Helpful, clear and concise guidance to get started with both NetGalley and writing useful reviews. It provides hints and tips for making best use of social media and developing a portfolio as a reviewer as well as links to more advice. Who'd have thought there's even a Bookstagram. Everything that you need to get started is here..
I really appreciated this short read by 'We Are Bookish'. It gives clear instructions on how to choose what category of reviewer you are. It gives an insight on how to construct reviews on NetGalley and how to share them on other platforms. Hints on writing your personal profile. The booklet also explains what to do if for any reason you cannot review a book that you have downloaded. This booklet is a must read for anyone who wants to become a book reviewer with NetGalley. Thank you NetGalley for sending me this booklet to read.
A succinct and useful review of how to be a successful reviewer across platforms. I will be revisiting this occasionally if needed for further information.
Informative and insightful manual! It's really helpful for new members learning the ins and outs of NetGalley. Thanks again!
The most helpful parts of the toolkit in my opinion were the explanations of feedback ratio and a few tips for members. There were also a few tips on writing a book review.
A significant portion of the ebook focuses on social media, outlining the various platforms where bookish spaces exist and detailing advice for getting started on a book blog, bookstagram, booktube, or booktok.
I would have preferred more of the ins and outs of NetGalley since I am already familiar with bookish social media spaces, but I can see how this could be helpful to others.
Overall super helpful! I really liked the pictures, I found the colors soothing and the way it was structured was aesthetically pleasing as well as easy to follow. The tips were short, to the point and extremely helpful. The additional links gave me more ways to better my review style. Definitely recommend to anyone that needs some inspiration for their own personal blogs/social media as well as for netgalley reviews.
the book guide is giving us good advices, tips, and tools for using Netgalley! thanks a lot, it helps me understanding in using Netgalley more efficiently..
Best book I've read so far! Honestly, nice to have something to not only get some info about the do's and don'ts but also you get to write a "test" review and get familiar with the format.
I am glad that I read this toolkit from We Are Bookish. It gives realistic advice on how to increase one's footprint on NetGalley. It doesn't go long so it is highly readable. It is honest about the work and investment that is involved and that is something that I can appreciate. It gave me a much better idea on what goes on behind the scenes.
I am appreciate that this booklet was available to read from NetGalley in exchange for honest feedback.
Really good tips and tools for using NetGalley and writing good reviews. Thank you for the opportunity to read the book!
Netgalley's Book Advocate Toolkit covers a lot of information for a variety of different things. You have information more specific to the website, more general advice for blogging, and more specific advice for different social media based accounts.
While a lot of it was information, the information being stretched to cover all platforms makes it more beginner friendly, which is definitely a plus for beginners, but loses its shine for me when the things I was most concerned with weren't necessarily covered. As someone currently more interested in advice on blogging over social media advice, a lot of the information was just too generic and limited. This totally makes sense since blogging can cover so much and it would be difficult to provide advice for such a large field. I just wish it could have provided more advice in this area.
I do like how everything was organized, especially with the cute styling that was selected and made everything pop a lot more.
I'm still fairly new to Netgalley so I would say that the website's more specific advice was the most helpful and it reminded me of the "Read Now" category which I totally forgot about existing.
I think having a little bit more information on Netgalley's specific review standards would be a great idea though. As someone who likes to have a section where I provide spoilers, whether that be a major or minor description, I had nearly finished writing a review, only to go check out the review standards and discover that the way that I write would need to lose the spoilers (which I totally understand but it becomes hard to critique the book when the way events are handled or not handled in a book is what I'm critiquing and it becomes hard to describe things). I think having examples of how to avoid spoilers while critiquing the things surrounding the spoiler could even help combat that. I almost wish we could have a section in the review system where we can discuss spoilers but keep them covered so that reviewers can decide if they are comfortable with a spoiler being mentioned or hinted at. Having more information on the netgalley review standards would have definitely saved time for people new to the app and made this toolkit even more beneficial for reviewers.
The advice that was more specific to the social media apps was fun to dive through as you could easily find the app you were on and get so many details there or breeze through them all and learn so much about so many other apps. I also really liked the information given about requesting and how things work since I love knowing the explanation behind everything.
Overall, I'd give this toolkit 4 stars. It is an incredibly useful read, but there are just some missed information and heavier generalized information that I think could help the toolkit be more helpful to readers and reviewers.
Lots of advice to be found in this ‘book’.
So helpful, I will be working on my profile and fine tuning my reviews from now on!
I absolutely loved it! This guide will help you with a lot of things. If you are a librarian, a blogger, or anyone who advocate for books, this is the toolkit for you! As a therapist, it gave me many ideas on how to continue advocating for books. I will recommend it literally to everyone.
This was soooo helpful! Not just for Netgalley, but for other platforms! The links within the document not only made it easy to navigate but also will make it a great resource to quickly look up information.
Super helpful! Great for anyone who needs tips on jumpstarting their reviews or book reviewing blog!
a useful starter guide for multiple bookish platforms! i liked that it included general tips as well as specific tips for different platforms like instagram, youtube, tiktok, etc. well laid-out and easy to read.
NetGalley's Book Advocate Toolkit is a wonderful and helpful toolkit for reviewers containing a wealth of information! The text was simplistic, easy to read and understand, various links and suggestions, and a great way to obtain best practices! I found this book to be very helpful with tips, suggestions, and links to various references! It was a great read for newer reviewers and had great tips for those more tenured reviewers.
Thank you to NetGalley and We Are Bookish for providing me the opportunity to review "NetGalley's Book Advocate Toolkit”. I am appreciative and leave my review voluntarily.
This was helpful and informative, I will continue to use it as a reference to further my knowledge of the platform.
This toolkit was colorful and eye-catching. It wasn't so colorful that it became distracting or induced headaches. The colors were very neutral which I appreciate. There are links throughout directing you to where to find more information. Overall, the toolkit was very informative and helped me to understand not only how to get started on NetGalley but also showed me more options to review books than just submitting to Amazon. It also reminded me that, while I have not used it as of yet, I have a viable site to review books in the form of my Goodreads account. It gently showed me how to start and continue on NetGalley. I feel that all newbies should definitely take the time to read this. I also feel that this is a good refresher for those who already belong to the NetGalley community. I even feel like it can help people who belong to other communities of reviewers in some ways, such as showing several options for mire ways and places to review. I do not feel like anyone who is a reviewer or wishes to become one would be remiss in reading this. I don't recommend this for anyone not wishing to be part of the reviewer community.
It was very informative, I learned a lot about the application and how having a good profile here helps us to get more books to review.
