booktube content/accounts as well as other tips for Goodreads and Twitter.
I very much appreciated the part about "making a sandwich" when struggling with reviewer's block.
I’m sure this was created with newbies in mind, but even the more experienced reviewer can learn a few things from this toolkit.
Quick and easy yet so helpful, this guide gives you the basics on how to become a better reviewer.
This booklet gives out a variety of tips on interacting with Netgalley and social media platforms (such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok etc). You will find links to tutorials and information that you might find useful.
Lots of great tips! I learned a lot from this and got some great new ideas for my blog and for using different platforms.
NetGalley’s Book Advocate Toolkit is very helpful for someone who is hoping to start writing their own book reviews - or even if they’re hoping to kick their reviews up a notch!
One of my goals for this year was to shift the way in which I engage with books - to transition from solely consuming to also thinking more critically about why I enjoy reading what I read. Over the last few years, I have also come to share tailored book recommendations for friends. With more time and capacity since finishing residency, I’m excited to share my thoughts and recommendations with even more people!
Implementing this is, unsurprisingly, more difficult. The clear steps outlined in this toolkit and the resources it provides have given me more confidence as I start to share analyses and opinions with my GoodReads and #bookstagram worlds. Overall, it’s an excellent reference that I enjoy coming back to time and time again.
