This had a lot of great advice and I will definitely use this as a resource. I think this is a great guide for any user but especially beginners to the site. I wish I would have this as a tool all together when I first joined.
I personally have been doing this for about 6 months and even though I felt confident in how I publish reviews, this wonderful toolkit helped me tune & refine what I already do which I loved! It doesn't matter if you're new at this, an intermediate user or advanced, anyone & everyone can take something away from this.
And I will now try my best not to do a request spree 😂
Very very helpful booklet of what to post, how to post, where to post….tips and suggestions for reviews and all around general advice. Which I had found it when I started doing reviews.
This is an excellent toolkit not just for new reviewers but also a good refresher for people who have been posting reviews/requesting ARCs for some time. Easy to follow and very useful. Thanks.
NetGalley's Book Advocate Toolkit
by We Are Bookish
Synopsis: This is an informational packet that details tips and tricks for writing book reviews as well as creating and maintaining reviewing platforms. This Toolkit also goes into different applications one can use and content planning.
Review: Overall, I found this very informational. As someone who is fairly new to the Bookstagram community and is opening up to creating YouTube videos as well, this Toolkit was incredibly informational and is needed in the bookish community for those who are new to these types of topics. The graphics within added visual interest and the Toolkit was very well organized. This is definitely something I can see myself going back to and referencing in the future.
Thanks for the help NetGalley, this is a great reference for reviews and I’ll be looking back on it as needed
This book had some good tips! I did not even consider the accessibility of my posts and will make sure not to use font generators in the future. This was a great guide for someone just starting out.

I began my journey as a book reviewer in 2019. My experiences with Net Galley since joining in Summer, 2020 have been all positive. I've received so many wonderful advance reader's copies of books and audiobooks, with the opportunity to share my reviews. So, as a book advocate myself, I'm thrilled to review this toolkit. The resource offers guidance and increased knowledge in aspects of navigating Net Galley, writing reviews, and sharing reading experiences with the public.
We Are Bookish first welcomes us warmly as book advocates. Four categories are: Netgalley Tips, Book Reviews, Bookish Social Media, and Strategizing. As a retired educator, I appreciate how well-organized and comprehensive the kit is. Formatted in a way that makes learning fun, the content includes visuals, colors, information, and links. I learned so much about improving my reviews, sharing my content, and building my platforms. Tips for staying organized are very helpful, to allow for keeping up with reading, reviewing, and staying within the guidelines established by Net Galley.
In the final "What's Next" section, other resources from We Are Bookish are provided, with links to social media, a newsletter, and a website. All of these areas will be updated so that Net Galley users can stay up to date and current with the most recent information.
With two years of book reviewing under my belt, I am grateful for this kit and what it taught me. I highly recommend it to both beginning and experienced book advocates, so that we can all deliver the best possible information about books, authors, and publishers that we appreciate. My purposes in being a book advocate are promoting literacy, supporting authors and publishers, and sharing my joy of reading for both learning and fun. I'm grateful to Net Galley and We Are Bookish for the opportunities given to meet my goals.
Thank you to Net Galley and We Are Bookish for the advance reader's copy and the opportunity to provide my unbiased review.
Oh how I wish this was around when I started my NetGalley journey back in 2016. I'm 6 years in, and have made many mistakes along the way (ahem - requesting sprees). Now, I am focusing on correcting those mistakes, and really upping my NG game. This was a great refresher read for me, and is amazing for beginners!
A helpful guide to getting started. Suggestions and tips and tricks galore! I'm motivated to get started. This is going to be a fun journey.
This Toolkit was perfect for me at this point in my NetGalley journey. I found most helpful the tips for setting up my Profile and I feel my Profile is more on point now that I have utilized the info. I now understand Feedback Ratios and have set up my weekly NetGalley email. Details such as setting up Favorites for Publishers and being able to access Publisher Approval Preferences has helped me feel more knowledgeable and sure of myself as I get ready to submit my very first Request for an ARC (the other ARC I reviewed on NetGalley was a 'Read Now'!). I am not ready for my own blog just yet but have my NetGalley tool kit easily accessible to refer to as I continue reading and reviewing through NetGalley. As an avid reader for many years, I am so excited for this opportunity to access ARCs and be able to provide my insights on them.
This was very helpful and informative! It taught me a lot of things about NetGalley and how to use it! Would definitely recommend to everyone just starting out on NetGalley!
This is an excellent resource for novice and advanced reviewers alike to help ensure that your review game is on point. Thank you for such a useful tool to help with my endeavor to be a successful book reviewer.
I've just skimmed through this and it's a really great summary of how to be a book person online. It's great for a beginner but as someone who's been hanging around for about four years there was nothing new. That said, I wish it existed when I started out!
This is super helpful. I wish it was around when I first started on Netgalley but I'm glad to have it now! I'll be using it as reference to revamp my profile and I think new users will find it very useful. Thanks Netgalley!
A fantastic resource for anybody interested in getting started with NetGalley. These pages are jam-packed with ideas for using NetGalley to your advantage, from how to create a great profile to how to maintain a high Feedback Ratio. Very helpful when you have doubts about book reviewing or requesting titles or you just need a little reminder of tips and tricks.
A great and useful guide to making the most out of using netgalley. I wish I had read this before I joined. I will definitely be following these tips. Thank you
NetGalley's Book Advocate Toolkit is a concise, accessible, and well written guide aimed at readers who want to improve their reviewing process and grow their online presence. Released on NetGalley 8th March 2022 by NG's sister site We Are Bookish, it's 31 pages and is available at no cost in ebook format. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.
This is a surprisingly effective and information dense tutorial guide to writing good reviews, improving critical reading for review, and with choosing platform(s) and creating and growing an online profile. All the necessary information is provided in high contrast graphics in small and easily utilizable bullet points. Relevant online resources are hyperlinked directly in the text, for convenient access.
I liked that the booklet gives a good general overview and shows how the different aspects: platform, retail sites, netgalley, access to review ARCs relate to one another and how they are related synergistically. The chapters are arranged sequentially: NetGalley tips, book reviews, bookish social media, strategizing, and relevant links and resources.
This is precisely what it claims to be: a useful set of tips and advice for writing effective reviews and getting those reviews into the hands of readers who are looking for book tips. This would be a great asset for beginners and more advanced reviewers who want to increase efficiency. I recommend it for all NG users especially since it contains a comprehensive and handy list of hyperlinks in one place. I especially liked their wise words about accessibility. Not all reviewers use all platforms for review. There are very different considerations for advocates who mostly review on video platforms and a lot of the Do/Don't advice given was for things I hadn't ever even considered.
Five stars. Not currently available through goodreads or Amazon as far as I can see, but available gratis via the NetGalley link above.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
Helpful if you are a new user!
As a newbie bookstagrammer, this site was suggested by a few people I follow. I thought I would give it a go and found the guide helpful in what there is to look out for and how to use he features
A very insightful and informative guide to starting your NetGalley journey. It was very useful and will come in handy to look back on whenever I have questions about book reviewing or requesting.
