This one is truly a blessing!!!
Things just got easier and super helpful for someone who just joined this platform!!
This was easy to follow and provided some great ideas and helpful tips. I think it would be especially helpful to those who are just getting started in book reviews. Thank you so much for creating this guide.
Useful guidance on advocating books through NetGalley. Helpful tips for documenting reviews and blogs.
Great book of fantastic tips and tools. I enjoyed learning how to post better reviews with this fabulous title.
This is quite a helpful toolkit put out by NetGalley on requesting and reviewing books. Lots of good ideas. Thanks so much for putting this together!
Where has NetGalley's Book Advocate Toolkit been my whole life?
Whether you're someone just starting out with writing book reviews, or someone who's been on the scene for a while and wants a refresher, you need this toolkit!
Firstly, I love the pastel layout, and the way that content has been divided between the various platforms (e.g. Instagram, Twitter, TikTok) so that a reader can go back and find the relevant advice and tips specific to them and the platform/s they use.
The step by step sections are a dream for someone like me who loves lists, especially the parts where they're displayed like a checklist. Being organised makes for a clear mind, I find!
Something I also love is that the vocabulary is simple to follow, and examples and explanations are always given for all pieces of advice!
Lastly, the inclusion of do's and don'ts in terms of making your book blogging accessible to any and everyone is so vital and I'm so glad it was included.
Everyone needs to read NetGalley's Book Advocate Toolkit at least once!
This book does a great job of helping people review things not only on NetGalley, but the major social media outlets. I have been blogging and reviewing things for years at this point, but there is always room for growth and there are good tips. Thinking about how to get your opinion across in a succinct way is key; each social media outlet is also different and that has to be taken into account.
Definitely start here before doing any reviewing!
I wish I'd had this guide about six months ago when I decided to dive into seriously reviewing books. It would have saved a few headaches. Having skimmed and then read it through several times now, I am glad to have this guideline. I don't know that I'll ever venture into all the currently suggested platforms but it's nice to have a basic guide should I ever do so. The publisher notes that this is a living document, one that will evolve and change with the times, so I expect to delve into it periodically. That is a major plus. Hopefully they'll take some of the current questions buzzing around various related media pages. The fact it's easy to read is another. My hunch is even those who simply review the occasional book for fun and have never heard of NetGalley might find it useful. Now, if it could just teach me to be less long-winded.
Thanks #NetGalley and #WeAreBookish for this lovely guide.
This was so interesting & informative yet fun to read. I wish I had read this before I had written my first four reviews I feel as though I've done a disservice to the authors & publishers now because I have so much more knowledge on how to write a proper review I hope I will continue to improve in the future as I am a work in progress and learning as I go.
Thank you @Bookish for the amazing information and ways to improve.
Very helpful! I'm glad I saw this on my Read Now page. I've downloaded it on both my phone and kindle so I can have it with me whenever I need it. I will continue to reference it in the future. Thank you for this title, NetGalley. Free and informative, my two favorite things.
Thank you for this great resource! It will definitely be put to good use as I promote great reads. The more we, as reviewers, spread the word for preferred reads, the more we can attract to the pleasures of reading.
Super helpful guide to how to make the most of NetGalley. Excited to put these tips into practice with my reviews and really appreciate the insight at the start of this journey. I also love that there's tips for creating bookish social media and growing a community there!
The book advocate toolkit is extremely helpful -- Here is what worked well:
1) Easy to read - appealing visually
2) Like reminder to sign up for weekly checklist
3) The book review tips are really helpful (and thanks for the reminder to thank Netgalley and the publisher!)
4) Liked having links to fuller articles from the toolkit
What did not work as well for me --
1) The latter part -- I am not a big social media user and got very overwhelmed with all of the options -- I tend to use Goodreads, Amazon and Barnes and Noble for my reviews. I always check to see what reviews exist on Amazon and Barnes and Noble and post where ever there aren't any or many reviews -- I have been really surprised to see that after a book has been published (even weeks later) when I go to these sites and there aren't any reviews -- so if I liked the book (4 or 5 stars) I make sure to post my review.
2) Maybe there is a separate toolkit that can do deeper dive into all those platforms -- or pros and cons of each since I am a real novice!
3) A couple of additional tips to consider adding -- say more about "spree" -- it is mentioned a few times -- and I think it is really important -- I have to remind myself that I am not in a bookstore shopping so need to be continuously aware that in the end when I am done reading the book, I will need to spend time giving a thoughtful review. Sometimes I have even decided to just buy the book or check it out of the library instead particularly when I was not sure if I would like it or not so did not want to have to review it.
4) Another piece of advice is check the publication date for your requests -- that will either encourage me or discourage me from requesting a book depending on my shelf.
Thanks so much for providing this tool NetGalley -- very helpful!
This was a very helpful starter guide! It's a super general overview, but covered a lot of the basics (and I say this as a person who wrote her PhD dissertation on how to start a BookTube channel!). Thank you for creating this!
Well laid out, with a lot of great tips. I've been using NetGalley for a couple of years and I found some great nuggets of info. So this is helpful to new users and experienced ones.
A useful overview for newbies to NetGalley as to how to reviewing books on social media - it covers all of the main social media platforms and will be a useful tool to dip in & out of in the future.but there isn't really anything new here
Very useful for beginners in book social media. The guide is full of tips for the different platforms and how to grow your audience. I'm already applying some of them and taking notes for the future.
this was very helpful thanks for sharing this with us! i will be able to use it in the future
thanks netgalleya
A great guide for people new to NetGalley or people like me who may have been using NetGalley for a while, but want to up their book advocacy game.
I will be using this book to help me with my social media presence to support books I love.
